Chapter Six.
Chapter Six.
We split up and take two cars. Kyle, Dex, Van, Evan, and me in Van's truck. Then Mitch, Nathan, Kendall, Michael, and Lia in the other car-Kendall snatched up Lia before Kyle and I could.
Dex called shotgun and Kyle's driving Van's truck because he's been to Mitch's cabin before, so he knows were we're going. Then that leaves me, Van, and Evan in the backseat. I'm in the middle, and I have to say that I'm NOT loving it. They've been having a conversation since the moment we got in the trucj. Why don't they just date each other? I mean, they're talking enough! I liked it better when Van was all 'Evan's the ememy'. He's not acting like he's his enemy now. What the hell?
"Hey, Abbs, there's a CD in the glove box, can you put it in?" Van asks me.
I sigh and lean forward between the drivers seat and the passengers seat. I open the glove box and see three things; gum, condoms, and CDs. "Looks like your glove box just so happened to be full of gloves," I crack up laughing and grab the CD. I read the title, My Darkest Days, with a picture of a girl-devil on the front. "Is this-"
"Yep," Van smiles, knowing what I was going to say.
"With that one song that we-"
"Correct," he chuckles. "Are you going to put it in, or not."
"That's what she said," I smirk and getting everybody to laugh. That was the perfect moment for that. Normally, I hate 'that's what she said' jokes, but only because people do it for the stupidest things, it actually has to work.
I put the CD in and turn to the last song and the music starts beating through the speakers. "Are you ready for this?" I ask Van.
Van laughs. "Are you?" he throws back.
"Puh-lease, I was born ready," I smirk. While waiting for the lyrics to start, I turn it up louder.
"Dude, I fuckin' love this song," Dex tells us excitedly.
I smile, getting ready to sing the first line. "Kelly won't kiss my friend Cassandra," I start.
"Jessica won't play ball," Van fills in.
"Mandy won't share her friend Miranda," I sing
"Doesn't anybody live at all," we sing at the same time.
"Amanda won't leave me empty handed, got her number from a bathroom stall.
Brandy just got way too much baggage and that shit just gets old," we sing, having Dex join in.
"But I got a girl, who can put on a show, the dollar decides how far you can go with her," Dex sings by himself.
"She wraps those hands around that pole, she licks those lips and off we go, she takes it off nice and slow, 'cause that's porn star dancin'!" Van and I say in unison, before busting out into a fit of laughter.
Dex sings until Van's part.
"Stacy's gonna save her self for marriage," Van sings.
"But that's just not my style," I jump in. "Hit it Dex!"
"She's got a pair that's nice to stare at," Dex laughs.
"But I want girls gone wild!" We all sing at the same time.
We finish with the chorus before busting out into laughter when it ends. This is great, like it used to be, I mean, it's different because Mitch's seat is being taken up my Evan, but that's not a bad thing.
Then Van gets a text message and he completely tunes everybody out. Who's that important? It brings me to one person, the one person that will forever 'toy' with him. Kendall. I'd bet my left ear that it's Kendall...
After the first five hours, Van's already passed out, resting his head against the window. I don't know why, but this would be the perfect time to do something to him. I just don't know what...
"Hey, Dex, can you see if there's a Sharpie in Van's console," I whisper to him.
Dex lifts up the console and then shakes his head, telling me no. I sigh annoyed.
Where in the hell does he keep his Sharpies? I know that he has them, he's like a Sharpie-holic, he uses them all of the time, when he write me Post-It notes, everything. He's even done homework in Sharpies.
"Pockets!" I whisper yell. His pockets, there's where they are! The day when he wrote on my hand, he pulled one out of his pocket. I unbuckle my seat belt and scoot closer to him. This seems really wrong, but gently fish around in his pockets.
"What are you doing?" Evan asks me suspiciously.
I hold back laughter. "Getting even," I answer simply. I finally find his sharpie and pull it out. I climb over into his lap, straddling him. I take a couple of breaths, trying to keep my laughter.
On Van's forehead, I write 'Strawberry Milk Loving, Superman Hating, Man-Whore' in medium sized letters so that it's perfectly visible. Then I draw a uni-brow connecting his eyebrows, and a curly mustache above his upper lip. I fishing my touching up his face with random Sharpie freckles.
"What are you doing back there?" Kyle asks, looking over his should, seeing me drawing on his face. His jaw drops open. "He's going to kill you, Abby," he chuckles.
I nod, smiling. "I know."
"Hey, Mitch just texted me, they want to stop for breakfast," Dex announces.
"Must be nice to have a cell phone..." I sigh, looking at Van. I pick up his arm and write 'Get Abby a Cell Phone'. I smile, satisfied, starting to get off his lap, but his cell phone vibrates in his pocket. I sit still, frozen, hoping that doesn't wake him up. He adjusts his head against the window, deepening his sleep. I sigh, slowly slipping his Sharpie back in his pocket. I exchange the Sharpie for his cell phone.
