Chapter Two
Guardian opened his eyes shaking off the cold leaf-fall air as the sun appeared over the hills and Whisperfoot wandered up to him.
"Your vigil is over, I suggest you get something to eat then get some sleep," She informed the three newly made warriors.
Sighing Daypelt meandered over to the fresh-kill pile, "Rabbit or crow?" She asked sleepily half leaning on Guardian.
"Let's take the crow," Guardian picked it up gently and walked over to a sunny spot in camp to eat.
Daypelt sat down beside Guardian and they started to eat as a kit walked up to them.
"Who are you, little guy?" Daypelt asked the kit a small smile forming on her face.
"I'm Blazekit," The kit meowed, "You two are new warriors right?"
"That is correct," Guardian nodded.
"And you are the one who chose their own name," Blazekit turned towards Guardian.
"That is also correct."
"The other kits say they hate you," The blue tom admitted, "But I don't, why would they hate someone for their name?"
Sighing Guardian looked up at the morning sky, "I don't know, some people are just close-minded."
"They hate me because I don't have parents," Blazekit mumbled.
Daypelt wrapped her tail around the young kit, "Cats can be idiots sometimes and not think about how their words can hurt someone."
Blazekit curled into Daypelt's soft fur, "They are all idiots."
Guardian touched Blazekit's head with his nose carefully, "I will talk to you later little one, we need to go and sleep."
"Okay, see you later," Blazekit smiled walking back to the nursery.

Guardian blinked the afternoon sunshine out of his eyes and stood to his feet nudging Daypelt who was half-asleep beside him.
"What time is it?" Daypelt asked stretching and standing up next to Guardian.
"Mid-afternoon," Guardian said walking out of the den and into the harsh sunlight.
Daypelt looked around at the camp, "Let's go hunting," She murmured nodding to Grasseye who nodded back as he guarded the camp.
The pair soon got to a small clearing in the forest, "How about we try here?" Guardian asked. Daypelt nodded and opened her mouth to sense for any prey nearby.
"There is a mouse over there," Daypelt muttered quietly pointing with her tail to a few bushes.
Guardian got into a hunter's crouch and stalked towards it and jumped on it quickly killing it neatly.
"Well done," Daypelt purred, "There is a pigeon over there, I'll get it," She crouched and stalked towards it and pounced. The pigeon flew up but not in time and Daypelt caught the bird.
Guardian nodded, "Amazing," He smiled, "It might have scared off the other prey, so let's go to another location."
----- ----- -----
Guardian and Daypelt walked into camp with their mouths full of prey, "Well done you two," Whisperfoot smiled at them, "Get something to eat then you can have a rest."
"Thank you," Daypelt murmured as Guardian nodded his head in thanks.
Daypelt walked into the warrior's den and lay down exhausted in her nest with Guardian curling into her long fur.
----- ----- -----
Guardian woke up suddenly as a small thing jumped into him. He snapped up to find Blazekit jumping on him and Daypelt.
"Yay, you two are awake!" Blazekit smiled standing to his feet after Guardian knocked him over.
Rolling his eyes Guardian sat down as Daypelt smiled at how the kit woke them up, "You could have woke us up in a different way."
"But that was more fun!" Blazekit smiled.
Daypelt laughed gently, "You have to admit that would be more fun than waking someone else up normally."
"Yeah, your right, but it is still kind of annoying to be woken up suddenly," Guardian pointed out, "But I understand that you like to do it."
Blazekit smiled walking out of the warrior's den, "Can you show me the hunter's crouch?" He asked.
"Of course!" Daypelt told him getting into the hunter's crouch to show him, "You tail has to be lower and hold your hind legs further apart for balance," She instructed him.
Soon the small kit got the position right and looked expectingly up at Guardian who nodded, "Well done, you are getting it quite quickly."
"Do you think I can become an apprentice soon?" He asked happily.
