Chapter Ten//Sorry Date

It's currently Saturday. 5 whole days of having a boyfriend. It's been really great.

Having someone to speak to about how you feel, your day, and basically things that interest you. Knowing that someone other than your family is genuinely interested in your existence is a surreal feeling.

After Tyler asked me out on Monday, and I agreed, I freaked out and skipped school. I was kinda mad at myself for breaking the promise I made to myself, which was, "No boys till I've achieved at least 60% of my goals."

I had definitely not even achieved 30%, and I already dropped my guard and let myself add a boy to the already imbalanced equation I call my life.

However,  after texting me all Monday when I bailed and receiving no response from me. Tyler came to my house on Tuesday morning.

Apart from awkwardly having to explain to my parents why a boy was standing at our front door early in the morning. I was relieved and glad to see him. It was like a go-ahead from the universe.

We talked, and I told him I was sorry for just leaving and not texting. I told him I wasn't sure I was ready for a relationship yesterday, but I was sure now, and I was ready. I told him I had schedules I liked to follow to the letter, and it would be hard for me to deviate from it even for him, but that I'd always make time for him.

He said he understood and that he didn't mind going along with whatever I wanted as long as I made time for us. I felt comforted by that, and that was the beginning of our relationship.

I know it'd only been 5 days, but I could already tell it was going to last.

.

.

So yesterday, Tyler told me he'd like to take me on a sorry date.

"I'm sorry, what, a sorry date?" I asked amidst chuckles.

"Yeah," he said, smiling back.

"What does that mean?" I was confused.

"Like I don't know. A date like an apology for the jerk I've been to you."

"Okay, but wouldn't apology date sound better?" I said laughing again.

"Nope. I think the name I gave it sounds better." He replied, putting on a fake smug look.

We burst into laughter at his ridiculousness.

"Okay, but seriously, you don't need to do that," I started, "I already agreed to be your girlfriend, so obviously, that means I've forgiven you, I'm over that."

"Yeah, but that doesn't mean I've forgiven me. Let me just do this, please." He said softly, caressing my hand.

"Alright then."

So now, here I am, going through my wardrobe to find something nice to wear.

This has happened before but last time he wasn't my boyfriend. This time, he is, so 'sorry date' or not, it was still our first date as a couple, and I wanted to look good.

I decided to text him to know what he had planned so I could decide what to wear.

Lauretta:  Hey. Can you give me an idea as to where we're going? It'll help me know what to wear.

Ty: You could wear anything, and I wouldn't mind.

I blushed at this. He was so flattering.

Lauretta: But I would mind. I dont want to look off

Ty: dress kinda fancy. Does that help? I hope it does.

Lauretta: nooo

Ty: Just dress nice, babe. I assure you, you won't look off.

I sighed and flopped on my bed.

.

By 6:45 pm, I was ready. I ended up going for a black short dress with a corset and long puffy sleeves. I also had light makeup on and silver jewellery. I wore red-bottom heels to match my purse.

I took a few selfies and snaps, not for anyone, but for myself to look back on later, while I waited for Tyler. He said he'd pick me up at 7 pm.

I wasn't confident enough to put myself out there on the Internet, but I hoped to be able to someday. Not because I craved validation or anything, but simply because it was something I wanted to do.

At exactly 7 pm, Tyler texted me that he was at the door. I was very nervous because this was going to be our first actual date.

"Hey," I said as I opened the door.

"Hey," he said and gave me a quick peck on the lip, "Are your parents home? Let me say hi."

"Oh, no, they're not." I replied, "They went for dinner and dropped Diamond off at her friend's house cos I told them I was going out."

"Oh. You look stunning, by the way." He said while looking straight into my eyes.

I couldn't help myself, I looked away. My cheeks were already burning from the intense eye contact.

However, he had other plans. He placed his hand under my chin and gently turned my face to look at him. Then, he placed his mouth on mine and kissed me gently but with so much passion.

When he finally pulled away, he took my hand, and we walked to his car. He opened the car door for me and closed it after me before getting into the car.

Throughout the car ride, we spoke about all sorts of things. It's one of the things I like about our relationship. We never run out of things to talk about.

.

"Wow, this place is beautiful," I said as we entered the building.

There was an aquarium on the ground floor, an art gallery on the first floor, and a restaurant on the rooftop.

I know the place, and I know it's incredibly hard to get a reservation here because there's only a limited number of people that can be on the rooftop at once.

I looked at Tyler again, feeling grateful for him. He was perfect.

The aquarium was very beautiful. We spent some time looking. Truthfully, we kinda laughed at some of the funny-looking ones. But, hey, who doesn't sometimes?

The art gallery was also nice. I'm not an enthusiast, but Tyler is so for him, I found myself enjoying it. To be honest, I found some of the pieces beautiful myself.

Then we went to the restaurant. Our reservation was at 9 pm, which was perfect because we spent quite some time at the art gallery and aquarium.

The food was really nice. At first, I was a little self-conscious, but after a while, I felt comfortable. There was no awkward or dull moment. We just talked and ate.

"I hope I'm forgiven now?" Tyler asked as I was about to leave the car.

"You always were," I replied, smiling.

"Great." He said, then pulled me in for a kiss, "Good night, Lauretta. "

"Good night, Tyler." I loved the way he said my name.

I could listen to that all day.
