VALERIA'S POV !

I WAS SITTING at the table with Alex and Elena, scrolling through Instagram as Sofia and Matt were snuggled up on the couch. Sofia and Matt started dating a few weeks ago, they're really cute together. How my 12 year old sister has a boyfriend before me? I don't know.

Alex kept laughing and smiling at his phone, I was getting really suspicious. What if he has a girlfriend and didn't tell me? "What are you smiling at?" I asked.

He shook his head. "Nothing." Elena snatched his phone from him. Usually it's me doing that.

"I love you. From P." She read out loud. Hearing that made my heart drop. I loved Alex for as long as I could remember and now he's with someone else, and he didn't even tell me. I just stood up and say next to Sofia on the couch.

"What's wrong, Val?" Matt asked. I felt tears forming in my eyes.

"I think Alex has a girlfriend and he didn't even tell me and we tell each other everything. I've loved him for over a two years and I just can't get over the thought of him loving another girl." I said in a whisper. They pulled me into a hug and I tried to hold back tears.

I walked into the kitchen and got a plate from Lydia. I sat next to Sofia at the table and Alex looked at me in confusion. "Val, why don't you want to sit here? You always sit next to me." He asked with and eyebrow raised. I shrugged and started eating.

"At least Dr. B was nice enough to let me come home early so we can all day together. He had plans anyway." Penelope said.

"Did he mention where he was going?" Lydia asked. I couldn't hear the jealousy in her voice.

"I didn't ask." Penelope replied.

"Did he mention who he was going with?" Lydia asked again.

"Lydia, why do you care so much? Aren't you two just friends?" I asked.

"Sí, of course." She said. She turned to look at Penelope again. "Did he turn right or left out of the parking lot?"

"Just look at his Facebook. He checks in everywhere. Last week he checked into his attorney's office and wrote, 'Hashtag, my daughter is suing me.'" Alex mentioned.

"Syd and I would never stalk each other on social media." Elena said.

"I don't want to stalk him. I just want to know exactly where he is and follow him there." Lydia said.

"Lydia, you literally just quoted the definition of stalking." Matt laughed.

Lydia asked Alex to show her Dr. B's facebook. "He just checked in downtown at the opera. 'Hashtag, just checked in downtown at the opera." Alex read. I laughed softly and him quoting the hashtag.

"But I always accompany him to the opera." Lydia said.

"Ooh, what if he has another non sexual, platonic companion?" Sofia asked taking a sip of her drink.

Ooh, tea ☕.

"Oh, come on it's not like he took another woman." Penelope said. We all began to laugh, however, Lydia still had a worried look on her face.

"You think so?" She asked.

"Oh my god, no." Matt chuckled. "Have you met him? He probably took a family member."

"Yeah, like his daughter, who's suing him." I said trying to hold in my laugh.

"He can take whoever he wants." Lydia sighed.

"Abuelita, are you okay?" Alex asked.

"I am fine, papito. I am very, how you say... Very chill. Carajo!" She closed her curtains but they fell. How can such strength come out of such a small body?

"Yeah, that ain't chill." Penelope shook her head.

ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER !

I was kinda keeping my distance from Alex. I was just hanging out with Sofia and Matt at the table. Lydia's curtains flew open. She walked out in a long black dress with rhinestones at the top paired with black gloves and black heels. "I'm going to the opera." She said.

I rolled my eyes. "Mami, really? You're gonna go spy on Dr. Berkowitz?" Penelope turned her head to look at her. "How are you going to hide from him looking like that Latina Breakfast at Tiffany's?"

"I'm not wearing earrings he will never recognize me." She said going through her purse. I just went back on my phone until Elena walked in with Alex in front of her.

"Okay. So your secret girlfriend is P... Pearl? Patricia? Padmini? Ooh... Maybe P's not a student. Mrs. Perez, the lunch lady?" Elena rambled. I didn't want to listen to them continue to talk about this. I just started down at my phone, avoiding the contact with everyone.

I was still avoiding everyone. Elena and Syd went up to Alex and sat down with him on the couch. They kept trying to get him to say whoever his secret girlfriend was. I was just fed up with everything as stormed down the hallway and locked myself in the bathroom.

"Val, can we talk?" I heard Alex's voice. I stayed silent. "Val, please." He pleaded. I sighed and opened the door. He grabbed my wrist and dragged me to his room. I sat down next to him on the bed. "What's wrong?" He asked.

"Nothing." I shrugged.

"Val, I know you. You've been distant from me the whole night. First, you left the table to talk to Sofia and Matt. Then, you don't want to sit next to me at dinner. Then, you stop talking to everyone and lock yourself in the bathroom. There's definitely something wrong." He said.

I took a deep breath. "You want to know the truth?" I asked feeling my eyes begin to water. He nodded. "I love you, Alex. I love you more than a friend. And hearing Elena read that message out loud broke my heart. The thought of you with someone else breaks my heart. I didn't say anything because-."

I was cut off by soft lips colliding with mine. I was caught by surprise but I kissed him back. He pulled away and rested his forehead on mine. He looked at me and cupped my cheeks. "I love you too. I've had feelings for you since the day I layed eyes on you, I was just scared of rejection. 'P' isn't a girl."

"Oh my god, are you bi for something?" I asked kinda scared.