Guardian let out a little chuckle, "You are only four moons old, you need to wait a bit."
"Two moons is hardly a bit," Blazekit complained, "I hope I get one of you as my mentor."
"I'm sure you will," Daypelt smiled wrapping her fluffy tail around him.
----- ----- -----
Guardian walked to a small stream drinking in the cool water before returning to his hunting. In the fresh leaf-bare air he had already managed to catch a few mice and a rabbit.
"Well done Guardian," Tigerfur smiled carrying a few squirrels.
"Thanks," Guardian nodded digging up the last mouse he had buried.
Soon the small hunting party made their way back to camp their jaws laden with some fresh kill, "I can't believe you guys got so much prey!" Daypelt smiled nuzzling Guardian.
"I think Owlhunt fell into a rabbit den, the rest of us were just lucky," Guardian explained, "Spot anything odd on your patrol earlier?"
Daypelt shook her head gently, "Just a ShadowClan apprentice thinking that they can swim and their mentor having to fish them out."
Rolling his eyes Guardian dropped his prey off keeping the rabbit for himself and Daypelt to share, "I expected ShadowClan to teach their apprentices better."
"I cannot believe it either," Daypelt sat down in a sunny spot of the camp and started eating the fresh rabbit.
"They act so pridefully but an apprentice falls into a stream," Guardian started to eat the rabbit with Daypelt.
----- ------ -----
Blazekit jumped onto Guardian, "Guardian!" He smiled as the warrior shook him off, "Are you going to the Gathering tonight?"
"Of course I am, why wouldn't new warriors go to a Gathering?" He smiled, "I'm guessing you want to know everything that will happen?"
Nodding Blazekit sneezed, "Will it be Leaf Bare soon?" He asked a dry leaf crunching underfoot of a passing clanmate.
"Yes, I suggest you stay out off the lake, long ago a ShadowClan warrior died when the thin ice broke underneath him," Daypelt told them padding up softly.
"But it was a ShadowClan warrior who died, not a ThunderClan one, why should I care about them?" Blazekit asked.
Guardian sighed, "Because they are still cats like us, even If they are from different clans."
"All cats who are going to the gathering meet at the camp entrance!" Breezestar called standing at the camp entrance with Whisperfoot and Leafshine standing beside her.
"We will tell you everything when we get back," Daypelt told Blazekit before turning and leaving for the Gathering Guardian beside her.
----- ----- -----
Guardian and Daypelt sat with their clanmates ready for the Gathering to begin. The first leader to step up was Ashstar, "WindClan has nothing new to report other than the prey is running well even for Leaf-Fall."
Eveningstar stepped up, "Firebranch has retired and is now an elder, other than that this moon has been peaceful."
The clans chanted Firebranch's name, "Firebranch! Firebranch! Firebranch!"
"Dappledsnow has gone to the Nursery with Streamheart's kits," Curlstar announced, "And Ratclaw has become a warrior, and Birdpaw has stopped her warrior training to become a Medicine Cat."
"Dappledsnow! Ratclaw! Birdpaw! Dappledsnow! Ratclaw! Birdpaw! Dappledsnow! Ratclaw! Birdpaw!"
Breezestar nodded and stepped to announce what has happened in the latest moon, "We have three new warriors; Daypelt, Owlhunt and Guardian."
The clans grew silent at the mention of Guardian's name, "Daypelt! Owlhunt! Daypelt! Owlhunt! Daypelt! Owlhunt!" Guardian rolled his eyes at the lack of mention of his name.
Ashstar growled, "How dare you name a warrior Guardian!" He spat at Breezestar, "Have you no shame!"
Breezestar sighed, "It was the warrior's choice, not mine."
"And you let them?"
"Yes."
Curlstar stepped between the two leaders, "What a warrior chooses to be named does not affect anyone but the warrior."
Ashstar snarled at Breezestar and jumped down, "WindClan, let's go," The said clan streamed out of the island and back to camp.
