55| Train Of Fools
It was New Years Eve.
Zoey was inside her room, looking at herself in the mirror. She wore a blue dress with black stockings, her hair was tied up in a messy bun with strands of hair coming down from the sides. Shawn was taking Zoey out to a party with Cory, Topanga and Eric.
"Zoey! Shawn's here!" Zoey's mother called.
Zoey smiled widely before she raced down the stairs. Shawn stood by the front door, wearing his famous leather jacket on. Zoey rushed towards her boyfriend and hugged him.
"All right, kids you know the drill. Don't do anything you shouldn't do." Lucy told the kids.
"It's all right, Mrs. Francis. I'll take care of your daughter." Shawn said, wrapping an arm around Zoey's waist.
Lucy smiled. "I know you will, Shawn. Well, go have fun. But not too much fun."
Both Shawn and Zoey held hands as they walked out the door and towards Shawn's so called 'limo'.
"Shawn, why does the limo look like a hearse?" Zoey wondered in confusion.
"Come on, let's go." Shawn insisted, ignoring his girlfriends' question as they hopped into the car. "We gotta go to the Matthews' place to pick up Eric and Cory."
It only took a couple of minutes when they arrived at the Cory's place. When Zoey stepped outside, she wrapped her arms around herself when the ice cold air began to make her cold.
Shawn immediately removed his leather jacket from his shoulders and placed it on hers. Zoey gave him a small smile as she pulled her arms in it.
Shawn rushed into the Cory's house. "Come on, everybody! Let's get crazy!"
"Hey guys." Zoey greeted with a smile as she stood beside Shawn.
"They're on my side." Cory said to his parents, as he wore a tuxedo. All the Matthews' family were all dressed up nicely for New Years Eve.
"Cory, Uncle Lazlo and our limo await." Shawn said, and everyone looked out the door.
"Why does that limo look so strange?" Mrs. Matthews asked.
"Maybe because it's a hearse." Mr. Matthews said.
"I told you." Zoey told her boyfriend.
The limo's horn tooted out the death march.
"That's cool." Cory stated.
"Yeah. Wait till you see what's in the back seat." Shawn said, and Zoey's eyes widened.
••••
They took the hearse down to the party and picked up Topanga on the way. But unfortunately they had to turn around and go back to the Matthews' place.
"Nice going, Shawn." Cory scolded as they walked inside. "Without Uncle Laslo's hearse, how are we gonna make it to the parties?"
"Hey, hey. It's not my fault, okay? You see a corpse breathing, you've gotta take it back. It's the right thing to do." Shawn responded.
"Look, I'm happy for the stiff, all right? But it really stuck it to a lot of people." Cory said.
"Yeah, I don't think that guy was dead in the first place." Zoey added, standing beside Shawn.
"Gee, guys, it's New Year's Eve. A time to celebrate, not fight." Topanga told them.
"You know what? You're right, Topanga. Okay. And we're gonna make this the best New Year's Ever ever. If we were dead, 'cause then we'd have a ride." Cory said in a serious tone, glaring at Shawn.
Eric then walked inside with supermodel Rebecca-Alexa. Zoey's jaw dropped.
"Oh, Rebecca-Alexa, I am so sorry the car broke down." Eric apologized.
"Eric, don't worry about it. These things happen." Rebecca-Alexa said smoothly.
"You understand? You're not mean and Icy? Oh! You are a super-duper model." Eric complimented.
"Oh, my god. Do... do you know who you are?" Shawn questioned as he stepped forward. "You're Rebecca-Alexa. I'm a big, big, big fan. I'm huge." Zoey smiled and nudged her elbow into Shawn's ribs. "And this is also my girlfriend, Zoey."
"Thank you." Rebecca said with a smile, and turned to Zoey. "Hi."
"Hey." Zoey nervously greeted.
Cory stepped forward. "Hi, Hi. I-I'm Cory. I'm Eric's brother. Um, this is Topanga. She's a girl from school, but -"
"Cory?" Topanga questioned.
"She's also my girlfriend, and I love her very much, so, uh, don't get any ideas." Cory added.
"So so, do supermodels have any special powers? I mean, like, can you read what I'm thinking?" Shawn asked.
Rebecca paused for a moment before nodding. "Yes."
"I'm really sorry." Shawn apologized, looking down shamefully. Zoey slapped the back of his head. "I have a girlfriend and I love her to the moon and back."
Eric walked back over to them. "Rebecca-Alexa, I lucked out. I got us the last cab in Philly."
"Oh, Eric, you gotta let us share it." Cory pleaded.
"All right, let me think." Eric said as he paused. "I'm seeing a big hairy 'no'."
