Chapter 31; Last Day

Sans was awake in the earlier hours of the morning. Since the Pussycats had to deal with his bs all week, he might as well leave them with a good breakfast. He woke up around five in the morning, making fluffy cinnamon bunnies with a sticky sweet icing and berries, some rolled omelets with salt, and some bacon, because bacon is good.

He was also making Starfait or trying to. It didn't taste exactly like the MTT branded Starfait, but that was probably because he had real ingredients and not edible glitter and frosting; this Starfait was made with homemade whipped cream, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and a single sliced strawberry on top with a mint sprig.

He even set the table! Each place setting had a cup of milk, a cup of tea, or a bottle of ketchup. He placed all the food on the table so everyone could get themselves the amount they wanted. If nobody wanted the heavier breakfast, Sans had blueberry oatmeal and toast on standby, and if everyone wanted the spread he made originally, he could feed the standby food to a small blaster he made for Kota.

He made the small blaster on his second day in the internship. Kota was a good kid, and while Sans didn't know what happened in his past, he deserved a companion. The blaster was around long enough for it to produce and subside on its own magic.

Its eyelights were a deep purple color. It had a small skeletal, dragon-like body. Along with its deep purple eyelights, a pair of bright lavender, small, circular blushes were on its cheekbones. A deep purple colored tongue was in its mouth.

As it lived on its own, it started to develop its own personality. It does subside on its own magic, but it does need food to actually make its own magic. As soon as Kota named it, it would officially become his companion and grow alongside him.

"Sans? What time is it."

"Morning Mina. Wanna help me wake your Aunt and the others?"

"Why?"

"So everyone can eat breakfast."

"If you made it, I'm down. I'll get Tiger, Pixie-Bob, and Ragdoll."

"I'll get the other two."

Mina snatched a piece of bacon before running off. Sans chuckled and walked down the hall. Mandalay was already dressed and locking her door when Sans found her. She was dressed in full civvies, making Sans feel underdressed in a pair of blue and white pajama pants and a solid, light blue shirt with some flour splotches.

"Sans, what is on your shirt?"

"Oh, I was, ham-bushed, in the kitchen by some flour. You're looking, egg-cellent, today."

"You're awful, cheerio, today."

"Ayyy!"

Sans shot some finger guns at her, proud of the first pun she made during his time there.

"I made breakfast. Head on down to the dining room. I'm going to fetch Kota."

"Thanks a, brunch, Sans."

Sans snickered all the way down to Kota's dark green door. Opening it, Kota was out cold with quiet snores coming from his tiny body.

"Go wake him up buddy."

The blaster flapped its little bone and magic wings from its place on the roof. It dropped to the ground and ran over to Kota, where it started licking and nuzzling his face. The sight made him miss Mayo. The sweet white cat was with Ichika at their house so she could explore and know that house was her home.

"Sans!"

Kota was finally awake and was starstruck over the blaster.

"Morning, bud."

"Sans, what is this?"

"A little gift, from me to you. I'm leaving tomorrow and you could use a new skeleton friend when I'm gone."

"What's her name?"

"Whatever you want it to be, bud."

Kota stared deep into the blaster's purple eyes, until he smirked at Sans.

"I'll name her Jelly."

Sans's bit back a laugh. Obviously, Kota was messing with him, but the blaster attached herself to the name immediately.

"Nice ta meet ya Jelly. C'mon kid, breakfast is ready."

Jelly lifted Kota on her back and flew out of the room. Sans jogged behind them, laughing.

"Holy shit! Kota, what are you on!"

"Jelly!"

Sans snickered at Mandalay's parental panic. He's been there many a time with Papyrus...when he was a little babybones, nothing but smiles and nyehs'...

Sans was brought out of his depressing thoughts by people reaching for food and gushing over his cooking.

"Sans! Kitten, where'd you learn to cook?"

"An old friend from my hometown. She taught me the basics of cooking, and I taught myself Japanese food when I got to Japan."

Sans helped himself to two cinnamon bunnies, three rolled omelets, and a couple strips of bacon. Everyone ate laughing over jokes. Sans even saw Kota slipping some bacon to Jelly. Sans tried to start doing dishes, but Tiger and Mina pushed him from the room.

"You cooked, so it's not fair to make you do the dishes."

Sans chuckled and left them alone. He went to his room to get dressed in a pair of white jean shorts, a bright blue short sleeved shirt, and his black sneaker with orange laces (a gift from Katsuki.) Mandalay and Pixie-Bob were discussing their plans for the upcoming week, and Ragdoll was napping off her food coma in the sun. Sans went to find Kota. The kid was ecstatic to have his own companion.

