Chapter III: A Party of Olympic Proportions

What seemed like hours later, but very well may not have been, the trio were on Mount Olympus, entering through yet another set of gates... or at least they tried. Ares, in all his blood-covered glory, was the bouncer, oddly enough, and only greeted them by way of asking "Names, ladies?"

Adrienna smirked. "Ares, we're cousins, you damn well know who the hell I am," she snapped before Hermes took over the conversation.

"Hey, Ares, my man; how's Aphrodite?" he asked, pretending to be pally with the war god in an effort to get him to let them in. "Why not just go ahead and let us in? You remember Desdemona and Adrienna, right? The daughters of Thanatos and Hades?"

Ares smirked. "Yeah, yeah; why are they here? I don't see them on the list-"

Hermes took the list from Ares and scanned it. "I think you need to get your eyesight checked there, my friend. I can see their names here, clear as day," he said while looking over at Ares. "And of course you know Marcellus... or at least you should, I would hope."

Ares looked over Marcellus for a moment. "Obviously I know my own son. Go on in, kid," he said as he shoved his son past the gates.

Marcellus stumbled past the gates before righting himself and brushing himself off, heading into the fray. In a way, he thought, a party was like a war. For one thing, there were a lot of people in attendance, as well as a few people scrapping - see Peleus and Thetis' wedding party for a great example of this - and everyone was in very close quarters.

The sound of Adrienna tearing Ares a new one faded into the distance as Marcellus kept moving forward. Due to being Ares' son, people were either intimidated by him or wanting to pinch his cheeks - with the older crowd, the grabbing for his cheeks was relentless. He ducked left and right and eventually made it to a safe spot.

Not too long after, Desdemona and Adrienna were dancing next to Marcellus, laughing and having a good time. Marcellus looked over at the duo and quirked an eyebrow.

"So how exactly did you get past my dad?" he asked out of curiosity.

"Ohhhh nothing," Adrienna said, making a halo motion with her pointer finger over her head. "I just told him that the next time there's a war, I will make absolutely sure that every single soul gets tossed into Tartarus." She smirked and looked down at her nails as if inspecting them. "I mean, I would obviously not do that, but the look on his face was too comical to pass up the opportunity."

Desdemona smirked and shook her head. "Why are you two like this?"

Marcellus raised a brow. "Like what?" he asked. To say he was confused was the understatement of the millennium.

Desdemona kept her smirk on while responding. "So brash and spontaneous. Not that that's a bad thing, but I find it interesting."

Adrienna chuckled. "Thanks, Des," she said before she turned on her heel to go get some drinks from the bar.

A moment later, Zeus came up to Desdemona and Marcellus. "How are you two doing?" he asked before focusing on Adrienna. "Pardon my intrusion, dear niece, but it took you long enough to get here. I believe that that entitles me to the price of one dance."

Adrienna looked into her uncle's eyes with an incredulous expression. "You do, do you? Well, Uncle dearest, I believe that coming here simply entitles me to being able to enjoy myself without being bombarded by my family. But seeing as certain people can't keep their private lives as such, that's nigh on impossible."

Zeus' facial expression went through several different changes before finally settling on an open-mouthed shocked face, which Adrienna took a moment to giggle at.

"Oh, Uncle... You do know how to entertain. But let's be honest, shall we? I'd rather dance with an extremely drunk Dionysus or have my soul rent from my body by Thanatos' own sword than ever join you on the dance floor," she continued, only stopping to reach a hand out and gently close his mouth for him.

"Let me pick that up for you, Uncle," she said as she sauntered away into the party, looking away for a moment before accidentally bumping into someone. Looking up, she gasped, seeing her aunt Hera, who was related to her through not only her father but her uncles as well. Why a man would marry his own sister, she knew not, but it wasn't her job to judge the living. She'd reserve that special treatment for the dead.

"Aunt Hera, I'm so sorry-!" she began apologizing before the older woman raised a hand, which she knew meant that she was to be quiet. After all, you don't stand before the Queen of the gods and not obey her commands, however silent.