"No." He laughed. "I've been talking to my dad."

"So P stands for papi?" He nodded. "If Elena finds out she'll freak." I reminded him.

"I know. I made up a girl so she wouldn't figure it out." He said.

"You have to say something soon." I said.

"I know. But, right now I'd like to focus on you." He smiled as he intertwined our fingers. "So, Valeria Ramirez. Will you you be my girlfriend?"

I chuckled. "Of course I will." He smiled and leaned in the kiss me again.

...

"Okay, something just happend." I said walking into my room. Sofia looked up at me and furrowed her eyebrows. "So, um... I confessed to Alex. Then, he kissed me. Then, I kissed him back. Then, he asked me out and now I'm his girlfriend." I rambled.

Sofia's mouth hung open. "Well, it's about fucking time. I've been waiting for this day for the past 3 years." She chuckled and hugged me. "Wait, what about 'P'?"

"He's been talking to his dad."

"Does Elena know?" She asked. I shook my head.

THE NEXT DAY !

I was sitting next to Alex as I worked on an essay that was due soon. Penelope walked through the door. "Okay, everybody, I have an announcement." She said. We all looked at her and went back to what we were doing. "Alright, everybody, I'm seeing somebody."

"Ooh." We said in unison.

"Who is he? Or she? Or they?"

"She's been doing this all day." Alex said frustrated.

"It is a man." She said. She pulled someone in from behind the doorway. It was Max.

"Oh... It is a stallion." Lydia said, earning a chuckle from me.

"Everyone say hi again." Penelope smiled. We all waved at him.

"So tell me Max. Do you want a wedding in a church or a wedding on the beach?" Lydia asked. "There is a right answer."

"Okay, everyone say bye to Max." Penelope pushed him out the door. Dr. B walked in with Penelope.

"Hi, everyone." He said staring at Lydia.

"We all have stuff to do right now, right?" I asked, standing up.

"Yeah, I'm actually meeting a friend for pizza." Alex for up and walked out the door.

"You know, I'm in the mood for pizza too." Elena started walking towards the door.

Oh, shit.

Alex was supposed to be meeting his dad today and if Elena saw she would freak. "I'm gonna go with her." I quickly walked behind her.

I tried to keep Elena from seeing anything. "Um, instead of spying on Alex how about we go to the Library or something." I tried to pull her from the pizza place.

"Don't be ridiculous." She laughed and pulled me off of her. She walked in and immediately saw Alex with Victor. "Papi?" She stormed out and I ran after her.

"Don't talk to me!" Elena yelled. She slammed her keys down on the table.

"Calm down. You're totally overreacting!" Alex yelled back.

"Overreacting?"

"Hey, hey. What's going on?" Penelope asked getting up.

"He's been lying about having a girlfriend." Elena said.

"Papito's gay too? I will be the only woman he's ever loved?" Lydia stood up.

Um, not really.

"No. The 'P' in his phone was papi. He's been sneaking around and seeing him." Elena raised her voice.

"What? Your papi's back in the country? Since when?" Penelope asked.

"About three weeks ago. He has a month off and he's staying with tia." He replied.

"And you've been seeing him without telling me?" She asked.

"It's not as bad as it sounds. I knew you wouldn't like it, so I made up a girlfriend, then met papi in secret so you wouldn't find out." He confessed.

"No, that's as bad as it sounds." Penelope practically yelled.

"Papito, you are making me side with Elena, and it is very upsetting." Lydia shook her head.

"I'm not upset because you saw your father. You should be able to see your father. I'm upset because you lied to me." Penelope said.

"Papi said it was easier this way. You all hate him, so why make trouble? This way we can all be happy."

"We are not happy! I should be smothering you with kisses but instead I am frowning." Lydia shouted.

Me too, Lydia. Me too.

"I thought you had my back, Alex. You know what he did, but I guess you're find with it, huh?" Elena walked towards him.

"Elena-."

"I will never forgive you for this." She cut him off.

"What are we supposed to do, mom? Ignore him forever?" Alex stormed off. I walked down the hall and went into his room. He was laying on the bed just staring up at the ceiling.

"Heyy." I said dragging out the "y". He turned to look at me and smiled softly.

"Hi." He sat up. I sat next to him and he put his head in my lap. "I don't understand why it's such a problem." He mumbled.

"Well, he did leave Elena alone at her quinces because he couldn't expect the fact that she's gay. And she expected you to be on her side." I said running my hands through his hair.

"I am on her side. I just wanted to be able to see him." He looked up at me.

"But thay doesn't mean you have to sneak around to see him. You told me you would say something." I looked down at him.

"I know, I'm sorry." He sat back up. "I guess I was just being selfish. And I didn't stop to think how this could effect other people."

"It's okay." I caressed his cheek. He smiled and pulled me into a hug. "Do you think we should tell them about us?" I asked.

He pulled away and shrugged. "It's not like we can keep it a secret."

Elena and Penelope walked back into the apartment and Elena told us that she made up with Victor. "Um, Val and I have something to tell you guys." Alex pulled me by my wrist.

"What is it?" Penelope asked.

"We're dating." He looked at Penelope. "Please don't be mad."

"I'm not mad." She smiled.

"Finally!" Lydia exclaimed, and hugged us.

"I'm happy for you guys." Elena smiled.
