Chapter 9

"Relax you're doing fine."

"I-I'm not very good at this."

They were halfway through the meal and Jane had hardly said a word it was Lisbon who did all the talking.

She laughs at his nervousness. To Jane it sounded like tiny bells.

"You know I've never seen you this way before. Usually you're so comfortable with charming women but here you are with me all nervous and uncertain."

He scratches the back of his head and looks away.

"Yeah well that was an act, this is for real."

For a brief moment she looks surprised but quickly covers it with a smile.

"So I've done most of the talking, how about you bring up the next topic."

"Uh..."

"Alright, what was it like to live with the circus?"

"These are personal questions..."

" How about we do a Q&A? I ask a question, you answer, then you-"

"I know how it goes. Me first! Why did you say yes when I asked you out?"

She roles her eyes at him.

"So really I answer 'personal' questions and you avoid them completely.-Jane beams at her- but to answer your question I said yes because I wanted this."

Now he looks confused.

"You wanted this?"

"Oh no it's my turn remember? Answer me this: why did you ask me out in the first place?"

"... I thought we were okay with only you answering the personal questions."

"Well Jane you take everything personal so that's virtually impossible."

Jane taps on the table to distract himself.

"This is uncomfortable let's do something else."

She groans and slumps a little in the chair, her hair framing her face. He couldn't help but observe her. Ivory skin, emerald eyes, long dark hair. She really is a princess, his princess and right now he's ruining their first date.

"I'm sorry."

She looks up at him a little surprised.

"I don't deserve you and-"

"Jane I waited ten years for you so don't you dare bail out on me."

Now it's his turn to be surprised.

"...what?"

She leans across the table.

"All that you've ever done was shut me out so I waited for you. This last week I toyed with the idea of getting you to ask me out. So I dared you and you took the challenge. Please Jane don't shut me out again."

So what do you say!? Will he run like he always does or will he man up?

Sorry but I need to be mentally prepared for tonight's episode. (Jane gets kidnapped by Kirkland!)
