The tall buildings whizzed past me and the abundance of trees seemed to lessen, the longer the train ride continued. I was still recovering from the shock, I had felt seeing him.

I turned my body to face him again. He was sitting across from me. He hadn't uttered a single word since he had arrived.

"Why?"

He sighed,"Katniss,I-"

"Why, Gale? You were the one who did it, weren't you?" I asked again in a deadly calm voice.

Gale looked at the floor of the train compartment,"I did it for our families! She promised-"

I shook my head in an amused manner, but my face said it all,"If you really did it for our families, what is this?"

I held out the brand new leather wallet that I had swiped from his back pocket  that Gale had certainly not had before. His eyes widened as he patted his back pocket to check if it was still there. He couldn't say anything to support his earlier statement.

"Tell me, Gale. Who is this person who gave you this? If you were really supporting our families, you would have left this at home."I pulled at the soft leather. "This type of leather can only be found in the Capitol. The people in District 12 almost never go beyond the gate, and if they did,they would never be able to get the leather to be this soft. Earlier, you said "she," so who is this woman who gave you this?"

"Coin."

I looked at him in confusion,"You mean President Coin of the school board?"

Gale looked out the window,"Yeah, her. She promised me that she would take my family's names out of the drawing. She also promised to give me that wallet."

I peeked inside to look at it's contents. There were quite a few hundred dollar bills inside. I throw it back to him.

"Here. I don't need it. I like to earn things myself,"I started walking to my room.

I paused and turned to look at him,"You were the one who did it."

There was absolute certainty in my words. He avoided my eye contact, and it was enough of an answer for me. He was the one who had captured me. I thought back to the night before. They did not cuff me like they did others. Gale must have told them that I could have broken out of them easily. I locked myself in my room that night, and cried myself to sleep.  Why?

~The next day~

I woke up to Effie Trinket calling me. She was my escort to the school.

"Katniss, dear! We have arrived!"

I looked out the window. We had arrived in front of a magnificent white building. I took a deep breath and smoothed out my out my new outfit the Capitol arranged for me. I took my new suitcase they had also given me that included all my necessities for the school year. The only thing item that I had of my own was pale blue dress my mother had given me for the day of the reaping. In its pockets, had a small necklace of rope Prim had given me because of her obsession of Dad's song called The Hanging Tree. I clutched it in the palm of my hand and stepped out of the train and opened the doors of my future.
