Chapter 3
I couldn't handle it. I was coming off a fight with my brother. I couldn't stand being hit on. Sure, I wanted to act like I was older then I was, but I couldn't. My mind was too fragile. Martin grabbed my waist and pulled me to him. I snapped awake and tried to pull away from him, but he didn't budge, didn't even look like he noticed me struggling against him. I could feel tears building in my eyes. I couldn't let this happen to me. I couldn't become a victim. I wouldn't become a victim. I saw the dresser. Before I knew what I was doing, I threw it at him by only thinking about it. It took us both by surprise. He let me go, and I stumbled ungracefully to the ground.
He quickly looked over to defend himself from a fellow pack member. I was shaking, I could feel my will breaking. I could hear his disturbing thoughts. I could feel his panic. The dams on my mind were breaking. I shook the thoughts from my head.
"No." I muttered.
Martin didn't notice, his mind was still on the defensive, ready to run from whoever had to be coming. I couldn't have possibly moved the dresser. A girl. A defenseless girl. He touched me when he was sure there was no one coming.
The floorboards started shaking around me.
"What the-" he was cut off by my bed hitting him away from me. I closed my eyes. The whole house was shaking like an earthquake was hitting. I felt his eyes on me. I could see myself through his eyes. He was scared of the little girl, shaking on the ground muttering to herself.
I started hitting my head, trying to jolt the images out. I felt his scream get cut off. I heard my name echoing. It was my brother thinking my name. Conner was coming for me. He was going to save me from this. Conner ran into the room. He wrapped his arms around me and whispered something in my ear. I couldn't register what was said before passing out.
I woke up in my room. Conner was sleeping beside me.
I shuffled my way to the edge of the bed and got up.
"Casey." I froze and looked back at him. He had a tired smile. "You should get your rest."
I shook my head, "I'm not sleepy anymore."
He nodded, "I want you to stay in bed. Your mind needs to rest." I looked down. "You had an episode. No one was hurt and no one knows it was you." I sighed. "You're worried about him getting to you again, right?" I nodded, "I took care of him already." I winced. He shook his head, "He's not dead, however much he would deserve it. He was sent back to The City." I nodded.
He sat up and stretched. He got out of bed and left my room. "Rest Casey."
I nodded and tucked myself in.
The City is the place where supernatural creatures can live in peace without fear of human discovery. No killing of any kind was tolerated. The seers would lock you up when you had any real intention of killing someone. Much like the movie Minority Report. Humans are safe in that city, if they could find it. All Connor told me was that there was some type of portal you had to summon and walk through to get to the city.
I closed my eyes, concentrating. No one in the house was talking about me. They were acting as though nothing happened. To them, Martin just moved out. He got to go to the city. They wouldn't know what he tried to do to me.
My cell phone rang. I groaned and reached over for it.
<Becky>
I rolled my eyes. I wasn't even gone for a day.
"Hey Beck."
"Where have you been?"
"In bed. I think I'm coming down with something."
She sighed, "That's what Grayson said."
I chuckled, "Then why'd you ask?"
"I heard you two had a bit of a fight. I just wanted to check up."
I sighed, "I'll be fine. We'll work it out."
She sighed my name.
"If you don't want to be with him anymore, just tell him. You don't want to get stuck in a relationship."
I sighed, "Becky, its fine. We're fine. There's no need to worry about me."
"Alright." She paused, "Want me to bring over your homework?"
"Umm..." I got out of bed. "I'll ask if you can come over for a few hours."
"Alright."
"Mr. Aldine announced partners today."
"We're together?"
"Not exactly."
"Then what?"
I knocked on Conner's door. I heard him fussing with something in there.
"It's you, me and Jason."
Conner opened the door.
"Jason Harrington?"
"Yes." My jaw dropped and a smile lit my face.
"What Casey?" I looked over at Conner.
"Oh! One sec Becky." I put the phone to my chest, "Can Becky come over for a few hours for homework stuff?"
Conner nodded, "Gone by 7." Then he shut the door.
I nodded and brought the phone to my ear, "Alright. Come over and we'll talk."
"'kay on my way."
I skipped to my room and threw my phone on the bed. I quickly got dressed into some jeans and a black spaghetti strap top. I threw my hair into a bun then ran downstairs when I heard the doorbell.
Mason answered the door. Becky and I made eye contact. She has a huge crush on Mason. So, I quickly turned and went back up the stairs as quietly as I could. Mason would stay with her until I showed up.
"Casey!" He hollered.
I leaned down the stairs, spying on them as they sat in the living room.
"What are you doing?"
I was startled and lost my balance. Luckily, Grayson didn't let me fall down the stairs. A relieved sigh escaped my lips.
"Thanks."
He nodded and pulled me up to him. He didn't let me go.
"What?"
"What were you doing?" he asked.
"Spying."
He looked down the stairs and then gave me a look.
"He doesn't like her. It's a one way attraction."
"She's a virgin."
He looked back down the stairs, then back at me.
"She's strictly do-able."
I smacked his arm, "hey, she's my friend."
He nodded, "Hanging out with girls like that only makes you more attractive in comparison."
"Sure she's a little chubby-"
He raised an eyebrow at me, "A little?" I eyed him suspiciously. "What?"
"Why are you being sorta nice to me?"
He shrugged, "Wouldn't I have to be nice to give this a real shot?"
"You want to give it a real shot with me? The annoying girl that you were forced to be with?" I couldn't hear what he was thinking.
"I don't see why not? You're not horrible looking anymore."
My jaw dropped, "I was never horrible looking."
"Ha! You want to see a picture?"
I shook my head. "I'll pass."
He nodded. "That's what I thought."
He looked downstairs.
"Should I go save him?"
Grayson nodded.
"You need to release the vice grip."
Grayson looked down at my forearm. "Shit. Sorry."
Amazing.
He gave me a look. "What?"
"I don't think I've ever heard you say sorry."
He rolled his eyes.
"Get down there and save my brother from your fat friend."
"She's not fat."
I started walking downstairs. Grayson tugged me back.
"What now?"
"Give me a kiss."
I looked up at him confused, "Why?"
"I can't just want a kiss from you?"
I shook my head, "No, you're supposed to hate it."
He shrugged, "It's not so bad."
I glared, "Is that your way of making it better?"
"Don't you find me attractive?"
"That's a trick question."
He smiled, "It's only a kiss." I sighed. "You need to make an effort." I glared. "Come on. I'm not a bad kisser." He looked like he was having fun playing this little game. It was his challenge of the day to get me to kiss him for once.
"If you wanted one so bad we wouldn't be talking about it."
He smirked "I want you to give me a kiss. And you're right; I would've taken it by now."
I managed to get out of his grip and walk downstairs. Relief filled Mason's features.
"Finally." He muttered walking past me.
Becky smiled at me. She wasn't fat.
