Dire situations
I ran. The glowing girls chased me struggling to catch me as I bounded through their forest beyond the limits we'd been given to roam. I may only have been seventeen, but I was the fastest wolf the dire clan had. I didn't want to mate some animal the glowing ones conjured for me, I wanted a real person, someone with my own talent. It was becoming rare, my gift, in the dire clan. Most of us could still reason and think, but generations of strengthening our animals and providing no human blood to balance it was leaving us with fewer and fewer clan members who were born with a human. One of the females managed to latch onto my skin, but I simply pushed, a sudden bolt of speed leaving the rest far, far behind. The one that clung to me grew pale, and o heard a minuscule snap. I'd broken one of her wings, the thing fluttering uselessly at an odd angle to my snout. I huffed, and she lost her grip on the small hairs of my snout, barely managing to latch onto my coat before I left her behind. A pity, I was proud to have hurt her; especially with an injury that wouldn't be able to heal. A glowing ones wings were their only set, able to be healed if treated soon enough; but this one was still holding onto me. She was determined not to let me escape, so she would lose her wing. Almost worthy of my attention.
I still didn't care.
A I ran, I felt a small twitch, and realized what I had to do to escape this endless forest. I pushed even harder, my human and wolf both straining together in unison as my body ran faster than any animal aside from the few birds the glowing ones rode had likely ever managed. The world snapped around me, twisting and dropping away before I dropped into another wood. I whined, scrambling to my feet in faint pain. The forest was chilly, a scent I didn't recognize in the air. The leaves on the trees were changing color, not the constant green I remembered, and the air was colder here. The moon over-head was only a crescent, not the full moon from all of my lives memories. I heard a whimper, and glanced back to see the glowing one shivering and hanging onto my fur for dear life; one of her feet was twisted at an odd angle, and I realized I must've landed on her. I began feeling faintly sorry for her, but I chose to ignore her and begin walking through the odd woods.
My breath misted in front of me and I took in the scents of the forest around me, wandering through it as the moon slowly rose to its peak. As I explored I discovered some odd things. There were odd bushes made of a strange solid material that was soft but hard to break. There were things living inside, something I discovered when a few of them left the bush and screamed at me. I ran, the loud noise terrifying me; I didn't know what dangers there were in this forest, and I didn't want to be around when they showed up. Eventually I found a small clearing, empty of the odd bushes and surrounded by spikes, painful, leafed bushes. There was a lake in the center of it, and a few trees grew around it; the light of the moon overhead cast the entire place into a majestic light of silvers, faded greens, and pale blues. It was beautiful, and as I pawed my way over to the water for a drink I thought about the weird things that lived in the odd bushes I'd seen. They had looked like I did when I struggled into my odd two-legged form. Did that mean they were humans? I'd never seen another except myself in reflections, so it was possible.
I reached the water and lapped at it, the taste oddly metallic, as though full of blood or something. It was delicious, and I began drinking in earnest; until a sound from behind me made me pause, and check what had made it. The blue girl was glowing dimly, she'd tied herself into my fur and was unconscious now, so it hadn't been her. I looked at the woods around me and saw something in the bushes, close to being in the clearing but not quite. I growled, and it took a step back in fear before stepping closer; I cut off my growl as I saw it in the light. It was next to the edge of the forest, barely in the light, and was a young girl; she was human. I perked my ears, turning fully towards her as I began to look at her more closely. She was beautiful, with long, dark hair and strangely dark skin, like lighter tree-bark. I took a few steps towards her, tilting my head in curiosity, before I felt something sting my side. I barked, lurching away from the pain, only to feel another sting on my paw. I glanced down, eyes wide in pained confusion until I saw it. One of the glowing women.
I whined, ears flattening as I tried to run forward, only to feel myself trip and fall, more and more of the women appearing and dashing at me as they threw sparks of pain into me. I knew they'd trapped me, and soon they'd take me back to face some kind of punishment; I whined in fear, not wanting to let it happen. I felt them begin dragging me back into the water, and I yelped in fear as I weighed. The girl who had latched into me had been removed, and she was gone. They probably took her back to award her. I struggled desperately until I heard a shout. The girl was running towards me, the smell of fear wafting off of her as she got closer; close enough for me to see the tears leaking from her blue eyes. I howled, and the glowing ones scattered, dashing away for an instant as the girl got close. I painted for a moment, trying to force myself to my feet, and the girl knelt, hugging me. She cried into my neck, and I whined slightly, licking her cheek. She was beautiful.
