PART 3: red;
The first time when Mal saw Evie with someone she felt extremely weird for some reason.
Evie was such a sweet person that she couldn't imagine her having any personal or sexual life. She just couldn't see it, though Evie was an attractive woman. Mal couldn't deny her beautiful features and so the rest of the world. So yeah, she could imagine Evie having a lot of admirers.
When she saw Evie with someone for the first time, she felt extremely unsettled.
Mal was coming home late one Friday night after going out with some of her colleagues. It almost became a ritual to go out with them every Friday night. That created a strong bond between all of them and made them a great team. The blond woman didn't feel like going out but did anyway and Uma made sure that she have a great time. It was common knowledge now that she was going through a rough time after her break-up.
Uma had sat down next to her at the bar with the words:
"We all know what are you going through so we will make sure to have a great time tonight," Mal enjoyed herself.
She was slightly intoxicated when she walked out of the elevator at 2 am and strumbled down the corridor to her apartment. Her green eyes fixated on the two figures down the hall next to her front door. It didn't take long for Mal to recognize that one of them was Evie; with her slender figure and long dark hair.
The man, however, she didn't recognize. He was tall and strong with long blond hair. He had a strong jawline and a dimpled chin. He gave Evie a bright smile and leaned on his left arm on the door, trapping Evie on her door frame. The dark-haired woman returned his smile and it didn't take them long to connect their mouths in a heated kiss.
Mal stared shamelessly at their moving mouths, with Evie's red lips leaving smudged marks on his lips. She felt her heart leaping to her throat. That weird tension appeared again in her stomach and all around her. She blamed it on the alcohol.
Soon enough the blond woman walked to her door which was relevantly close to Evie's and jungled her keys startling the embraced couple next to her. She had a hard time putting the key in the lock, feeling burning on the back of her neck.
I bet he doesn't have a hard time putting it in she thought.
"Hi, Mal!" greeted Evie.
"Oh, hey," said Mal back and looked at the couple. Her eyes fell on him first, with his almost black eyes and the red lipstick around his lips. The man looked a little shaken maybe from the sound of her keys or maybe from Evie's kiss.
Then she gazed at the other woman. Evie had a dopy smile on her face; her eyes clouded from alcohol as well. She was wearing a dark blue dress that emphasized her body in all the right places.
Mal's green eyes shifted to dark red lips and she felt the tension and heaviness bringing her back to reality. She tried to unlock her door again. A low "meow" was heard from the other side.
"Mal, this is Gil," said Evie breaking the tension with her sweet voice. She introduced them and Mal shook his strong hand.
"Nice to meet you," Gil smiled. Even though he was all big and strong, Mal could notice that he was not one of these big threatening men. He looked like a nice person.
The three of them stood awkwardly in the corridor as a million thoughts were flying through Mal's mind. She was just enough drunk not to remember any of them or if they even made sense. Finally, she opened her front door glad to end this weird moment.
Ben emerged rubbing his head on the door. He greeted them with a sweet meow and walked to Evie to continue rubbing his fluffy body on her legs.
"Aw, hello baby," she said leaning down to pet him.
"Such a cute cat," spoke Gil and crouched to pet Ben as well.
When Ben felt proud enough of the attention he got, he walked back to Mal's apartment waiting to be fed.
"It was nice meeting you Gil," said Mal and smiled their way. Evie was looking at her with hazy eyes and biting her bottom lip before smiling.
"Likewise,"
"Well have great night guys," Mal was closing the door.
"Good night," replied Evie.
Mal walked lazily in her dark apartment lightning only the lamp above her sink. She fed Ben and went for a shower. After that, she felt sobered up and after putting on some clothes, she walked to the balcony. Her cat followed close behind her.
The cool breeze hit her still-warm skin from the shower. She shivered and lit up a cigarette. The blond-haired woman leaned on the railing as Ben sat next to her bare legs. She was wearing a big white t-shirt and shorts.
Mal felt a shift in the air around and was sure someone was coming her way. For some reason, she hoped it wasn't that Gil guy, because that would be creepy and freak her out.
"Hey there neighbor, you are still up? It's almost 5 am," Mal felt pleased upon hearing Evie's hoarse voice. She let some smoke out of her mouth when Evie walked next to her and looked at her. The taller woman was no longer wearing a fancy dress and her lips were no longer red. Evie was wearing a black silk robe that wasn't tightened. Mal's wondering eyes shamelessly stared. This time the dark-haired smirked at the other woman's reaction.
Ben started moving around Evie's legs again as she leaned closer to Mal on the railing. They didn't speak after that, both enjoying the quiet night.
Later when Mal was brushing her teeth she found herself thinking about red lips and long necks.