On the screen, I see Lia's name on a text message. I get off of his lap, and sit back in my seat. I debate for at least ten minutes, debating whether or not I should open it. He's opened my texts before, hell, he's answered my phone before. Besides, what could Lia have to talk to Van about?
Screw it...just open it, I tell myself as I press down the open button. I read, 'Thanks, Vance(: Just Make sure she doesn't do anything she'll regret...'
What's that mean? Lia was the one that Van was texting earlier? About what? I know that they can't be talking about me. What would they be talking to me about? Damn, I was wrong, it wasn't Kendall. I guess I just lost my left ear...
"Mitch said that there's a Denny's up the road and that's pretty much our last chance at food for a while," Dex says, reading from a text on his phone.
"Alright, tell him we'll stop," Kyle says. "Oh, and Abby, you get to be the lucky one to wake up Vance," he tells me.
I nod, easing Van's phone back into his pocket.
Kyle parks in a parking space and shuts off the engine. He looks back at me and tells me to wake Van up exactly five seconds after everybody gets the chance to evacuate. Van won't be that mad, besides, he totally deserved what I did to him. Him and all of the guys have this coming. Kyle's my next victim, I should write 'virgin' across his forehead and see how much he likes that.
I gently shake Van, saying, "Van, wake up, everybody's inside already."
His eyes slowly flutter open. "Is that snow outside?" he asks.
I nod. "Yep, we're in the middle of Nevada in winter, there's snow," I tell him, holding back laughter. I don't know how long I can restrain myself from laughing, his face is just too funny. Damn I'm good...
"I slept that long?"
I nod. "Come on, let's go, I'm hungry."
We both get out of the truck and I slip on Evan's jacket that he gave me before he went inside for 'safety reasons'. Van follows bahind me inside. It's not very drowed here, so I spot the group right away in the corner at a big booth. As we approach closer, every single one of them starts laughing at Van's face. I bite down on my lip and pretend that I have no clue what they're talking about.
"What's so funny?" Van questions confused.
"And to think he dumped me for that..." I hear Kendall mumble, amused under her breath.
"Correction, he dumped you because you couldn't keep your legs closed, you-" I correct her, starting to get mad, but Van retrains me, giving me this look to just let it go.
"You guys used to go out?" Evan asks, motioning between her and Van.
Kendall nods and starts to say something, but get's cut off by Dex.
"Story time!" Dex says excitedly.
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom," Van says, purposing leaving to avoid 'story time' conversation. The bathroom is right next to our booth and he heads toward it.
"Make sure to clean your face, dude!" Mitch shouts after him.
"I don't really know where to start," Dex says. "Well, I guess we could start with the fact that they were going out for a while, Kendall here cheated on him, they broke up, then they got back together, she cheated on him again. Then by the third time around, she cheated on him again, with our friend, Michael here," Dex finishes, slapping Michael on the back. "Right, Michael?"
Michael gives Dex the death stare. It's amazing how Dex can talk about anything casually. Now everybody at the table is uncomfortable, except Dex, he's just playing with the salt shaker, entertaining himself.
"Abby!" I hear Van yell angrily from the bathroom.
Everybody at the table laughs.
"Told you he was going to kill you," Kyle chuckles.
"Abby, get your ass in here!" Van yells.
"I can't go in the mens bathroom, I'm a girl!" I remind him, laughing.
"No you aren't, you're just guy with boobs," Kendall smirks.
"And you're just a-"
"Abby, go help Vance before you do something stupid," Kyle urges me.
Damn, will I ever get to finish saying what I want to say to this bitch without interruption.
Dex digs for something in his pocket and pulls out a small bottle of Germ-X. "Here, it gets Sharpie off really good," he informs, tossing the bottle to me. Where in the hell does he get this shit? He's so...random and out there...I can't help, but love it though.
I roll my eyes and walk off to the boys bathroom. I peek my head in and see Van using paper towels to get the Sharpie off of his face. It's a complete fail.
"I fuckin' hate you," Van says, trying to be serious, but even he knows it's funny.
I laugh and walk in. "I know. Want some help?" I ask, holding up the bottle of Germ-X. I sit on the counter of the long row of sinks and get some paper towels. I squirt some onto the paper towel and wait for him to get closer so I can wipe it off of his face.
"What the hell is Germ-X going to do?" Van asks seriously.
I shrug. "Dex says it works."
He chuckles. "Yeah, Abbs, Dex also put your phone into a bowl of rice," he reminds me. "So what makes you think that I should try this?"
