Chapter 9

When Paul re-appeared I ran to the couch and took my purse so we could finally go. We started walking towards the door, Paul took my hand and kissed it, he left it again and laid his arm over my shoulder.

"So? Where are we going?" I asked him, wondering where the heck he was taking me.

"Just a place I found out about a few days ago when you were working." he answered, whilst checking me from head to toe. "You look beautiful by the way, sorry for not noticing earlier." he added.

"That's alright, Ally helped me out." I commented, looking at the ground and smiling.

"Ah that Ally girl is very ... friendly." he told me after a pause with a weird expression on his face.

"Urm, are you talking about the George thingy? Yeah, well, he kind of was her crush apparently..." it was weird to talk about my best friend and George. I mean, I still feel weird about George because when we wrote letters to each other he used to be so different and romantic. But now he's just a great friend and I don't really feel much about him. I mean when he told me he was coming I thought that we'd be an item by now. Though in the end I ended up with Paul, and I don't care if it's weird any more because he is George's friend and I just feel so right with him.

"Oh well, if her 'dream' came true then I guess it's just fine ain't it? I just thought it'd be weird with her being your best friend 'nd all."

"Yes, she is, and don't worry, she would never hurt him. I trust her in that"

"Well, 12 years of friendship is a long time to build trust so I believe you." he smirked to himself.

"How'd you know we'd been friends for 12 years?" I looked at him confused. Paul suddenly seemed kind of nervous. He looked at me and mumbled something.

"Well urm... I err, George, George told me"

"Oh did he?" I still was pretty confused, why would George bring that up?

"Yeah ... look! We're already here" Paul dropped the conversation by showing me where we were. It was a little park near the town, I really liked it 'cause it had a small fountain and loads of flowers and the place was always pretty neat.

"Oh Paul I love it here!" I said a little too excited.

"Really?" he questioned, whilst admiring the place with a proud smile. "I thought it was nice since there ain't much people here, y'know?" He was right. I didn't know why but there were rarely many people around there, despite how beautiful it was.

"Yes, why don't we sit over there?" I asked him pointing to a bench down a tree surrounded by yellow flowers.

"Sure thing ma'am." Paul placed his basket down and put his guitar behind him.
We had lunch and I devoured the whole set of food Paul had brought with. I was starving. So after we had finished we just laid together, beneath our tree, talking about anything, feeding the birds with the rest of our leftover bread.

"It's weird y'know, I feel like I've known you since, like, forever." I said, out of the blue.

"Do you?" Paul kept his gaze in the sky.

"I do." I looked over at him, he seemed to be lost in his thoughts.

Some seconds later he replied "Maybe you have." this time his eyes met mine. "Not forever, like, maybe... a few years." I could feel his thumb drawing circles in my shoulder. I was confused now.

"What are ye talking about?" I seemed to ask that very often.

"Baby, haven't you realized yet?" Paul asked me, now running his eyes over my lips.

"I feel like realizing stuff is the only thing I do lately." This sentence brought a smile to Paul's face.

"You haven't even started..." Paul whispered to my lips as he got nearer each time, teasing. He finally gave up and his lips met mine.
I'm not exactly sure how much time had we spent making out in the nice summer weather, but in the moment we stopped to breathe we saw the sun was already setting and my shoulders started to feel the chill of the sea wind.

"Yer cold sweetheart?" Paul asked me as he tried to produce heat by brushing his hands on my back.

"Just a little." I said blushing, nobody apart from my mum had ever called me sweetheart, and it was the most sweetest thing.

"Well we can go back home, but I totally forgot I brought me guitar all the way 'ere, and it would be a shame if I didn't perform a song for me lady!" he said whilst taking off his denim shirt and handing it to me, although he still had a white t-shirt underneath. What a shame.

"Wait but won't you be cold?" I asked him as I took his shirt and I laid it over my shoulders.

"Even in the way you blink; your eyes warm my heart up." he said trying some chords on his guitar, I blushed.

"So what are ye going to play?" I asked trying to hide the blushing with my hair.

He looked up to me and laughed, "You're adorable!" then he went on, "This is a song I've been writing for quite some time now, a few months maybe, I finished it a couple of days ago.

"If you let me take your heart, I will prove to you We will never be apart, if I'm part of you Open up your eyes now, tell me what you see It is not surprise now, what you see is me..."

He sang his song as if he was trying to explain something to me. His voice was soothing and suddenly something clicked in my head, how could I ever be so blind?

"Big and black the clouds may be, time will pass away If you put your trust in me, I'll make bright your day Look into these eyes now, tell me what you see Don't you realize now, what you see is me Tell me what you see"

My hand made its way to my mouth in amazement; I couldn't believe what was happening, or what had been happening for so long. But why?

"Listen to me one more time, how can I get through? Can't you try to see that I'm trying to get to you? Open up your eyes now, tell me what you see It is not surprise now, what you see is me Tell me what you see"

And so everything started to make sense. Why George was so distant. Why Paul and I automatically connected as soon as we met. How he knew all that stuff about me and why I felt like I've known him all this time. Paul wrote the letters.

"Listen to me one more time, how can I get through? Can't you try to see that I'm trying to get to you? Open up your eyes now, tell me what you see It is no surprise now, what you see is me"

Paul left his guitar and stared at me, waiting for an answer "So? Tell me what you see..."

"Paul, it's you. It has always been you." I threw myself to his arms and I could feel the smile printed on his beautiful face already.
