"Ay ay, didn't I tell you not to touch my empanadas? Necio," Pedro Madrigal Jr, known as Papito, scowled playfully as his older brother, Julian Madrigal, known as Nenito, stuck his tongue out at him.

Only to whine and retract his childish action when a mini star hit the tip of his tongue, followed by low feminine laughter.

Reyna Madrigal, known as Bebé, handed a new plate full of freshly cooked empanadas to her youngest brother who grinned cheekily at her, kissing her on her cheek in thanks.

"How was I supposed to know, you put a thin line of flames around them? They looked way too delicious not to eat, hermanito," Julian pouted but then brightened as his older sister gave him an arepa con queso.

"Hmm, maybe cause you saw me create a thin line of flames around them? Pendejo," Papito snorted as he ate one of his empanadas, making sure to wave it in his older brother's face.

Julian flicked his wrist and water doused his younger brother in the face for a brief moment.

Reyna merely sighed and rubbed her temples as her younger brothers began battling with their powers, Julian with his water manipulation and Papito with his fire manipulation.

Using her astral projection ability, she was able to levitate the now unguarded plate of empanadas over to her and she quietly crunched on one while drinking her steaming mug of hot tea.

Finally after almost half an hour, Julian and Papito called a truce, in order to help their beloved older sister with cleaning up their house.

They had three portraits in the hallway, one of Pedro Madrigal Sr, the Madrigal Patriarch, one of the late Lisette Madrigal and the other was of the three of them as children with their mother and their father, the future seer, Bruno Madrigal.

"Good morning, Mama, Papa y Abuelo, té quiero mucho," Reyna kissed her fingertips and touched them to the portraits of their beloved mother, father and grandfather.

Her younger brothers followed her words and gesture, their eyes filled with sadness and remorse as they wrapped Reyna in a tight embrace, knowing how much she sacrificed for them to have a childhood.

"Gracias para todo, hermana," Julian and Papito kissed their older sister on her cheeks in gratitude.

"Para siempre, hermanitos," Reyna reminded them that their bond would be forever.

Once they gradually let go of each other, they made sure their house was completely clean before relaxing in the family room.

Reyna focused on summoning several mini planets at once and also stars to light their way while Julian focused on making weapons out of water and Papito was doing the same as his older brother, except with fire.

The reason they were focusing on the offensive side of their abilities was to make sure no enemies could get to them.

Some of the descendants of the colonizers that had forced both sets of grandparents to flee many decades ago, had murdered their mother, Lisette Madrigal, just as they had murdered their paternal grandfather, Pedro Madrigal Sr.

And ever since then, it had made them work harder on not only exploring their gifts but also making sure that they wouldn't have to go through losing one of their loved ones again.

Julian sighed over dramatically as his older sister countered his ice sword with a literal throwing star of hers, their younger brother had himself in a protective circle of flames.

Papito was humming a sweet lullaby that Abuela Madrigal used to sing to him and his older siblings when they were children.

It was called Dos Oruguitas, meaning Two Caterpillars and it was a story of love and pain, sadness and resilience to continue on in life, despite losing the one you loved.

Abuela Madrigal had told them the story of how brave and how loving their grandfather, Abuelo Madrigal had been.

And Papito strove to be just as brave and loving as Abuelo Madrigal had been.

After another half hour, the children of Lisette and Bruno Madrigal, ended their training and made dinner together.

Reyna had been focused on making sure that her eggs were completely over easy, she had been upset the previous day since they had been scrambled, that she missed Papito flipping off Julian in a playful manner.

Or he thought she missed seeing him do that to the middle child.

"Pedro Madrigal Jr, so help me if you flip Nenito off again, I'll use your middle finger in the food," Reyna raised a finely laid eyebrow as Papito pouted while Julian snickered at his younger brother being scolded.

"And Julian Madrigal, if you antagonize Papito again, I'll shave your hair off," Reyna threatened as her sea green eyed younger brother immediately touched his beloved messy hair and scowled playfully at her.

