It's Called Grief

"So...you're gonna test. I'm gonna watch. And everything is gonna be just. Fine."

Chell should've seen it coming. Everyone eventually betrayed her...her adoptive father, her birth mother, and now Wheatley. There really was no end to it, was there? And really, it was silly that she had fallen in love with him, when she knew that it would end badly, and in heartbreak. Chell clenched her fist and looked at the ground. GLaDOS made the wise choice of staying silent, standing a ways back from Chell. She could feel her worried gaze on her back.

"What? Not gonna say anything as usual? Just gonna stand there?" Wheatley smirked, but it soon changed into a look of curiosity as Chell slowly limped up to the screen. A look of guilt flashed in his eyes...he forgot that the turrets had gotten her in the leg. "What are you doing? Why does your face look like that?"

Chell looked up at the screen with shining eyes. She was done. She couldn't hold it back anymore. She couldn't be strong. Chell rested her forehead against the monitor, and put her hand on the screen. It was silent for a moment before she said, "Its called grief."

GLaDOS let out a short gasp, and Wheatley looked shocked. Those were the first words Chell has ever spoken in front of them. Wheatley blinked, trying to compose himself, and said, "what did you say?"

Chell clenched her fist, shaking slightly and letting a tear fall. Dammit, I can't breakdown...not now. Be strong. "It's called grief," Chell said thickly, "Something you apparently don't understand." Wheatley looked offended before opening his mouth, but Chell looked up angrily. "Don't. Say. A word."

"You can't tell me what to do! I run this bloody place! Me! Not you, you insignificant little human!"

Chell laughed cruelly, and GLaDOS murmured, "Chell...?"

"No, it's fine," she grinned, "You really are a moron, aren't you, Wheatley?"

"I AM NOT A MORON!"

"YOU ARE! You fucking are!" Chell yelled, and Wheatley's eyes widened in surprise. "You're a moron who can't even see when he's hurting the girl who loves him! You're a moron who never noticed how much I needed you by my side! It should be you here, not GLaDOS!"

"Hey...!"

"You...what?" Wheatley whispered. Chell shook her head, and turned towards the door leading to the next test.

"It doesn't matter anymore," Chell muttered, walking towards the elevator with GLaDOS following close behind, "It's done." She knew it would end badly. That it would end in betrayal. Why did she trust him? Why did she trust that polite, British man who saved her from the Relaxation Center? He was a stranger then, nothing more. And he should've stayed that way.

"Chell, no, wait! Please!" Wheatley called desperately, but the doors had shut behind her already. "I'm sorry...I'm so sorry...please come back."

GLaDOS, meanwhile, stood next to Chell in the elevator, and to herself, she thought, He really is a moron, huh?
