Part 26
You make your way to the lab, your head still spinning. You have flashes of memories that aren't yours and yet they are familiar. You see the base torn apart, corpses scattered about, and red lights flashing around you. It's a terrifying image, but it only exists in your nightmares. At least, that's what you tell yourself. The sound of the automatic doors opening draws you back to reality. You have a job to do.
Entering the lab, you find everything in a buzz. All the computer screens flash and buzz and many scientists in long, white lab coats huddle about. In the center of the room, hooked up to a machine, a rock-like egg shell lay broken on a scanner. The bright light and loud noises hit you like a punch to the stomach. What's wrong with you? It's like two different people are fighting for control of your brain. You're not sure which one is really you, but you hold onto the more vivid memories.
One of the scientists walks up to you. "Doctor Johnson, I'm glad you're here. We've made some progress on the egg analysis."
You follow the young scientist to a large monitor.
"At first we thought it had to be some kind of shell, but, upon closer examination, we've found that it's sedimentary rock, like that of an astroid, that has been superheated until it formed a hard, yet hollow, casing around its contents." The young man speaks excitedly.
"An astroid?" You whisper.
"Yes ma'am/sir."