Kota was behind the house shooting water from his hands. Jelly was jumping all around, getting wet while trying to get the water in her mouth.

"Heh, hey Kota. Wanna go to the pet store and get stuff for Jelly girl?"

"Heck yeah!"

Kota was flipped onto Jelly's back.

"Jelly, come. I don't need to be separated from you."

Sans held the blaster and kid close as he took a taxing shortcut to the mall's pet store. When they got there, Sans was out of breath and breathing heavily.

"Sans?! Are you okay?! I thought you said distance didn't matter with your shortcuts!"

"It doesn't. I never said anything about passengers, did I? Whelp, it's no bones off my back. C'mon, browse around for a bit. I'm going to get a quick snack."

Sans watched Kota and Jelly run off into the store, leaving him to pick himself up and trudge to the vending machine. An arm grabbed him by the waist, and pulled him against a well muscled, and frankly, very familiar chest.

"Well, I hadn't expected to see you here, Ground Zero."

"Why're you here, Richter? Shouldn't you be with the Pussycats?"

"I made everyone breakfast and took Kota out to get some things for his new companion."

Sans turned around, leaning against the vending machine. He proudly showed off his new glasses, of which a small pink tint coated Katsuki's cheeks.

"New glasses?"

"Yup, you like them, Kat-su-ki?"

"I do."

Now it was Sans's turn to blush as Katsuki pressed him against the vending machine. Sans hands clutched at the hem of Katsuki's shirt as he was "devoured" by his fiery blonde.

"Sans!"

Sans shortcutted the store entrance where Kota was blushing violently and covering his eyes.

"Hey Kota! Did you find anything you liked?"

From the tips of his ears to the top of his neck, Sans's face was burning blue. Katsuki was leaning against the poor vending machine, snickering under his breath. After a few seconds of his boyfriend panicking, he made his way over and scooped Kota up onto his shoulders.

"Come on kid. Richter will go get his snack and recharge and we will get the things you need for your pet."

Katsuki took Kota inside, giving Sans enough time to calm down and eat.

"Where's this pet I keep hearing about?"

"Her name is Jelly. Why were you macking on nii-chan?"

"He's my boyfriend."

"Okay. I left Jelly in the bed aisle."

Kota directed Katsuki to where all the pet beds were. Jelly was lounging on a large cushy, dark red dog bed.

"Did Sans give her to you?"

"Yeah! Nii-chan said this morning that she was my new skeleton friend!"

Katsuki nodded and lifted the "pet" on her bed so she didn't have to move. Sans eventually caught up to them, when they were comparing treats.

"It doesn't matter what kind of treats you give Jelly, but they do have a preference for bones and meat."

"Okay nii-chan." Kota was comparing two large meat covered bones while Sans looked at Katsuki. He may understand most of the Japanese language, but there were still some words that evaded him, mainly from never hearing them used.

"Big brother."

Sans was giddy the whole shopping trip after Katsuki translated for him. He even took Kota to a little donut shop for a little treat. Sans got an apple fritter, Katsuki a plain (no icing, filling, etc), and Kota got a cinnamon twist. Katsuki and Kota walked around while Sans lazed on Katsuki's back. They eventually reached an indoor park where Kota and Jelly started flying and doing stunts for the other kids.

Sans rubbed his smushed cheek against Katsuki's left shoulder blade.

"I missed this back~ Woe is me, the torture of walking and running on my own was horrible~"

"Heh, lazy drama queen."

"Damn straight! I'll take that title anyday. Who knows, that might be my hero name."

"Nah, it'll be so much cooler than that."

"What 'bout you? Given any thought to the great Bakugo Katsuki's hero name yet?"

"A bit. That Jean-Bastard's been useful in brainstorming, and he came up with one. "DynaMight."

"Nope. Sorry babe, but that name is dumber than my old pet rock. You'll come up with a name as great as you."

"You better fucking believe it! You ready to go back to school tomorrow?"

"Being carried almost everywhere, free food I don't have to make myself, intermittent naps in every class, midterms? Hell yeah I'm ready to go back. One thing though. Can't believe I forgot to do this."

Sans coated his hand in a very fine layer of magic and ruffled Katsuki's hair violently. The slicked side part was magically assisted into its normal state of spikiness. Sans rubbed his face into the soft spikes laughing (read giggling) quietly.

Passersby awed at the cute couple moment the two highschoolers were having. Best Jeanist stood by, leaning against a tree, silently applauding The young Bakugo on raising his public opinion.

