Surprise
~Mark
"Good morning-" I rolled over to my side to face Sean, then remembered that he left and presumably went to the living room to sleep on the couch. "Sean?" I called out, sitting up and swinging my legs over the side of the bed, sliding off to land on the frigid wooden floor. I checked the time on my phone, making sure I didn't sleep in too late. It was four in the morning. "Sean?" I repeated, poking my head out of the doorway to peer into the living room, quietly venturing forward in case he was still sleeping. "Wake up sleepyhead, don't want to miss the flight." I shook the bundle of blankets on the couch lightly. Frowning, I shook harder, waiting for a reaction. Eventually I ripped the blankets off, revealing only a couple of pillows. Growing increasingly more worried, I carefully inspected each room in the house, still finding no sign of Sean. "I-if you're hiding, it isn't funny." I stammered, biting my tongue in hopes of stalling the tears rapidly forming in my eyes, blurring my vision. Did he abandon me?, I panicked as I grabbed my phone, hastily calling him. The cushions of the couch vibrated, emitting a soft noise. When I pulled the cushions off, I found his phone lying face up, exposing the glowing screen with my contact image on the front. He never left his phone at home. I felt a warm liquid flow in my mouth, it's taste coppery like...blood. Realizing I was still biting my tongue, I released it and took a shaky breath to try and calm down. "He wouldn't leave without telling me." I reasoned. Images of the fear in his eyes when I touched him and the silence I heard when I said I loved him echoed in my mind as I sank on the torn apart couch in defeat, letting the tears I fought so hard to fight back roll down my cheeks as I pulled my knees in to my chest and buried my head inbetween them. My nails dug into the skin of my arms like they were a lifeline keeping me alive. I heard a knock on the front door open, but I didn't react. When the door opened, I dared to look up to see who it was. Sean. He had two brown paper bags in his hands, as well as two plastic coffee cups. "Mark what's wrong?" Sean instantly sat down the bags and coffee, sitting down on the couch by me. My heart swelled with relief as I fell into his arms, never wanting to let him go again. "I-I thought you left me, and it was a-all my fault." I hiccuped as he soothingly rubbed my back. "Hey, I would never do that to you." "But why did you leave your phone?" I showed it to him. "I honestly thought I had it with me, it must've fallen out if my pocket." He admitted meekly as he took it in his hands and slipped it in his blue hoodie pocket. "I wanted to get you breakfast as a surprise." Sean leaned over and grabbed one of the bags off of the floor and a coffee cup, handing it to me. Inside the bag was a warm cinnamon roll and a couple of doughnut, and the coffee smelled of pumpkin spice, steam swirling from the opening in the lid. Together we sat on the cushion-less couch eating breakfast, sitting in comfortable silence until we finished. "It's six." Sean stated as he got up and stretched with a yawn. "You tired?" I smirked as I stood up and tickled his ribs, unable to resist the opening I saw. "Stop it!" Sean laughed playfully, smashing my hands against him with his bony elbows. "You have bony elbows!" I complained as I stopped tickling him so he could release my hands. "That's what you get for picking a bone with me." Sean joked. "Why am I being tortured with pain and bad jokes?" I groaned as I struggled to free my hands. Sean finally relented so we wouldn't be late, carrying both of our suitcases to the car while I massaged my aching hands. It took longer than expected to get to the airport due to traffic, causing the two of us to wildly run like maniacs just to make it on time on the plane. I flopped down into my seat feeling exhausted from running, sweat beading my forehead as Sean sat down beside me, gasping for air. "At least now we can relax." Sean panted with a wry smile. Suddenly fans began swarming us, holding out phones for pictures and asking for autographs. This is gonna be a long flight, I thought as I began signing.
