Chapter 5

"What happened to your note-taking?"

"Why should you care, Roman?" Virgil asked, not looking up from his script. "Actually, don't answer that, I'm trying to memorise my lines."

Roman sighed and put his hands in his pockets. "I'm trying to be civil here, Virgil."

"And I'm trying to ignore you. Go away." Roman didn't listen.

"You know we've got to be at least civil to each other, seeing as we're acting opposite each other."

"What's your point, Roman? We're both pretty decent actors, we can make people believe we're 'falling in love' on stage." Virgil said, etching quotation marks with his fingers.

"No one's that good of an actor."

"I don't know. You were that good when you were 16." Virgil closed his script and stood up. "Stay out of my business, Sir Sing-A-Lot."

"No, you are not just going to walk away without answering my question."

Virgil sighed and turned back around to face Roman. "I published them, Roman. Didn't sell well but I don't care. I still published them. Am I allowed to go now, Mr Winston?"

Roman glared at Virgil, who just smirked and turned on his heel and left.

"Hello, Ro!"

"Jesus fucking Christ, Remus what are you doing here?"

"I kinda burned the house down." Remus' candid attitude had not changed since they were kids. "So we're looking for a place to stay."

"We?"

"Yeah. Me and Jan."

"You two are still together?"

"Yep. Jan's trying to find a decent book-"

"No I'm not, Rem." Janus said, appearing out of apparently nowhere. "Hi Roman. Sorry about Rem."

"It's fine, I've had to live with him my whole childhood. Look, I'd really like to help you find a place but my flat's only big enough for me."

"It's okay. Rem didn't actually burn the house down. Just the oven. And the cooker. And most of the kitchen. But we're getting it repaired."

"I already said I was sorry, Jan." Remus whined.

"Yeah, I know. I was there." Janus sighed and turned back to Roman. "Rem just wanted an excuse to see you. So he... exaggerated the truth."

"Aw, did you want to see your big brother, Re?"

"No." Remus said, crossing his arms like a little kid. "And we're the same age."

"If you wanted to see me so bad, you could've just texted me." Roman said.

"I didn't want to see you!" Roman laughed at Remus' protests. "So? Spill the beans! What part did you get?" Just like when they were kids, Remus' mood changed at lightning speed.

"I got the main role."

"Love interest!" Virgil called as he exited the building. Janus and Remus looked from Virgil walking away to Roman.

"You two are acting together?!" They said at the same time.

"Yeah."

"Oh, Roman. I am so sorry." Janus said as Remus laughed.

"It's fine. We'll work through it."

"Will you, though?" Remus asked, trying to catch his breath from laughing so much. "Last time you tried working it out, it kinda backfired, didn't it?"

"Yeah, I don't need reminding, Re." Roman snapped.

"So, which part did you get?" Janus asked, probably stopping a sibling squabble. "Love interest or main role?"

"Main role." Roman said defensively.

"Okay, you don't need to be so defensive about it." Janus said. "I think me and Rem had better go. Before we miss the train."

"So you took a train to London from... where?"

"Manchester."

"From Manchester... for a day trip? Just to see me."

"More or less, yeah."

"Why?"

Janus shrugged. "The whim of Rem, I guess."

"Yeah but... you don't have to go along with it."

"My dad might be getting out of prison soon." Janus said. "I want to be as far away from him as I can when he does. Hence the move to Manchester and also," Janus waved his hand around, "this."

"Hey, you don't know that he's going to walk free."

"It's been ten years, Rem." Janus said, hugging his arms. "He's at least getting another trial." He looked at Roman. "Look, sorry about all this. You probably don't need to hear it. Rem, let's go."

"Okay. Bye Ro." Remus still managed to have a cheery persona, at least when he was bidding fair-well to his brother.

"Um, bye. And good look with the whole trial thing."

Janus smiled a small smile. "Thanks. Good luck with the whole Virgil thing."

"Yeah, thanks. Bye."

Wow, Writer's Block at the fifth chapter. That must be a record. And you can tell it's getting bad when I've brought in Demus filler for NO APPARENT REASON!
Bye,
Blaize