The women began to try to scare the child off, shrieking suddenly, hurting her, casting horrific illusions, and even physically trying to pry her off; but she held on with an iron grip. I actually began to have trouble breathing when I heard a loud yell from the clearing. A full grown man carrying a long stick of wood and metal cane running towards us, smelling like fury; the glowing ones disappeared before he arrived. I hopped, licking her cheek as the man grew close, pointing the stick at me. I eyed it curiously, and his eyes narrowed as he began to pull a piece of it. The girl yelled, moving to cover my face before the man pulled her off of me. I let out a low whimper at the sight and tried to get up again, only for my legs to fail me as I tried. There was suddenly a loud noise and I barked, jerking to the side as the dirt next to me suddenly blew up. I panted, ears perked as I stared at the man with wide eyes; the girl had pushed the stick to the side before he'd used it, and he was yelling at her now, arms flying around as he smelled even more strongly of anger.
I yipped, trying to make it to my feet and repay my debt. She'd saved my life, now I would repay the favor by scaring off this crazy old man. I pushed against myself, trying to let my weaker half take control, until I heard a loud smacking sound. I froze, whipping my head around to stare at them. The girl was sobbing at the old mans feet while he held up a hand that had been used to smack her. I howled, loudly and furiously, ignoring the shakiness of my legs as I forced myself to my feet and growled at the man. He looked at me, eyes widening with fear as he saw my raised hackles and bared teeth. He tried to raise the stick, but I leapt forward, biting the long end where the magic cane from and snapping it off as I growled at him. He stumbled backwards, dropping the stick as he turned to run; I almost went after him, but my legs could barely leave me standing. When he vanished into the surrounding tree-line, I collapsed, panting heavily and whining softly. I looked around and saw the girl shivering as she sat about a foot away from me, and I whined slightly, yipping as she glanced at me and letting my tongue loll out of my mouth as I gave a wolffish grin.
She slowly calmed down and took a few tentative steps towards me; I lay still, waiting for her to reach me of her own free will. She got close, and then hesitantly brushed my fur with her hand. I panted lazily, tongue killing out as I leaned into the touch. She began scratching my head and I whined as leaned into the sensation. Suddenly, she was scratching my belly and I realized I'd rolled over; my brain didn't get much farther than that, though, because it went to heaven at the feeling of her hands on my stomach. My left hind paw began jerking uncontrollably in a scratching motion, and stretched to let her access more of my stomach; sure it was a submissive pose, but this heaven was worth it. She giggled and I woofed, making her pull away slightly as she giggled. She said some things as I rolled over and turned, licking her face in thanks.
Then I felt something cold prick my side and I froze, drowsiness filling me. I whined in confusion as my head swayed, the world spinning before I felt the cold pricking again and the world slowly went black. When I woke up, in a daze, I heard my girl screaming and struggling as people roughly held and moved me, and I shook myself, trying to woof around the thing over my mouth. Whatever it was, the people started shouting and yelling and I forced myself to roll out of their hands, scrambling at the floor as the place swam in and out of focus. There was a black box with circles under it in one direction, and my girl was in the other, being held by a few male humans obviously older than her. I grew focused and barked loudly through the mouth-cover-thing as I began to run towards the men. I felt the cold prick and stumbled, tripping into a roll to try and not get hit again.
One of the men shouted in pain and I made it to the girl, whining as I nudged her stomach before the second prick came and knocked me out. I barked in fear as she grabbed onto me, crying and screaming before everything went black. When I woke up again, I was in some kind of white cave with a glowing ceiling and lots of shiny, grey, cold things everywhere, including under me. My mouth-cover-thing was still on, and now they had my limbs tied down as well. I struggled, barking in fear as a man came in with a clipboard speaking fervently. He paused, glancing up and growing pale as he saw me struggling. The black thin box he'd been holding to his ear almost dropped to the floor before he caught it and began speaking nervously. I was starting to get annoyed at not being able to understand them. When the men with the black sticks came in, though, I grew terrified, barking and writhing as they aimed the sticks at me. I didn't want to die!
The man in white grew curious as the other men fired and twin pricks of cold hit me, and blackness slowly consumed my vision.
