VALERIA'S POV !

We all walk into the hospital and Penelope walks out of Lydia's room and hugs all of us. "Hey, Pen, I got Lydia's stuff you asked for. Fuzzy afghan she likes, picture of the Pope, picture of a different Pope, picture of your dad, picture of the family, picture of me with the family, picture of Matt and me and the family, picture of me by a waterfall." Schneider rambled.

We all stared at him. "I'm just gonna keep talking cause I'm not good in crisis situations." He sighed.

"This isn't a crisis. Everybody, the surgey went well. It prevented a stroke. Now she's in a medically-induced coma. We just have to wait for her to wake up." Penelope explained.

"She is gonna wake up, right?" Alex asked I could just hear the worry in his voice.

"Yes, of course. But you know this women can't be rushed. My wedding started half an hour late because she needed to adjust her tiara. Yes, she wore a tiara to my wedding." Penelope tried to lighten up the mood.

I saw Elena and Sofia tearing up. "Hey, don't cry. Lydia says the tears are the pee pee of the face." I wipe the tears off their faces. The laugh a bit at the comment.

"Good vibes only. Okay?" Penelope looked at all of us.

"Good vibes." We said in unison. "Yeah, I'm gonna go." Schneider handed Alex the box. I quickly texted Matt to see when he was getting here I assumed he was in traffic or something. We walked into Lydia's room.

"Hi, mami. Look who's here. Alex, put this on her. Elena, papi on the nightstand. Val, Popes on the dresser, and Schneider bu the waterfall..." Penelope trailed off.

"Burn it." Sofia took the picture and put it back in the box. And nurse came through the door.

"Oh, hi, Nurse Wally." Penelope faked smiled before rolling her eyes. "These your kids?" He asked.

"Oh, no. These are children I picked up outside, so I can show them what a coma looks like." She replied sarcastically.

"Funny. Did you know that your mom is also a nurse? I do. She' only told me, like, a hundred times." He crossed his arms over his chest.

"This is running low." Penelope turned to him.

"That's literally why I'm here." He sighed.

"And that's why you brought a refill, right?" She snapped at him.

"I'll be right back." He said, leaving the room.

"He's kind of an idiot." Sofia said as she sat down on the chair.

"Why don't you guys get something to eat at the cafeteria? I swiped Nurse Wally's card so you get 10% off." Penelope suggested.

"No, it's okay mom. I'll stay with Abuelita." Alex said. We shook our heads and walked out leaving Alex alone.

I slowly opened the door to check up on Alex and Lydia. "Hey, you mind if I have some time alone with her?" I walked in.

"No, but just don't mess up her nails." He smiled and kissed my cheek. I waited for him to leave before sitting down in the chair. I've only know Lydia for a few years but I felt like I've know her my whole life.

"I don't want to get too emotional. But, two years ago when I met you all I felt like my life was complete. You guys became like the family I never had because all I had was my mom and Sofia. I've lost so many people in my life and that just caused me to be mad at the world and I was even mad at god because he took her away from me. But then he gave me you and your family. And I thank him for that everyday. Please wake up soon. Te amo, Lydia." I kissed her forehead and the door suddenly opened revealing Dr. B and Matt.

"Hi, Val. How's our girl?" Dr. B asked. I went up to hug them.

"We're just waiting for her to wake up. You know she hates being rushed." I smiled.

"She always says 'Would you tell a rose to bloom faster?'" Matt imitated her accent. Dr. B laughed. Nurse Wally walked back into the room with the refill. I just talked to Matt and I ignored what everyone was saying until I heard Nurse Wally say visiting hours are almost over.

"Oh, okay. So this is probably a good time to tell you that visiting hours are almost over." He mentioned.

"We'll this is probably a good time to tell you that were Cuban." Penelope laughed.

"Great, I am from Pittsburgh. But visiting hours are still almost over."

"Visiting hours don't exist, to Latinos." I rolled my eyes.

"My mom will not be left alone for one second. When my tía mimi got sick, 13 of us spent the night praying at her bedside and she just had pink eye. And then we all got pink eye. So that's what's up. You got it?" Penelope got up in his face.

"You're little, but I'm afraid of you." His voice cracked a bit.

"Good." She smiled.

"I got prep this bed." He pointed to the bed behind the curtain. "I am definitely not hiding." He closed the curtains in a swift motion.

"You two, come with me." She pointed to Matt and I. "Elena said the cafeteria food is a conspiracy to keep people sick, so it's all aboard the Panda Express. If anything happens text me." Her and Matt walked out before me.

"Hey, no hand-holding. Alex just did her nails and if you mess them up he will be very upset." I pointed to Dr. B.

...

I walked in with Alex who was carrying a tray of jello. "I was talking to the head nurse. She gave me all these treats after I gave her this treat." He smiled and pointed at his face.

"Mine is better." I smiled, as my dimples pierced through my cheeks.

"Three could play at that game." Dr. B smiled. I gave him a look of disgust. "I'll just give her money."

"Elena you want some Jell-O?" Penelope asked.

"Jell-O is made from boiled down cow carcass." Elena sighed.

"Well, more for me." Penelope picked up the Jell-O. Elena was standing beside Lydia and Penelope suggested that we left her alone. I nodded and walked out to see how Sofia was doing.

I had fallen asleep about an hour ago but I woke up to the sound of Penelope screaming. We quickly got up and ran in the room, seeing Lydia awake. We all huddled at her bedside. I saw that one of her nails were messed up. "What happened to her nail?" I picked up her hand. "Leslie." I said in and evil tone. His eyes widened in fear and he ran out of the room and I quickly ran after him.

It's been a few days since Lydia was in the hospital and we are finally at her and Schneider's citizenship ceremony. "Lydia Margarita Del Carmen Inclan Maribona Leytevidal de Riera." The woman called Lydia's long name.

"Dale, Abuelita, dale!" We sang. "There are other people." The woman said sternly.
