PERSONALITY
passionate, charismatic, and outgoing. aurelie has a big heart, strong views and ideas, and an even stronger personality. she manages to charm people without even tiring, a simple yet bright smile could do the trick. or it's the presence of her big personality, that people can not await. perhaps that and her caring nature play a part in how widely adored she is, and she knows that she is.
she has a kind nature to her, always wanting to look out for the 'underdog' since she knows no one else would. in a sense she takes on this guardian role for people, even people she doesn't know. aurelie is always ready to offer a helping hand. if its something she can control or can work with, then she'll definitely help out as best as she could. that's probably where the 'pure' vibes she gives off come from, her sweet smile and innocent glances. and while its not a façade at all, the look of innocent she can easily take on definitely is. it is one of her go to moves when in trouble, which is another thing — aurelie is quite resourceful, being able to use anything around her to her advantage. all she needs is a few moments and she can outwit the wittiest, pulling on an act. despite starting lessons at an early age, her intellect comes to her naturally. though of course, the lessons definitely helped her increase.
with that being said, she can be too selfless at times. when she's busy trying to give, give, and give, she simply ends up forgetting about herself. whether that's her safety, health, or sleep. it's almost as if she takes on other people's problems like they are her own. she doesn't want to make empty promises, but she can't help not promising people things and so, she has to fulfill these promises, even if its going to cost her. eventually, extremely late in the game though, she realizes that she's biting off way more then she can chew. also, underneath the soft, innocent persona she keeps up is a girl filled to the brim with mischief that's fueled by her excitement. innocent act by day, and 'wild child' by night — or at least that's what her mother would call her after feeling less faint from hearing the news), if she knew that is. but wild child would be an exaggeration, truly. the most she has done is an embrasser or two with a guy or two.
a natural born leader, in every sense of the term, is what aurelie is. she carries herself with her head held high, chin up, and shoulders back - a perfectly creamy set of pearls adorning her neck to top it all off. its what she had been taught since before she could walk, the earliest memory she could come up with. if she's not taking the reins when it comes to her younger sister, birdie, or helping others, then she's most likely leading conversations at her family's dinner banquets or other similar events. more than often she's had to swoop in at a lively party or social event to 'save' her sister, knowing the younger girl prefers to be away from the scrutinizing gaze of the socialites.
aurelie's confidence can be seen as contagious at times. its simply the way she carries herself, sometimes without truly meaning to. she's optimistic, always looking onto the brighter side of things. and when she cant seem to find a bright side, she'll create one. blame it on all the reading she does (she knows her parents sure do at times), how she's used to reading happy endings. in reality, she believes that there's already so much hatred in the world, why add upon that? while she's a confident person, liking to credit herself for all her accomplishments, she is very dependent on her family. as relying on them is all she's truly known. when in trouble, she looks to them (after the attempt of sweet-talking her way out of it doesn't work). when she needs something, she knows her family will just ask what color or style and it'll come her way. and while she knows this, she also feels a sense of guilt from it. the fact that she has the choice to be so dependent on them when others have to fend for themselves. due to this dependence on others, she has a pretty tough time making her own choices. she might have ideas that she wants, but there are moments where she doesn't know whether to pick between one thing or another. her mind is endless, filled with an imagination that leaves you wondering, but all of that can pile up on her, making her feel almost burnt out.
to put it simply, aurelie is an omnivert. she can both be introverted and extroverted, depending on the situation she is being pushed into. when it comes to the extravagant events, socialite filed parties, the bubbly champagne and silky outfits, she can blend right in. well, actually stand out, but you get the gist. she's welcoming, from her bright smile, encouraging eyes, and happy-go-lucky attitude. people just seem to be drawn in by that, and if not, then she'll make it a point to come and talk to you, not really to get you to like her, but instead get you to open up and feel like you belong. she can be the live of the party with a laugh or two, simply always entertaining those around her with her charming and warm presence, and her enthusiastic way of speaking. on the other hand, if placed in an empty room, with novels of all sorts and sizes, she'll happily curl up beside the window, book in hand and coffee or tea at her desk, along with the honey and strawberries. she's the sort of puzzle piece that would fit almost anywhere you choose to put her.