"Eric, this is my first New Years Eve out of the house, all right? I mean, without this cab, we're stranded." Cory said.
"All right, hold on, hold on." Eric said as he paused once more. "No, I tried. I just can't care less."
Rebecca then placed a hand on Cory's shoulder. "Cory, I know how you feel. My older sister never took my anywhere. I never forgave her."
"Cor, great idea. Why don't you share our cab, bud?" Eric quickly asked.
"Why, thanks, Eric. What made you change your mind?" Cory wondered, smiling widely.
"Why don't you come over here, and I'll tell you?" Eric said as he dragged his little brother to the other side of the room. The two spoke in low voices
"Oh, Eric, don't you worry about that. I am not gonna do anything stupid." Cory stated.
••••
Not even ten minutes later.
"Cory, how could you do something so stupid?" Eric questioned as they all walked back inside the Matthews' house. "You sent away the last cab in the city."
"Look, I'm telling you. There was something weird about that driver. I mean, didn't you see his license in the windshield? It wasn't even his picture." Cory said.
"Cory, if stupidity was in the Olympics, you'd win a Nobel prize." Eric told his brother.
"Um, gold medal." Zoey corrected.
"Yeah, what she said." Eric said.
"Look, Eric, the man was obviously an imposter, okay? I mean, for all I know, he was gonna take us to some warehouse and cut out our livers." Cory exasperated.
"Hey, no biggie. I've already had mine out." Shawn said calmly, sitting down on the armchair.
Zoey walked over to him and pressed a kiss on top of his head. "I love you, but you really make me concerned."
"Rebecca-Alexa, I apologize for all the stupidity that runs in this family. I'm just a carrier." Eric told the model.
"It's no big deal. I don't need to go to a big, crowded party with everyone staring at us." Rebecca said.
"Oh, we're goin', baby." Eric insisted.
"Hey! Light bulb, Why don't we just have our own little party right here?" Topanga questioned. "I'm telling you, it'll be so much fun making popcorn, watching the ball drop -"
"All right, all right. Cory, make it stop." Eric said, interrupting Topanga. "Look, Rebecca-Alexa, one way or anther, we are gonna be seen at that party."
"How? I mean, what are we gonna do? Take the subway?" Rebecca asked.
••••
Next thing Zoey knew, is that they were currently taking the subway. Zoey, Shawn, Cory and Topanga stood near each other, holding onto the pole above them.
"Great idea, Rebecca." Eric told her.
"I wasn't being serious." She said.
"Well, then, you licked out, cause this is fun. I mean ridin' the rails in a might locomotive. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can." Eric chanted.
"It's nice to see you in a better mood, brother." Cory told his older brother.
"Just die." Eric said through a gritted smile.
"Isn't this great? There is something so exciting about doing things by the seat of your pants." Topanga said.
"Yeah, like that guy." Eric said, pointing.
All of their heads turned to the back of the train car and groaned in disgust. Shawn immediately covered Zoey's eyes with one hand.
"Hey, Cory, why do I feel like we're being watched?" Shawn asked, uncovering his girlfriends' eyes.
"You feel that too?" Cory questioned.
Zoey nodded. "I do as well. It's weird. You know, it feels kinda like -"
The three turned to see a poster beside them of Mr. Feeny, stating 'I WANT YOU TO STAY IN SCHOOL' to which the three of them screamed.
When the train stopped, Shawn began rushing people off the train. "Okay. Come on. Let's do it, people. We've got parties to go to.""
"What's your rush?" Zoey wondered.
"It's only 10:30. We have plenty of time before midnight." Topanga added.
"Yeah. And, Eric, you'll be kissing Rebecca in front of all of Philly, just like you wanted." Cory said.
"In front of all of Philly?" Rebecca asked, shocked.
"You know, I don't know where he gets this kinda stuff." Eric said, trying to move on.
"So your brother thinks of me as just a trophy?" Rebecca asked Cory.
Cory paused for a moment, looking to Rebecca and Eric, who was shaking his head.
"Yes!" Cory exclaimed.
"Cory!" Eric yelled.
"How do you lie to a supermodel? I mean, those lips can see right through you." Cory responded.
"Eric? I just remembered. I have to go home." Rebecca excused before she walked off the train and into the night.
"What? No, wait! Rebecca-Alexa!" Eric shouted but the train door closed. "No!" He began to run to each door. "Rebecca-Alexa! No, wait! Stop the train! Stop the train! Rebecca-Alexa! No!"
"Eric! It's okay." Cory said, trying to comfort his older brother.
"I have to get off the train. I have to get off the train!" Eric exclaimed.