This little couple moment showed the public that the explosive blonde was family oriented and was extremely loyal to those he loved. He did take slight offense that the Gaster boy called his hero name suggestion "dumber than his pet rock" but that wasn't the only possible name on his list. He was also unhappy that the neat hairstyle that took literally an hour and a half to do.

Back to the lovely couple, Sans was now sleeping soundly on Katsuki's back, drooling a small bit on his shoulder.

"Hey, Jelly. It's time to go home."

Katsuki had to whisper yell to the little blaster since Kota was sleeping like a baby. Jelly held her new, deep indigo leash to Katsuki. As she grew in the day, she was learning. She was reasonably intelligent and knew that she had to have a leash or she'd be feared.

Sans clung to Katsuki's back like a koala, Kota was cuddled up into his arms on his chest, and Jelly's leash was wrapped around his left wrist loosely as she walked beside him, easily keeping pace. Katsuki was ignoring the civilians around him, searching for the annoying pro hero he came with.

"Bakugo. When I left you, I didn't expect three tagalongs when I found you again."

"Tch. Don't talk so loud. They need more sleep."

"Alright. Are we taking a detour to drop them off?"

"Obviously."

"Alright, let's go. Try not to shed in my car."

"She doesn't have fucking fur."

"I was talking to you. Your hair is a mess."

Hakamada was silently pleased that he wasn't subjected to the blonde ruffian's screaming for the twentieth time that day. He corralled the kids into the backseat and the skeleton dog(with wings?) into the passenger seat. Jelly rested her skull into Hakamada's lap, enjoying the occasional scritches she received. She too enjoyed the smooth ride back to her home with an undisturbed nap.

Katsuki sat in the backseat, obviously. Sans was strapped in on his left with his arm around his shoulders. Kota was on his right, where the child slept. Katsuki had one of Hakamada's spare jackets folded on his lap and Kota's head rested.

Hakamada put on quiet, wordless music to fill the silence and to put the Gaster boy at ease. His face was scratched and he was trembling. If he was being honest, he was positive the poor kid was having a nightmare. His current charge was doing his best to soothe him with shoulder rubs and sweet whispers, but it wasn't enough.

Thankfully the classical piano, violin, and cello was enough to soothe the small high schooler. Sans's sleep was peaceful once more and his face snuggled into Katsuki's side. Hakamada wished he had a camera. In his rearview, he could see his charge's face light up when his boyfriend cuddled into him.

It was nearing dusk when Hakamada's car pulled into the Beasts Forest.

"JEANIST!"

"Hello to you too, Sosaki. Get Tsuchikawa to make a clear path for me to get through. I forgot to make the turn for the house's driveway."

"No problem! She's happy to do it!"

The ground underneath the restored black station wagon, lifting above all the trees. The car and its occupants were carried all the way to the Pussycats's main house, where a couple people were waiting for them. The car was set down with a light thud.

The Kirishima trio waited off to the side with Mina and the Pussycats stood close by. Ragdoll shook out her arms and bounced from foot to foot.

"Nice!"

Katsukia and Hakamada were quick to shush her. Jelly helped Hakamada get Kota out of the car and Eijirou helped Katsuki with Sans.

"Shitty hair. What're you doing here?"

"Mandalay called Ma and wanted us to pick Sans up. She thought it'd be good to let him and Mina off a little early."

Eijirou cradled Sans in his arms, and carried him to his Mom's patrol car. Mina was already in the back left seat. She made the middle seat as comfortable as she could and she had blankets and pillows on standby, ready for her sleepy bestie. Eijirou moved his brother into the middle seat and climbed in after him.

Sans's head was leaning heavily on Mina, so she moved a pillow to lay on both her and Eijirou's laps and covered him in at least two blankets. Eijirou strapped Sans in and kept his brother from falling off the seat.

Katsuki waved pathetically, looking like an abandoned puppy. Hakamada placed a heavy hand on his shoulder.

"Come on kid. We have to head back now."

<~>

Sans slept almost peacefully the entire ride home. He did shift a lot while sleeping. Mina was permitted to sleep over with Eijirou and Sans, since it was late. Eijirou carried Sans up to his bed and Natsumi helped her son set up a foldaway futon in the boys' beds. Eijirou gave up his bed to his girlfriend, not waiting for her to sleep on the slightly dusty futon.

Sans slept comfortably in his own cushy bed and he seemed to fall into a deeper sleep the second his head hit the pillow. His unconscious body wiggled around until his neatly made comforter, sheets, and pillows was in a balled up nest.