aurelie is a big believer in love, between any and all people. she's not there to judge, only admire and gaze wistfully from afar. an utterly hopeless romantic, that's what she's hear directed towards her before, in forms of teasing, though she'd have to agree. most often then not, you can find the girl gazing blissfully afar, daydreaming of a certain love to come and sweep her off her feet. by certain love, its either the 'perfection' person she'd envisioned, or the latest love interest in the novel she's reading. she's almost like a rapunzel of the french. if she were to fall for you, she'd fall completely and utterly in love.
her passion drives her. she's all for big, extravagant gestures, but thinks the small ones, the ones rarely thought of, are truly magical. if you were to end up with the golden girl, she'd shower you with love letters marked by her ruby lips and the daisies, roses, and tulips she's plucked herself. she goes all in, reaching a level of intimacy like no other. aurelie is also extremely loyal, towards her friends, towards her family, and towards her loved ones. she will not stop fighting for you, driven by her blazing passion through everything. aurelie can be seen as 'too sensitive' or 'too emotional', due to her having her moments of thinking with her heart instead of her head. its as if her feelings for a certain thing take over, and the more sensible side of her is pushed to the back. she thinks the 'too sensitive' comments are from boys who fear that she would do a much better job at their jobs, which she most definitely believes she could.
— brief backstory
born into immense wealth and a family who wont settle for anything, aurelie grew up pampered, to say the least. being the second eldest grandchild of, practically, the most powerful man in france and the eldest child to said man's own son came with its perks. she was giving her heart's desires on a golden platter, whatever that may be. she was more than likely to get away with things others only hoped to, though that didn't mean she went out of her way or went that far.
from a young age she was flocked by nannies, tutors, and the likes preparing her for what they thought was an inevitable role that she'll play for her family's benefit in the future. a prettily, polished pawn in their never ending game. she was her parents pride and joy for years, and she always tried to keep it that way. practicing any instruments they thought she should, learning any language or lesson that they deemed fit for her, taking in their ideals and views (for a short while). she was, more or less, the perfect daughter. in every sense of the term. soft smile, intelligent, speaking when spoken to. and she would've stayed as such if she had grown up alone.
thankfully, she had julian by her side almost as soon as she was born. she still remembered azure eyes staring down at her when she was about one, and he was about two. that would have to be her earliest memory of the boy. right after that, he was able to convince her to do anything, the two becoming inseparable as soon as she was able to teeter after him. with julian's influence (and the many times they had gotten into trouble together), she had realized that she could practically get away with anything anything and her parents would still favor her — after taking a moment to seethe and lecture, of course. so of course she slowly started to change bits of her rigorous schedule, gaining her 'freedom' bit by bit. she was still the 'perfect daughter', despite running about with her cousin, hiding away for a chance to read, and taking off at times during the night (and night, but they needn't know that).
her first time in any educational place, she was tutored at home, before the rest of the young girl's her age. almost around the same time as she started walking, or a few months later at two years old, she was learning to speak two languages (the starter, her maman had said): french and english, and more to follow. once she turned four, she joined a private schooling for the most prestigious kids. she completed her preschool years, and primary was to follow, with another private academy. at five, she was learning how to play instruments, more specifically the piano and harp. at this age, her younger sister, birdy, was around three and boy did the girl love her sister. cooing and teasing, braiding and reading to. she wanted to do it all with her, let her experience the things she had.