"No. Look, you can get off at the next stop, all right? There aren't any cabs left in the city. She can't get too far. Trust me, okay? Everything is gonna be dandy." Cory assured.
Just then, the trains lights shut off and the train came to a sudden stop. Zoey let out a small yelp when her body was jerked backwards and fell onto something, more like someone. When the lights turned on, Zoey smiled when she noticed she fell on Shawn's lap.
"Hi." Zoey greeted with a lovingly smile.
"Hi." Shawn said, holding onto her waist.
"What did you do?" Eric questioned, glaring at Cory from the floor.
"Nothing." Cory defended himself.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your -" The voice on the train intercom spoke but his voice began to cut out. "We seem to be experiencing a major -"
"What did he say?" Zoey asked.
"He said Cory broke the train." Eric sassed.
Both Shawn and Zoey got up from their seat and walked up and down the cars of the train to figure out what went wrong with the trains. Every compartment was something different. In one car Zoey grabbed sodas, and Shawn got a mini crab cake. They were walking back and saw a woman - named Mrs. Genelli in labor, and they both saw the head.
Shawn and Zoey finally opened the compartment door to see Cory, Topanga and Eric.
"Okay, guys. Zoey and I have been up and down this train, and here's the scoop. Car five, parochial schoolgirls who ditched their nun." Shawn stated.
"Nice." Cory told him before noticing Topanga looking at him. "For Shawn."
"I had to smack him across the head before we kept on walking." Zoey simply added, taking a sip from her drink. "Oh, and car two, Mrs. Ginelli just went into labor. We saw the head."
"Hey, what are you eating there?" Cory asked.
"Oh, that's the best part. Some caterers are stuck in the next car." Shawn said, showing Cory the food. "Look. Look, it's a tiny, tiny crab cake."
Cory grinned. "In a light pastry shell."
Eric suddenly slapped the crab cake out of Shawn's hands. "Will you forget about the crab cake? The subway. The subway, can they fix it? What's wrong with it?"
"Why would I ask?" Shawn scoffed. "We've got food, babes..." He stopped himself when he saw Zoey glaring at him. "No babes and birth. Eric, the cycle of life is complete."
"Not without Rebecca-Alexa." Eric replied.
••••
Shawn and Zoey were currently by Mrs. Ginelli, who was giving birth. Zoey rushed to the car where Eric, Topanga and Cory were at.
"Okay. Mrs. Ginelli's real close. Does anybody here know anything about deliveries?" Zoey asked before seeing a pizza delivery guy. "You. Pizza guy. You'll have to do."
Zoey quickly pulled the pizza guy up and rushed him to car two.
After a couple moments later Zoey adjusted the party hat on head before taking a sip from her soda as her and Shawn walked back into the car where everyone was at.
"I don't know about guys, but we are having a great time." Shawn said, passing a soda to Cory.
Zoey nodded in agreement. "He's right. I mean, I thought it would be boring but when you see the fun side of it... It's great!"
"Oh, and the pizza guy says he'll have the baby delivered in under thirty minutes." Shawn added.
"Let's go. We gotta have fun." Zoey said with a wide smile.
Shawn and Zoey held hands as they walked back through the compartments.
••••
Zoey laughed as she adjusted the party hat on her head as she danced. Cory had set up the car with caters, music and decorations so it felt more like a party.
"Okay! All aboard the party car. We've got refreshments by the conductor's booth, we've got dancing right here, and if you guys want a quite place to chat, there is plenty of room down by the sad guy." Cory said, motioning to Eric.
"Hey, everybody! Listen up. How about we give it up for the man who put together this little underground paartay?" A guy said, placing a hand on Cory's shoulder.
"What?" Everyone, including Zoey asked.
"Party." He clarified.
"Oh." They all cheered for Cory.
Zoey danced her way towards Shawn and saw him dumping many mints into his mouth.
"What are you doing?" Zoey asked.
"I just ate a garlic ball and I'm pretty sure you don't wanna be kissing me with garlic breath." Shawn said.
"And I regret eating that garlic ball." Zoey said as she quickly unwrapped a mint gum from her pocket and chewed it as quickly as she could.
"Okay, everybody! Listen up, listen up! The New Year is coming in! Five.... Four, three, two, one! Happy New Year!" Everyone shouted.
Zoey wrapped her arms around Shawn's neck, leaning up and pressed a kiss against his lips. Shawn smiled into it and decided to dip Zoey down. He placed her back up and his lips puckered when they pulled apart.
"Well, I know one things for sure." Shawn began.
"And what's that?" Zoey asked.
"That I'm in love with you." Shawn told her.
"Happy New Year, Shawn." Zoey said, pressing a kiss against his lips.
"Happy New Year, Zo." Shawn said against her lips.