"It is alright, dear niece. I know you did not mean it, but let's not let it happen again, hmm?"

Adrienna nodded and curtsied to her aunt. "Of course, Aunt Hera... I mean, Your Majesty." This elicited a smile from her aunt.

"I saw what happened The next time he dares to tell you that you owe him anything simply for showing up, you have my permission to give him what he deserves."

Adrienna looked at her aunt with a cocked head and a curious expression painted on her face. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?"

Hera smiled. "That I'm giving you permission to kick his ass the next time he crosses your boundaries? Absolutely." She smiled and led Adrienna further into the party. Once they were deep enough that Zeus could no longer see them, Hera turned to her. "Why not go and circulate the party, dear? Leave your uncle Zeus to me."

Adrienna nodded and thanked her aunt, walking further into the fray, Desdemona catching up to her shortly after.

"I thought you were going to cover for Marcellus. We were waiting for you to talk to Zeus and get back to us."

Adrienna shrugged. "I was going to cover for him, but I got caught between a rock and a hard place." She then looked at her friend with a determined expression. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have an open bar to get to." She chuckled and walked away from her friend.

As Adrienna walked away, she heard her name being called out by none other than Marcellus. She just chuckled again and sidled up to the bar, where Dionysus was mixing drinks for everyone.

"Well, well, well, if it ain't my favorite future goddess of the dead," he said with a Cheshire grin. "What brings you to my bar counter, love? Need a little liquid courage? Maybe something strong?"

Dionysus began making her a cocktail, smirking as he did so. When he set it in front of her, she smiled, even as he asked "What exactly is this drink for? I've known you since you were a wee lass and you never once asked for anything like this."

"That's because I was younger and stupider, Dionysus. Let me put it this way; this drink is the start of a great night." Adrienna smiled a bit wickedly.

Dionysus shrugged. "You got me there, love. Any night is great where alcohol is involved, but whatever you plan to do after this drink is your business."

Adrienna smirked. "Says the god of ritual madness. And trust me, I'll be paying tribute to that at the expense of my dear Uncle Zeus. He wants a dance, I will damn well give him one." She took a sip of her drink, then another, then another, until it was all gone. Only then did she walk over to her uncle and tap him on the shoulder.

"Oh, dear Uncle... I believe I 'owed you' a dance? To make things a little bit easier for you, I just had a strong drink, courtesy of Dionysus."

Zeus grinned. "Took you long enough to say yes. Now, shall we?"

Adrienna grinned back at her uncle. "Of course, Uncle. But I'd like to make a song request to Apollo if you don't mind," she said, batting her eyes at her uncle.

Zeus shrugged. "Alright. I'll make sure the dance floor is cleared."

Adrienna simply smirked. "Excellent. I'll see you there in a minute." She smiled and went over to Marcellus, who just cocked a brow and looked at her with a quizzical expression. This elicited a wicked grin from her.

"What are you planning, Adrienna?" he asked. "I know Grandpa said you owed him a dance, but... wait, you're not going to do it, are you?"

Adrienna nodded triumphantly. "You bet your ass I'm gonna do it. He wants a dance? I'll dance with him." She then walked through the crowd of people gathered around the dance floor and whispered her song request in Apollo's ear as she smiled at Zeus.

When she walked over, he looked frightened. Good, she thought. He's already afraid. That's what he gets for assuming shit.

When she came up to him, he was ready, even though it didn't feel like it to him. A sharp grin graced her features as she walked up to him.

"Ready?" she asked him as she held out her arm to him and the music began to play.

Zeus gave her a weak nod, not realizing exactly which song she'd picked until it was too late. "Wh-What is this? What have you done, Adrienna!?" he asked as the pair spun around and around, the Cheshire grin Dionysus had worn earlier coming across her features, along with a hauntingly reddish glow to her eyes.

"Welcome, Uncle, to the Danse Macabre. Let's hope you can keep up."

Zeus was panicking at this point, his heart rate on the verge of skyrocketing. "P-Poseidon! Hera!" he yelled at his siblings, hoping to garner some pity or at least get some help. No one stepped up, however; everyone knew by now that Zeus had pissed her off too much for anyone to intervene.