I laugh. "Yeah, that's true, but unless you want to walk around for a couple days with that on your face, you'll try it," I explain, pulling him by his shirt to come closer, against his will.
"It'll make me smell funny," he tells me.
"You already smell funny," I joke. "Besides, at least it'll make your face X-ed of Germs."
He chuckles, finally letting me wipe the Germ-X on his face.
"Thanks, by the way," I start. "For being nice to Evan."
Van shrugs. "He's not that bad, I guess." He's quiet for a couple minutes while I rub off the Sharpie from his face, unusually quiet. "Can I talk to you about something serious?" He questions.
"Oh boy...here we go. What now?" I sigh. The last time Van wanted to 'talk about something serious', it was code for 'my dad's screwing your mom'. I just didn't catch on.
"It's about Evan...and this weekend," Van starts. Right off the bat I can tell this is serious because he didn't call Evan, Kevin. "Just...don't...give in, okay?" he replies.
My forehead scrunches in confusion. "Give in to what?"
"Lia talked to me earlier..."
"About what?" I question. I'm not going to tell him that I read his text message from her, but if he explains it to me, I'll actually know what they were talking about.
"About you and Evan...this weekend," he answers quietly, hinting at something. "Just...make him beg for it."
I immediately catch on to what he's saying. Lia told him that I was thinking-key word; thinking, about sleeping with Evan this weekend. It wasn't even a 'for sure' thing. I was planning on seeing how things went. I'm not one of those girls that plans to lose their virginity the perfect way, with the perfect guy. If it happens, it happens.
"That's really none of your business, Van," I tell him calmly, avoiding a fight.
"I know, I'm not trying to get into your business, but c'mon, if Lia had to tell me that because she's worried; something's wrong. I'm just telling you that if he likes you as much as he claims he does, he'll wait until you're ready for that...which you aren't"
"Thanks, dad," I joke.
Van smiles. "I'm serious. You just...aren't one of those girls."
I laugh. "You mean a Kendall?"
"Well...for lack of a better word, yes, a Kendall. You respect yourself too much," he says awkwardly. "I think you should just wait...for at least another...ten years..." he nods, thinking that's the perfect amount of time.
"So, because I'm not a Kendall, I can't have sex?" I question, confused. "For ten years?"
"I'm so glad you get it because I wasn't sure if I was being very clear," he sighs.
"No, I don't," I correct. "You have sex all the time, and I can't?"
Van laughs. "You've said it yourself, I'm a whore."
I laugh. "Yes you are, but even the biggest of whores can change."
Van shakes his head. "I'm in this for life, babe. I get it from my dad, it's practically hereditary."
"Well, then...don't ever knock a girl up."
He laughs. "I'll make you a deal."
"Oooh, a bet," I say, interested. "Okay, lets hear it."
Van leans in closer, putting his hands on counter, blocking me with his arms. "I will hold out for as long as you do. If I crack first, I will...streak through the entire school, as in naked-"
"After bathing in chocolate milk?" I add.
He chuckles. "If that's what you want."
"Then it's a deal," I state, holding out my hand and we both shake on it. "This will be so easy," I grin. "Your ass is goin' down, Van Taylor."
He furrows his eyes. "What makes you so sure of that?"
I laugh mockingly. "Vanny, I've had practice saying no for how many years? How many times have you said no?" I remind him, wiping off the last of the Sharpie from his face.
Van leans in really close, as if to kiss me and for some reason, I don't back up or push him away. He's so close that I can smell the Germ-X on his face, it doesn't smell that bad.
"If I remember correctly," Van starts. "I said no to you," he whispers, smiling devilishly before opening the bathroom door to leave.
You said no to me, because you wanted to say yes, to Kendall.
I shrug off this mopey feeling, and jump on Van's back, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"Damn, have you had your Tyson today?" Van teases, supporting my legs up with his arms, locking me in place.
I laugh, then look at Evan and feel completely bad. I think that I know how Kendall felt when she saw me and Van flirting. Technically, weren't flirting, we were just...joking, or maybe a combination. We were Flirking. Actually, I think that sounds worse than flirting...
"They flirt all the time," I hear Kendall whisper to Evan.
Van puts me down and slides into the booth, I slide in next.
"It's not flirting, Kendall," Van states. "It's called having a laugh with the opposite sex, something you couldn't get over," he explains, angrily. "Besides, it's not like I'm screwing your best friend, is it?" When she looks too shocked to reply so he nods, letting her know that he's right. "That's what I thought. The next time you want to be a bitch, try not to make yourself look stupid," he finishes.
I'm screwed...
If Van doesn't have Kendall to... 'lean on' him, during this bet, then he might actually stand a chance at this. I know that Van's not capable of holding out that long, but still...I think that my chances of winnng just dropped.
