Running
Rosanna's POV:
I ran down the sidewalk, shoving people out of my way and being rather rude in my quest to find my happy place. Despite the fact that I had just gotten to London last week, I had already done my research and found the one place on earth where I felt at peace: a bookstore. I had already been there earlier in the week and had made friends with the little old lady who owned it, and I already thought of it as a safe-house. Something that I desperately needed after being on the phone with my mother that morning.
Two and a half hours earlier:
I danced around my hotel room, doing my best to boogie while listening to One Direction's Live While We're Young. My music stopped automatically when the phone rang, and I picked it up, not bothering to look at the caller ID.
"Hello?" I asked happily, I was in a good mood and I wanted the world to know it.
"Rosanna, my baby, how are you darling?" Oh boy, it was my mother.
"I'm fine, how are you mom?"
"I miss you so much, Kurt called yesterday and he's on his way back home to help with the house and everything but I really miss you and your gorgeous face, have you found a job yet, what have been doing wasting your time you need to get a job! And you need to find a place to live, have you found a relator yet?"
This is what it was always like, talking to my mom. One minute she'd be complimenting me, then she'd insult me, then she'd talk about my older brother, and she'd just constantly nit-pick me and everything I'd been doing.
"I miss you to mom, and I know Kurt's on his way he texted me to tell me, I haven't found a job yet, yes I've found a relator and I have an appointment with her in two days."
"Well, you need to get looking for a job, you can't just waste your time working on that silly novel of yours, writing isn't an occupation, you need to get a real job and make money so that you can live over there."
Ouch. That stung. I had been working on a novel for two years, I had just finished it yesterday and I was planning on sending it to an editor to see if I could get someone to publish it. Hearing my mom call it a waste of time nearly killed me.
"Okay." Was the only word I could reply with. She didn't notice my pain, though, she just kept right on talking, for two hours straight, barely letting me get a word in edgewise. Finally I had had enough, I couldn't take her hurtful comments and rambling anymore.
"Mom, I love you, but I can't handle listening to you anymore, so I will talk to you another time. Goodbye." I hung up on her protests, fighting back tears. I threw on my shoes and jacket, grabbed my purse and room key, and headed out the door.
Current time:
I kept running down the street, desperately trying to keep the tears from falling, I wasn't looking where I was going, just letting my feet take me on autopilot to the little bookshop. Suddenly I ran into something solid as a rock, bouncing off of it I fell flat on my tush. I looked up to see a young man, with shaggy brown hair and beautiful blue-green eyes. I recognized him immediately, it was Louis Tomlinson, but what struck me was how BROKEN he looked.
He had obviously been crying, he didn't have any sort of disguise, his shoes weren't on all the way, and he was missing a jacket despite it being the middle of August and freezing cold. He looked down at me in horror, before reaching down a hand to help me up.
"I'm so sorry love!" He gushed, his accent shining through. I smiled at him gently.
"No harm done." I assured him. "Are you alright?" I asked him carefully. He nodded.
"I'm fine, you didn't hurt me." He reassured me. I shook my head.
"That's not what I meant. Are you alright? What's wrong?" I asked him, honestly worried about the poor boy.
"How do you know something's wrong?" He asked me, confusion written on his features. I shrugged.
"Your face is red, and your eyes are puffy, like you've been crying. Your shoes aren't all the way on, you're missing a jacket despite the frigid temperatures, and you didn't bother to put on a disguise or even a hat to keep people from recognizing you."
He looked at me in shock, and then suddenly his eyes started to water again. I immediately, without thinking, pulled him into a hug, rubbing his back gently. After he stopped sniveling I pulled back, reaching into my purse I grabbed a beanie and a pair of sunglasses, handing them to him. he took them wordlessly and put them on.
"Thank you." He whispered.
"Anytime." I replied, happy that I could help him. I extended my hand.
"My name is Rosanna Schnieder, it's a pleasure to meet you."
He shook my hand, sending tingles up my arm. "Louis Tomlinson, it's very nice to meet you Rosanna." he said quietly.
"I'm going to take an educated guess and say that you don't want to go back just yet, and since I was running away from my emotions to go to my happy place, would you like to join me? Get away from reality for a little while?"
As I was talking I could feel my tears starting to come back as I remembered the reason I had been running, he looked up at me but I couldn't see his expression due to the sunglasses.
"Escape from reality sounds nice, and I really don't want to go back yet. I would love to come with you." He said, sounding a mixture of concerned and depressed. I smiled shakily at him.
"Let's go then." I started walking, trusting him to follow me, and he did.
A/N: This is my first time writing on Wattpad, so I'm sorry if it seems a little odd to you. I hope you enjoy it! And can someone please tell me in the comments how to vote on an entire book, not just a chapter? Also, how do you change the fonts?