at eleven, aurelie schooling was done at home once again, not wanting her to get mixed up with certain new money. she missed the classrooms, being surrounded by the other girls, and not being suffocated by her parents. most importantly, she missed the novels and all sorts of literature that was offered. but there wasn't much she could do. so she made due with what she had and who was near. this was around the time her father had noticed her peaked interest in literature and allowed her supervised trips to their library. when she was thirteen, she returned to private schooling at an all girl's institution, not that she minded much. she just enjoyed being out of the house. this carried on for three years, before she finally returned to home schooling again. this time she didn't mind as much, the opportunity of having the library all to herself outweighing her need for being social at school. she had her family after all, who else did she need to be social with?
stéphane had also taken a liking to the golden girl. she played chess with her grandpére as he took her in under his winning. teaching her the way of the game, while still maintaining his winning streak every time. she often felt that the only reason he would play chess with her was to boost his ego, but she'd like to think he enjoyed her company as well.
her name opened up many opportunities that she wouldn't have had without it, she knows that and is extremely thankful for that. her desire to read, learn, and venture out as much in all aspects of her life as possible wouldn't have been encourages. instead she knew she would've been told that that was no place for a girl. most importantly are the people behind the name, her family. the people who — have their own ways of showing it — love and care about her.
when thinking of the blonde beauty, consider a songbird trapped in a cage of expectations for entertainment — filled with the wistful thinking of being let out, of stretching her wings, of freedom, in a sense.
— important relationships *
andré ambroise ; her papa , if you will. when you look past his overbearing, overprotective, and strict visions he has for his family and daughters — you can actually see a father whom cares, to an extent. she knows her papa loves her, and she loves him. she might go as far as to say she's a ' daddy's girl ' — for lack of better words. sure he's dumped most responsibilities on her maman, while acting as though he's always around (when he definitely could've made more of an effort). but she knows he wants what's best for them, even though what he thinks is best for them might be a bit.. (a lot) outdated. they grew a stronger bond with their love of literature , always opting for a new novel from her father as she grew up, rather than a souvenir from his travels.
camille ambroise ; her dear maman , who took care of them, taking up the responsibility bit when it comes to having children. however, that didn't mean that all is well. yes, aurelie love her maman , but the constant need for perfection can become ever so draining. and that's all her maman seems to strive for, that and impressing papa andgrandparents. she tends to be fussy about this image they must maintain, and while she understands that, she doesn't have to agree with it entirely. she's forever grateful for her being there when papa wasn't around, though.
bernadette 'birdy' ambroise ; aurelie knows her younger sister and her share a strained relationship at times. and she hates it. strained in the sense that birdy is the youngest, and expected to fill up her shoes. the constant pressure to live up to another's shadow, and always falling short of it, she doesn't know personally how it feels, however she can definitely figure it out after seeing her sister throughout the years of her growing up. aurelie loves her sister, and she misses the times they would spend together when they were much younger. so any moments with her now, she likes to 'savor'.
stephane ambroise ; growing up, she held a certain fear towards her grandpére , much like the rest of his grandchildren. however as she grew older, he seemed to take a liking towards her. that meant endless games of chess. even at the start of her lessons, she simply enjoyed it. every calculated move, every second ticking by. she loved it, and the more she played with her grandpére , the better she got. she had never beat him, though that doesn't mean she hadn't gotten close to doing so (and let me tell you, she'd brag about it for days). after awhile, aurelie learned of how to not anger him. a few simple things, but most of all, remain respectful to the older man and never dishonor the family name.
antoinette ambroise ; if anything could be said about her dear grandmére , it is that she is a force to be reckoned with. holding a certain grace and elegance every where she goes, that even the most tasteless of people — people who feared and held a bitter hatred for the stone cold marble man himself — still respect and looked at her with a sort of appreciation or high regard. and aurelie can definitely agree with them there. out of everyone, her grandmére is probably her greatest role model. ever since she was younger, she adored visiting her grandparents. it involved endless treats and sweets from all over, new games almost every time they visited, and a warmth that was quite hard to find amongst the rest of members in their family. all that being said, grandmére can scare the most confident of people with a look — that included aurelie. while she loved her grandmére , the woman could scare her senseless with a sharp look sent her way. her views on family are quite similar to antoinette's, family is important and family comes first. as she grew older, she noticed more and more the tugging of strings her grandmére did behind the scenes, almost holding everyone — and everything — together.
