Chapter Three

"Blazekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Blazepaw. Your mentor will be Guardian. I hope Guardian will pass down all he knows onto you," Breezestar said. Guardian stepped forward hearing a few clanmates yell that it was not fair that he gets an apprentice. "Guardian, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from Whisperfoot, and you have shown yourself to be brave and selfless. You will be the mentor of Blazepaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Blazepaw."

Blazepaw wandered up to Guardian and touched noses with him, "Breezepaw! Toadpaw! Goldenpaw! Ratpaw! Blazepaw! Breezepaw! Toadpaw! Goldenpaw! Ratpaw! Blazepaw!"

Breezepaw puffed up his chest in pride along with all his siblings while Blazepaw stayed by Guardian's side, "Come on," Guardian nudged Blazepaw's side, "Let's go have a look around the territory.

Daypelt smiled jumping up beside Guardian, "Blazepaw, where do you want to go to?" She asked.

"Guardian should choose where we will go- he is my mentor after all," Blazepaw nodded towards Guardian.

Smiling Guardian led the small group out of camp.

Blazepaw jumped towards the mouse but fell onto his side and the mouse ran away squeaking, "You'll get it next time, you have only started hunting," Guardian told him.

"I'll get the next one," Blazepaw reassured himself, "I just need some practice."

Blazepaw crouched back down and stalked towards a small shrew digging in the cold ground. He pounced onto it and caught it by a whisker.

"Well done," Guardian purred, "It was a bit messy, but you are improving greatly."

"Thanks," Blazepaw smiled dragging some dirt and leaves over the small shrew.

"There is a squirrel over there," Guardian gestured with his tail to a small patch of bushes, "Try and catch it."

Nodding Blazepaw fell into another crouch and stalked towards it slowly. He soon came close to it and jumped onto it. He managed to catch it, the kill was still messy though.

"Good work," Guardian picked up the buried shrew, "Let's head back to camp."

Blazepaw picked up his squirrel and carried it back to camp. Soon the pair made it back and found everyone crowding around Breezepaw and congratulating him about his catch.

"Hey, Blazepaw!" Breezepaw smirked striding over, "All you got was a skinny mouse? I expected better, even from a cat like you."

Growling Blazepaw stepped forward but Guardian placed his tail on his shoulders, "Wow, Breezepaw, you are boasting about a simple rabbit?"

"Well, it's better than what you got!" Breezepaw spat flustered from the other apprentice's come back.

Guardian stepped up to Breezepaw, "Breezepaw, I suggest you do not start an unnecessary conflict," He warned.

"Says the person who nearly started a fight at a Gathering," Breezepaw snarled.

Guardian glared down at the young apprentice, "Go back to your adoring fans and leave us alone," He towered over Breezepaw, "And have you forgotten that you are only an apprentice?"

"Sorry," He whimpered as Guardian used his stature to intimidate him, "I'll leave."

"Good."

Blazepaw stood slack-jawed, "How did you do that?" He asked in awe.

"I learnt to deal with mouse brains like him for my entire life, you just need to learn how to knock some sense into them every now and then," Guardian explained.

"Teach me," Blazepaw smiled dropping his prey off in the small prey pile, "Will it snow soon?" He asked looking at the downcast sky.

Daypelt nodded, "Seems like it," She murmured, "Well I'm out, see you later," She nuzzled Guardian before going off to hunt.

"I'll teach you one day, but don't fight him on your own- you'll get in trouble," Guardian warned, "The Gathering is tomorrow, I hope that you'll be coming to it with me."

"Yes! I get to go to Gatherings now!"

----- ----- -----

Daypelt walked to Treeherb, "Are you sure?" She asked a hint of fear in her voice.

"I am sure, when will you tell him?" Treeherb placed her long tail around Daypelt to comfort her, "He is my brother, after all, I want him to know."

Sighing Daypelt looked into Treeherb's eyes, "I don't know how to tell him, I just need some time to figure out how to tell him."

"Just tell him soon, okay?"

"I will."

Treeherb wandered over to a small puddle from the afternoon rain, she gazed into it and gasped.

'Guardians of the forest shall be lost and broken daylight shall fall. Let him follow his heart.'

"Are you okay? You kinda spaced out for a second," Daypelt asked.

"I'm fine, StarClan was just telling me something," Treeherb murmured.

"What did they say?"

"Nothing important."
