The Guy on the Road

We continued on our way down the gravel road. I felt really good, with the sun shining and the wind blowing in my face. Suddenly, we stopped.

"Why did we stop, Adam?" asked Thalia, pulling out her bow.

"There's a guy on the road ahead! We should go see who he is!" Adam exclaimed. We rode up to him and noticed he was sitting on the ground.

"Who are you?" asked Ty, slowly putting his sword back in its sheath.

"The name's Cody," the guy said. He was wearing camo pants and a plain t-shirt.

"Where did you come from? Usually we don't see people in the middle of the road..." Adam said. He dismounted his horse and helped Cody to his feet.

"I don't know... the question is, why am I here?" he asked.

"Well, come with us and make camp. You can tell us more when you're well rested," Ryan said. He held his hand out and Cody jumped on the back of this horse. I saw out of the corner of my eye that Thalia was looking at me, then Cody, then me again.

I knew what she was thinking.

What if I wasn't the person of legend? What if Cody was the one?

"Come on guys. Let's start setting up camp," Adam instructed.

We quickly set up tents, a campfire and began cooking food. Thalia and Adam walked into Adam's tent. I overheard them talking.

"What if he's the one of legend?" Thalia asked.

"That's what I was thinking. How could Austin be the one? Nothing against him, but he's a noob!" Adam said. He sighed.

"Well, the legend also said that the person had never seen the land before, so that means that if Cody had ever played Minecraft, he wouldn't be the one," Thalia muttered.

I walked back to the fire pit and sat by Bashur.

"Hey Austin," Bashur mumbled. He looked angry.

"What's up, Bash? You look mad," I said.

"Cody was making fun of me because I'm a melon," he growled.

"That's mean..." I said.

I saw Mitch and Jerome stomp over and plop down on the ground.

"What's wrong now?!" I asked.

"A certain person," growled Jerome, "doesn't like baccas." He gestured to Cody.

"Then why is Mitch mad?" I asked.

"Cody has a thing against Canadians..." muttered Mitch. He was holding the handle of his axe so tight his knuckles were turning white.

"Okay, that's mean..." I said to the two of them. I unsheathed my sword and started walking toward him but Ty put his hand on my chest and held me back.

"Killing him won't help anything," he said coldly.

"What did he call you?" I asked, looking at him.

"Nothing..." Ty stuttered, keeping his hand on my chest.

"Seriously, Ty," I said, shoving his hand away.

"An emo freak... but you still can't kill him," Ty said, forcefully at the end.

"Fine. But if he does anything to stop Adam from taking the throne, I'm gonna kill him," I said sternly. Ty watched me walk back to the campfire.

I hate him. I really do.

Adam walked out of his tent and sat down by the fire. Cody soon joined us.

"We have some questions for you, Cody," Adam said calmly.

"Okay. What?" he asked.

"Where were you from before you came here?" Adam asked.

"Washington," Cody replied.

"Okay. Now, have you ever played Minecraft before?" Adam asked, staring at him.

"Yeah, I used to play a bit with my friends," Cody said.

"Good to know. Now everyone should get some sleep," Ty said. He got up and went to his tent. We all dispersed into our own tents. I snuggled in and was just about to fall asleep when I heard Adam and Cody talking.

"What were all those questions for?" demanded Cody.

"Nothing. We just wanted to know you more," Adam lied.

"Come on, GOLDilocks. Tell the truth," Cody mocked.

"Not right now, Cody. Go to bed," Adam said, clearly pissed off.

"Fine, Goldy," smirked Cody. He stalked off to his tent.

"And it's called budder!" called Adam after him.

Cody didn't respond. I heard Adam huff and go back to his tent, which was right between Ty and me.

If I get my hands on Cody, he's dead...
