Sixth Time's A Charm
~Dan
"I'm going to get coffee, wanna come with?" Phil nudged me. He was already dressed in a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. "But I'm in my couch crease." I shifted slightly to prove my point. I was sitting with my legs curled on the couch, scrolling through social media. "Guess you're not getting coffee then." He started walking out of the hotel room. "Wait, I'm coming!" I shut down my laptop, carefully setting it aside as I scrambled off of the couch before quickly changing into a pair of jeans and my black t-shirt with the white circle on the front. Phil smiled triumphantly as he grabbed my hand, swinging the keys of our rental car in hand. When we reached the nearest Starbucks, I was surprised to find a familiar face already there sitting at a table with a girl. "Hey Mark!" I greeted him. He jumped as if electrified, relaxing when he saw Phil and I. "Hey guys, this is my friend Amy." He introduced us to her. She awkwardly waved, taking a sip from her steaming coffee cup. "Just friends huh?" Phil teased. "Y-yeah." Mark stuttered, face burning a bright red with embarrassment, which was unlike him. "I was joking!" Phil patted him on the shoulder. "I know." Mark chuckled nervously. "Well I gotta get going, Sean's probably wondering when I'm getting back." Mark hastily excused himself, dumping the remains of his coffee in the trash as he left. I shrugged as Phil and I ordered our coffees, waiting patiently for them. "Why do you think Mark was in such a rush when we saw him with Amy?" I frowned as we sat down at a table far away from Amy's. "He seemed pretty embarrassed." Phil mused. "Well he did say that he wanted to get back to Sean." I added. "Yeah." Phil said, unconvinced as our coffees arrived. I didn't blame him, I felt doubtful as well. We left with our drinks and drove back to our hotel. Only an ambulance and fire truck were parked out front. When I looked up, I noticed that one of the hotel rooms were on fire. And Jack was stuck in there. Mark was on the ground, covered in burns with tears in his gray hoodie. His glasses were missing as well, soot and ash stuck in his red hair. "Sean, I need you to jump!" Mark yelled up to him, from here, I could see Jack shaking, his blue eyes filled with fear. He got up on the windowsill, slowly standing up. "One, two, three!" Mark counted down. Only on three, Jack didn't jump. Instead, he stayed exactly where he was, frozen to the spot. Mark started climbing up the building like it was a rock wall instead of a burning building, his face set in a grim determined expression. "I got you." Mark clambered on top of the edge, allowing Jack to climb on his back piggy back style. Before Mark could start climbing back down, something in the room exploded, propelling them off of the ledge. Firefighters gathered in a circle underneath them, grabbing them before they hit the ground. "They're my friends, they're my friends." I repeated as I shoved through the crowd. Jack was still clinging onto Mark, even though both of them were unconcious. Paramedics managed to carefully pry Jack off of Mark before placing them on stretchers, strapping oxygen masks over their mouths. "Where are they going?" I asked one of the paramedics. "Swedish Cherry Hill Campus." He closed the door of the ambulance as it started driving off. I nodded in appreciation before Phil and I got back in our car, driving well above the speed limit. I tried to not think of all the worst case scenarios that would happen as I entered the hospital. "Sean Mcloughlin and Mark Fischbach." I gasped to the receptionist, out of breath from running across the parking lot to get inside. "Down the hall, take a left, first one on the right." She directed. I darted down the hall without thanking her, carefully opening the our room door in care they were still unconscious. Jack was awake, grasping Mark's hand as he sat up. He winced in pain, but remained silent. "Hey." Phil cleared his throat. Startled, Jack dropped Mark's hand. "Oh, hey." He smiled weakly. "How are you?" I asked. "I have second degree burns on my back and first degree burns on my hands, but otherwise I'm pretty good. I'm just lucky Mark came back for me." He glanced over at Mark, watching his chest rise and fall. "Came back for you?" Phil furrowed his eyebrows. "Mark grabbed my hand and jumped through the window, but...I got scared and slipped out of his grasp." Jack admitted sheepishly. "Sean?" Mark groaned softly, his eyes fluttering open. "I'm right here Markimoo. You saved me." Jack assured him. "What is this, the fourth time in the hospital?" Mark wondered aloud. "Sixth." Jack corrected him. "Still wanna do the Revelmode panel? It's in a couple of hours." Mark asked. "Of course!" Jack plucked the IV out of his arm as a doctor entered the room. "Here's the release forms. Try to take it easy." He cautioned. "I'm Markiplier, I dont know what that word even means." Mark joked quietly so only Jack, Phil and I could hear. "Need a ride?" I offered, holding up the keys. "I'd appreciate it." Jack grinned.