julian marbot ; out of everyone, she's the closest to julian. the two are almost like two peas in a pod , if you will. about a year apart, they ended up growing up together. wherever they went, trouble followed closely, though their parents were even closer — ready to scold and fix anything they had done. eventually, the two had learned to get away with things they had caused, maintaining secrecy from their families. brunch in town translates to speeding in a car with her hair in the wind as she basked under the sunlight. a little book shopping (or any shopping really) meant that aurelie had managed to convince julian to play a match of tennis, or golf, which leads to more than just one match.

OPINIONS ON:
— sexism
sexism is a seed that she feels has been planted deeply in the hearts of, not all, but many people. more specifically, men. however what truly disappoints her is seeing the few women following in suit of this. she had heard and received sexist remarks, both from people in her family and a stranger who thinks they know better. they came to her when she was younger and hoping to play with any of the boys outside ; 'a girl can't play this, they're too weak' or 'you'll just end up crying to your papa, so leave'. and it only grew worse as she got older. 'you're too pretty to involve yourself in such foolery' and 'don't worry your pretty little head about it, we have it handled. now- fetch one of the help for some tea, ma chérie.' needless to say, she doesn't agree with it. does she speak up against it? it depends. when spoken to by her papa and grandpére, she simply smiles and nods. however, if spoken to be a stranger, then that's different.
— homophobia
love is love. that's something aurelie truly believes in. whether you're a male who loves another male, or a female who love another female — or even both. she sees no reason in getting in the way of someone's happiness, especially when no one is being hurt by this love. having spent half her life reading of novels about love, while also daydreaming about her own 'fairytale ending' for years, she learnt of love. true love. not what her parents have, not what they think they're fooling their children with. that's not to say she hasn't seen love, or glimpses of it from her grandparents, for example. that rant aside, she finds it brave when someone who loves another of the same sex speaks freely of such, as she knows the judgmental look the world has on all that is perceived as different.
— racism
growing up in her household, rich and white, and being surrounded by plenty of white elitists, her vision on issues like these were distorted. racist remarks being thrown around as if nothing, you could even call it common amongst certain crowds. uneducated, naive, and trusting — these comments would fly over her head. it never felt right, but she didn't speak up when she was younger. keeping quiet in fear that she might do something wrong. how ironic, right? eventually, as she grew up, so did her knowledge on the subject. she would read incidents, from the past and present, fictional and nonfictional. she would see incidents, in town, at events, and even in her own home. and as she started gaining more confidence — growing more educated as the years passed — she'd make her disapproval known, in her own way. whether it was shooting the person a look, speaking up against it, or whatever else her mind comes up with in the moment.
— sex, drugs, drinking (optional)
all things she has been been warned against, from her maman and her papa. even her grandpére and grandmére have voiced their prevailing opinions without so much as being prompted to do so (she swears they could go on and on if not stopped, but who truly dares stop stephane ambroise). to maintain their perfectly golden flower, prized possession if you will. purity in image and self, and for the longest time, she followed and listened along blindly. but what could you truly expect when getting mixed up with other people, even people within their circle. spending time with her favorite cousin, julian, meant spending time with the devil on his shoulder, alastair. she knows vaguely of sex and drugs, what she has learned coming from those around her, the latter briefly being covered by an anatomy lesson or two that she hazily remembers. even if she were to know about the subject, she wouldn't bother herself much with it, due to wanting a true love like from the novels first. kisses, however, she does not shy away from in the slightest. a stolen kiss her, a secret look there — definitely brings a twinge of fun to her life. now when it comes to drinking, her family tends to be a bit loose with this rule, as wine is greatly favored amongst them. her first sip had been from a rich, red wine and has since grown to become her favored drink.