"You wouldn't dare, woman!" Julian was looking at his older sister as if she was insane for suggesting such a crime.

"Alright, Bebé, we got the message loud and clear, sheesh you didn't have to threaten us like that," Papito grinned sheepishly as their older sister pulled them both into a fond embrace.

As they sat down to eat, they prayed to Santa Muerté for protection and for the safety of the rest of their family, even Abuela who seemed to rule the rest of the Madrigal family with an iron fist.

And as they ate, they talked about their childhoods, about how their late mother had taught them to stand up for themselves and to never let Abuela control their lives, the way she controls the rest of the Madrigal family.

Lisette Madrigal neé Mata had been the only one to go face to face with Alma Madrigal and she always won, in fact, Abuela Madrigal had admitted that she loved the headstrong young woman for never bowing down to her.

And now after the death of their mother and the disappearance of their father, Reyna, Julian and Pedro Madrigal Jr, had taken after their mother when it came to being headstrong and fiercely independent but took after their father when it came to their loyalty to each other and their tender mannerisms.

As Papito did the dishes that night, Julian let out a curse as he checked the mail.

Reyna merely raised an eyebrow in curiousity as she examined the letter that had been sent to them, it had all three of their names on it.

It was from Mirabel Madrigal, the youngest daughter of Julieta and Agustín Madrigal, the one who had the strongest bond with Casita.

"' I don't know if you three remember me but I'm Mirabel Madrigal, my mom is Julieta and my dad is Agustín, my older sisters are Isabela and Luisa. The reason I'm writing to you is to ask you for your help, Dolores won't help me since it won't necessarily benefit her and Luisa has been very emotional lately. I need your help, all three of you, Casita is falling apart, the magic that she gifted us is dying and Abuela won't do anything about it. Tía Pepa and my parents told me about Tío Bruno, about how he disappeared shortly before my Gift ceremony and was never seen again. But I know Dolores knows where he is, she just won't say unless it can benefit her somehow and so Abuela won't call her crazy. And I know you three have been estranged from the family since Tía Lisette passed away and Tío Bruno disappeared but I'm pleading for you to help me save Casita, save the magic, save our familia. Love, Mirabel Madrigal, tú prima chiquita. '"

It was silent for a while as the three lone Madrigals digested what was happening to Casita.

"It's just like Abuela Madrigal to ignore it in favor of not allowing Mirabel to truly be part of the family, she's such a -" Julian was cut off as Reyna covered his mouth gently and shook her head.

"Well, I say we help little Mirabel out, she actually reached out to us. The only ones that still reach out to us are Tía Julieta and Tía Pepa and Camilo. The rest of the family has never attempted to contact us, but I'd say Abuela definitely kept the younger ones from trying besides Camilo who's cunning enough to escape her strict watch. Besides, Mirabel is the one who Casita adores the most, besides Mamá," Reyna spoke firmly but she would always give her younger brothers choices.

"Let's help Mirabel, besides it'll be nice to see her and Camilo again," Papito grinned as he was closer in age to them, compared to his older sister and brother.

"Abuelo Madrigal gave his life for this family, Mamá gave her life for this family, therefore we help and protect this family, so that their deaths are not in vain, but if Abuela Madrigal thinks she can control our lives, she's sorely mistaken," Julian smiled grimly as he touched his necklace, the one that their late mother had given each of them when they were born.

His necklace was an ocean wave, Reyna's was the planet Venus and Papito's was a hearth, signifying their gifts.

Their mother had the gift of elemental manipulation, meaning she could control the earth, air, fire, water and spirit.

Her parents, Abuela and Abuelo Mata, had the abilities of telekinesis and time travel, respectively.

Their gifts were a true Gift from Santa Muerté who chose to reward her most faithful followers.

"It's long overdue that we visit Casita again and remind Abuela who it was that made Papá disappear," Reyna smirked and her younger brothers copied her facial expression.

Abuela Madrigal better watch out.

The three children of Lisette and Bruno Madrigal were out for blood.
