Babysitting sucks

"'We write by the light of every story we have ever read.'"-Richard Peck

Baby sitting sucks. I can't exactly remember how I got dragged into into it on a Monday night, one I could be spending with my friends. I think it went something like mum completely forgetting she had a dinner thing with some friends and it was too late to get a nanny, therefore she turned to me. Well, actually, she turned to Kieran first who of course already had plans. Well I'd like to see these said 'plans' that he banged on about all through dinner.

As I was clearing up the dishes, mum slowly made her way towards me. Not a good sign. Usually when mum wanted something, she slowly prowled towards her victim like a lion would a helpless Gazelle.

Well I'm the Gazelle in this situation and mums the evil lion.

"Don't look at me like that." I groaned. "Stop it."

Mum rolled her eyes which are sky blue like mine. "Looking at you like what?"
I gently pushed past her to the dishwasher. "Like that, with those eyes. It freaks me out."

Mum casually rested her elbows on the island counter and rested her face in her palms. "Can I ask you a favour?"

I didn't look up from then dishwasher. "Go ahead, you'll tell me anyways."
Now your probably wondering how could I talk to my mum like this and get away with it. I don't. I know what she is about ask me I won't like, therefore take my chances speaking back to her, knowing I'm getting a punishment either way.

Get what I mean?

Now I'm sat on my living room floor, my back leant against the front of the sofa, praying that by watching Disney movies all night, Molly will fall asleep and I can go to sleep.

Molly is currently sprawled along me like a cat, yawning now and then but never falling asleep. Why won't she sleep?! Do I need to give her pills?

My mouth is already salivating at the thought of snuggling under my bed covers and watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians until I fall asleep.

I live a cool life.

I watch as Ariel begins brushing her hair with a fork like the clueless mermaid she is, and say, "Hey Moll, aren't you getting tired?"
Molly doesn't even stir. "Nope."
"Well, wouldn't you much prefer to watch the end in your bed?"
"Not really."

I sigh. How can a four year old be so sassy? Mum says I was just like that when I was her age.

Pfffff. As if.

A knock on the door sends Molly jumping, her head colliding with my chin.

"Relax," I groan, pushing her off me. "It's just mummy's friend dropping off her purse she left at work."

Mum had texted me about twenty minutes ago telling me I should expect her friend around soon. I kinda freaked out since I was in my mermaid onesie for the theme of the movie, so quickly changed into a pair of simple grey leggings and a white t-shirt. My hair is tied into a messy bun and I wear my favourite Star Wars slippers. I probably look like a hot mess. Actually, replace the word hot with ugly. I never really understood that saying anyways.

I walk into the hall and straight to the door, fumbling with the house keys as I do so. When I finally find the right one, I unlock the door.

No! No, no, no, no, you've got to be kidding me!

"Brecken?" I yell in disbelief.

Brecken, who had been casually leaning again my white pillar, straightened, looking just as shocked as me actually.

"Wait," he said, looking around my street then back at me. "You're Tammy's daughter?"

"You're my mums friend?" I shriek.
Brecken looks at me as if I'm the most stupid person he's ever met. "No idiot, my mum is. She asked if I'd drop this off for a friend."

I laugh sharply. "Little mummy's boy, I see."
Brecken scowls. Just then, Molly decides to make an appearance. I groan when she stiffens with shyness and quickly hides behind my legs. When I turn back to he door, Brecken is smiling smugly. "Babysitting, I see? Mummy's girl."

I grind my teeth together and use all my will power not to slam the door right into his perfect face. I'd love to see his reaction then.
"Oh shut up and give me my mums purse." I say, putting out my hand.
Brecken pulls out my mums grey purse from behind his back and hands it to me.

"Huh, that was easier than I thought." I say out loud, moving to shut the door.
Brecken's foot is suddenly there, blocking it. "Aren't you going to invite me in like the humble person you are?"

I resist the urge to puke and put on a smile. "Out of the goodness of my heart," I start and Brecken begins to grin. "I shall protect my sister by slamming the door in your face."

Brecken's smile drops and he scowls again.
I flick his chin. "Stop it, it makes you look constipated."

The last thing I saw was Brecken's outraged face before I slammed the door finally and turned back to the living room to finish the rest of the movie, a goofy smile drawn across my face.