"Gee, Uncle, you look sick. Can't last another... let's see... six minutes?" Adrienna asked as she smiled and kept dancing with him.

Zeus shook his head. "No, no I'm fine. But can we stop dancing so fast? Can we stop spinning?"

Adrienna simply laughed at her uncle's idiotic request. "Haha- no. Not a chance, Casanova. Maybe don't assume things and you wouldn't be caught in a game of cat and mouse." She then leaned in to whisper in his ear. "By the way... I'm the cat."

Another couple of minutes came and went, and eventually, Zeus could keep a clear enough head that he could just barely make out Hades and Thanatos walking into the party and shuffling through the crowd to the front. "Hades! Hades, help!" he cried out to his brother, who just stood there with Thanatos, both dressed in their best clothes, and watched the future goddess of the dead humiliate the king.

Persephone, who was there as well since it was only early September, walked through the audience to her husband, smiling. "Well, look who finally showed up."

Hades raised a brow and chuckled. "Are you kidding? I wouldn't have missed a chance to see a moment like this. It's not every day that you get to see my brother put in his place, after all." He turned back to the show. "Hang in there, brother!" he called out to Zeus. "Five more minutes!"

Thanatos turned to his boss and looked at him. "I don't think I have ever seen her this pissed off. She's not exactly a summer rose at the best of times, but great Gaia, this is something else.

Hades nodded. "Indeed. But Thanatos... Do you recognize that song? It's very... distinct."

Thanatos looked at Hades while listening to the song. "Oh, dear." Then he calmed a little. "What do we do, Your Majesty?"

Hades simply looked at the dancing pair, then to Thanatos, then back to his brother and daughter. "We wait. Zeus has no doubt crossed a line that is nearly impossible to cross unless you tell my daughter to do something she absolutely does not want to do, without being extremely specific." He looked over at Persephone. "Dearest, what exactly happened?"

Persephone smiled, chuckling at their daughter's interesting method of torture. "Well, my love, as I understand it, Zeus told Adrienna that she owed him a dance, and she got mad enough to give him exactly what he wanted. He didn't specify what music he wanted to dance to, after all."

Thanatos chuckled as well. "Well, to be fair, Your Highnesses, you two, as well as almost every god here, have been trying to get him to smarten up for ages now if I am not mistaken. Perhaps this is just the wake-up call he needs."

Hades shook his head. "If I know my brother, he'll acknowledge that he was an ass for about a week before going back to his entitled behavior." He rolled his eyes before hearing an "Excuse me" coming from behind him and moving closer to his wife.

Desdemona squeezed through the gap between her father and Hades, standing beside her father. "What did I... miss? Is she doing what I think she's doing?" she asked as she watched Adrienna spinning her uncle around on the dance floor.

Hades simply looked at Desdemona and nodded. "Yes; yes she is. And I have never been prouder."

Desdemona watched the scene, listening to the tempo. "I will admit that I heard the music, but I didn't think that she was actually going through with it..."

Hades nodded again and smiled. "And that, dear friends, is why no one messed with my daughter. The day she takes over is the day that my brother will likely be cowering in fear. And I at least know he won't be doing anything like that to her from now on."

Thanatos nodded in agreement. "I will agree to that. I honestly wouldn't mind working for her for a little while before retiring myself, but regardless of that, it's not like she'll be a dictator. And besides, she'll have Desdemona by her side."

Desdemona smiled at her father. "You guys aren't retiring right away, are you?" She had to admit, she was a bit worried that she was going to have all of her father's responsibilities suddenly thrust on her.

Hades shook his head. "No, not right away, but seeing how Adrienna handles her uncle, that's honestly enough for me." He smiled and kept watching the scene. Under normal circumstances, if Hades cared to intervene, he'd pray to Gaia to help his brother, though the man certainly deserved it from what Hades could tell.

This definitely is an interesting party, he thought. I can see why Zeus wanted Adrienna and Desdemona to come.

At this point, Zeus was feeling a mixture of fear mixed with an adrenaline rush.
