Family Doesn't End In Blood

~Jack

The ride to the place where the convention was being held was silent except for the soft music playing on the radio. Mark was staring out the window, but every once in a while out of the corner of my eye, I would catch him glancing over at me with a worried expression, like if he didn't check on me I'd be gone. I didn't blame him since I did leave him when he asked for my trust.

"We're here." I was snapped out of my thoughts by Dan's announcement.

"Thanks." I plastered a fake smile on my face as I exited the car, wincing as the burns on my hands brushed against the car door handle.

"I'll meet you backstage." I told Mark, Dan and Phil as I started searching for Signe's booth. It thankfully didn't take long to find since the line from it seemed to stretch for miles. Still inside my pocket was the now slightly crumpled up drawing that she made of me that she had forgotten in her haste to leave. She was hunched over a drawing of what looked like Princess Leia.

"Hey." I flashed her a genuine smile as I snuck behind the booth. She jumped in surprise, a streak of gray stretching off of the page.

"I heard what happened, are you okay?" She gently took my hands in hers. "I am now." I kissed her cheek. It felt so right, even though I knew it was wrong. Mark and I were supposed to get married, what was I doing? Then I realized what I was doing. Following my heart, and it led me right to her.

"Hey babe-" Mark froze when he saw me talking to Signe. I expected to see hurt in his eyes, but only found confusion.

"Mark-"

"Look, I get it...you don't seem to love or trust me anymore. I just wish you would've told me." He teared up a bit as he disappeared in the crowd. When I looked back at Signe's booth, she was no longer there. I exhale slowly as I walk backstage to get ready for the Revelmode panel.

Instead of feeling hurt like I should've when I found Sean kissing a girl, I just felt...disappointed, like I should've known that he didn't care about me anymore. I should've taken the hint when he refused to trust me. I was abruptly yanked from my thoughts when I accidentally stumbled into someone.

"I'm sorry-" the apology died in my mouth when I saw who it was. Amy.

"Hey Mark." She carefully hugged me, cautious of my wounds.

"I'm sorry about..." she trailed off. I knew what she meant. "It's fine." I swallowed, my emotions conflicting me. Part of me still cared about Sean, but standing here now talking to Amy made me feel something I hadn't felt in a while. Loved.

"The coffee was nice by the way...thank you." She blushed shyly.

"No problem." I smiled warmly.

"Shouldn't you be going to your Revelmode panel?" She reminded me with a small smile.

"Oh, right! See you later!" I kissed her hand as I practically ran backstage so I wouldn't be late, barely making it on time before Ken announced my name. I took a deep breath before walking onstage, smiling and waving to the crowd before standing close by Sean. I couldn't tell the fans that we weren't together anymore. He squeezed my hand as we sat down in separate chairs facing Ken, Felix, Emma, and PJ. Kwebblekop and Jelly sat in chairs on our side. We were gathered around a table that would presumably be used for games.

"So, how're you guys?" Felix leaned forward in his chair, clasping his hands together.

"Other than feeling like a crispy potato chip, I'm pretty good." Sean revealed his hands that he had hidden in the pocket of his blue hoodie. Gasps were audible from both the crowd and the people onstage.

"Okay, now we have to know the story." Ken interjected, receiving a murmur of agreements.

"Well, there was a bit of carelessness and forgetfulness on my part..." I trailed off to let Sean continue.

"You still owe me breakfast since you burnt it." Sean teased, lightly slapping my arm.

"Yeah...my bad." I awkwardly rubbed the back of my neck.

"Anything else?" Felix changed the subject to save myself from further embarrassment.

"I'm gonna be a father in May." Ken announced proudly.

"Really?" My eyes widened in surprise. He had lived alone, except for his dog and snake, for as long as I could remember.

"You adopting?" PJ asked excitedly.

"Nope." Ken beamed confidently as a woman with blond hair waltzed onstage from the back and threw her arms around him, briefly kissing him on the lips.

"I'm dating Mary and I don't care who knows it, I'm damn proud!" Ken exclaimed.

Suddenly a sea of security guards rushed onstage like an ocean tide, reaching towards Ken and Mary to tear them apart. I felt my blood boil with rage I stood up out of my chair, marching to defiantly stand in front of them. I couldn't let more of my friend's happiness be taken away from them. Clutched in my hand was a scrap of paper Amy had shoved into my hand before I left with her phone number scribbled on it.

"I'm not dating Sean anymore." I declared.

"I've met a beautiful girl named Amy Nelson." I continued.

"And I've met Signe Hansen, the best artist in the world!" Sean beamed cockily.

"Cry and I were never dating, we used it as a cover so I could date Marzia!" Felix revealed as he too stood up, a brunette girl rushing to his side. Soon more than half of the crowd was standing with their significant other. Amongst them I spotted Bob and Wade standing next to Molly and Mandy.

"You going to arrest all of us?" I taunted, glad to have my friends back me up. The guards exchanged glances before reluctantly backing off, disappearing offstage while everyone cheered. The panel continued on as Amy, Signe, Bob, Molly, Wade, and Mandy joined us onstage for games like Cards Against Humanity and Funemployed. It wasn't until after the panel that we heard that the law banning being straight was removed.

Even as the years passed, Sean and I remained good friends while Amy joined me in YouTube videos more often than not while Sean was content learning how to draw with Signe. I also still keep in touch with Bob and Wade, playing Prop Hunt whenever I had time, occasionally inviting Sean. In the end, we were all something that I hadn't had in a while. Family.
