• Chapter Nine •

It was dead quiet that night. The moon sat high in the sky, lighting up the darkness. A little boy curled up into a ball, laying in a dirty alley. Tears trickled down his cheek as he wrapped his small arms around his body.

"What are you doing here?" The little boy jumped in shock, turning his head to see a little girl with snow white hair. "I-I live here..." the boy whispered, wiping away some tears that had fallen. The little girl hummed, coming to sit beside the boy. "I'm Aurora." The little girl said, giving a wide smile.

He gasped, "you mean princess Aurora? The one from the castle? What an honor! I'm Drew!" Aurora giggled, nodding her head. "Yes, I'm that Aurora. I was just taking a walk, and I could hear you crying. Where are your parents?"

Drew's face melted back into sadness, "well, you see, I don't know! They disappeared a few months ago. I hung out in the abandoned building until they decided to take it down. And here I am..."

Aurora sighed, grabbing Drew's hand into hers. "I know I shouldn't do this, but you can stay in my castle! I would just have to hide you. Daddy wouldn't like it if he found out I was hiding someone..."

Drew beamed, jumping into Aurora's arms. "Can I? Oh, I'm so excited! Thank you so much, Aurora!" Aurora giggled, wrapping her little arms around Drew. "Hang on tight, I'll teleport us to my room." With that, the two disappeared into thin air.

***

The room was big. Each wall was a magnificent white, lined with a bright gold. Drew's eyes widened as he gazed around the room. "It's so pretty! I can't believe it!" Aurora smiled, placing a hand on Drew's head. "It is quite nice, but keep your voice down. I don't want the guards knowing you're here."

Drew let out a gasp, slapping a hand over his mouth. "I'm sorry! I'll keep quiet from now on, I promise." A giggle escaped Aurora's lips. "Don't worry about it. Now, let's just head to bed, I'll wake you up a little early so that you can hide. I can't have the maids finding you either."

Drew nodded his head, then scurried over to Aurora's bed. "This looks so comfortable!" He exclaimed, clapping his hands together. "It is! It's like sleeping on a cloud." Drew smiled, climbing up into the bed, followed by Aurora. "I've been sleeping in dirt for awhile, will they notice?"

Aurora hummed, gazing up at the ceiling. "Yeah, most likely. But I'll just tell them it was me. I get into trouble a lot." A sly smirk formed on her face, "they'll believe me, so don't you worry."

***

"Wake up! Hurry! I forgot to get you up! They're coming!" Drew's eyes flew open. Aurora scurried out of bed, and grabbed Drew's hand. "There's not time, hide under my bed! Quickly!" Drew panicked, then shape-shifted into a bee. "Oh! You're a shapeshifter, perfect!"

The door opened to reveal two maids. Their faces were filled with confusion and concern. "Princess Aurora. Were you talking to someone just now?" One asked, furrowing their eyebrows in confusion. Aurora laughed nervously, glancing down at the bee sitting beside her foot. "No, I was just talking to myself. Ahaha..."

The maids glanced at each other, not fully sure what to think. "Right, um, of course. Let's strip your bed.

As she watched the two go to work, Aurora quickly bent down and picked up the bee. "I'll head down and talk to father!" She exclaimed, fast walking out the room.

***

"Holy cow, that was close!" Aurora giggled, looking down at the bee in her hand. "I know! I probably should of told you I could shape-shift, but everything worked out in the end!"

A smile formed on the princesses' face, "I have something to give you, Drew." Drew shape-shifted back into himself, his eyes sparkled with confusion. Aurora pulled out a ankle bracelet, colored a beautiful gold. Drew gasped, taking it from her hands. "Is this for me?" He asked, glancing between the bracelet and Aurora. "Yes. It's a sign of our friendship. No matter where we are, we will always be together if you have it on."

Aurora lifted her gown, showing the green ankle bracelet she had on. The color matched Drew's eyes perfectly. "Thank you so much, Aurora!" Drew exclaimed, slipping the bracelet onto his leg. "You're the best person I've ever met!"

Both of them giggled, beaming with joy. "Shape-shift into a bee again, I don't want you to be caught." Drew's face filled with panic as he quickly shifted into a bee once more. Aurora picked him up, running over to the dining hall. "Stay hidden in my hair," she whispered, moving her hand so that he could walk onto her shoulder. Drew mumbled an 'okay' as he scurried behind her neck.

The dining hall was large, in the center  was a long table holding only two people, the king and his queen. "Morning mother, father!" Aurora chirped, settling herself into a chair. Aurora's father hummed, grabbing his glass of wine. "Good morning, Aurora. Did you sleep well?"

Aurora nodded her head, grabbing a fork. "I slept very well! I can't remember my dream though, so it had to be good!" Aurora's mother smiled, "that's good, honey."

Drew was incredibly nervous. He felt like a villain, hiding until he could make his move. How long would he be staying here? What would happen if he did get caught? Only time will tell.

***

Aurora sat crisscrossed on her bed. Drew, on the other hand, laid on his back humming a little song. "That was nerve wracking! I thought he would catch us right away!" Aurora exclaimed, running a hand through her hair. Drew glanced over at Aurora, giving a small smile. "So did I! I've never been that scared in my life! Well, maybe that's not true..."

A sigh escaped her lips, "we'll have to be more strategic next time! Since you can shape-shift, everything will be easier, we just have to figure out how!"

Drew sat up, giving Aurora a thumbs up. "Everything will be okay, I have all my trust in you!"
