Chapter 21; Not Again

A/N: Buckle up, this is probably going to be one of the heaviest, and longest chapters to date.

"SANS WAKE UP!"

Papyrus, Asriel, and Eijirou jumped on Sans's bed, expecting to dogpile on the sleeping boy. Sans was smart and used a shortcut to escape to Eijirou's bed.

"Hey bros, and Azzy. Good morning."

"MERRY CHRISTMAS BROTHER!"

"Heh, merry Christmas to you too bro. Why don't you and Azzy head downstairs and wait for me and Eiji to get ready for breakfast."

"ALL RIGHT! DON'T GO BACK TO SLEEP! I'LL KNOW IF YOU DO!"

Papyrus left Sans and Eijirou's room with Asriel happily perched on his shoulders. Their room was decorated very plainly with Sans bed holding homemade ketchup bottle lights and Eiji's held normal Christmas lights. Sans ketchup lights were made with actual red glass ketchup bottles with fairy lights inside. Todoroki and Deku made them for him as their joint Christmas present to him.

Eijirou waited by their door while Sans slipped on his fluffy black and orange robe and his favorite pink slippers. Mina and Denki had Momo make the robe to look like Katsuki's hero costume to tease Sans and Katsuki, and it worked, but it easily became Sans's favorite thing to wear. Sans also slipped a little box into his robe pocket, before sluggishly making his way over to Eijirou.

"Come on bro!"

"Keep your pants on, Eiji. I'm coming."

Sans grabbed Eiji's arm and took a shortcut into the kitchen. He took a special red and green ketchup bottle from the fridge and walked into the living room. Katsuki sat on the couch with Papyrus excitedly blabbering on about everything. The big tree in the room was a dark evergreen with silver tinsel, a range of dark and light blue ornaments, and golden lights. On top of the tree was an orb of golden magic created by Alphys.

The small humanoid woman sat near the fireplace on a quilt, in a light brown nightgown underneath Undyne's arm. When they arrived into the new world, Alphy's magic manifested into a "mutation quirk" so she had some golden scales going up her arms, legs, the soles of her feet, her cheeks, and her forehead. She also had her lovely tail, only smaller to more accurately fit her smaller, 5'5 body.

Undyne on the other hand was just as amazing as you can imagine. Long, flowing red hair, bulging muscles, a tall 6'3, dark brown skin, narrow yellow eye. She wore a black tank top with a pair of white sweatpants.

Papyrus was sitting in front of the tree with Asriel sorting through the presents, Shota and Hizashi sat on a couch, whispering to each other with gushy, love struck grins, Hitoshi was napping in an armchair with Denki on his lap. Said blonde menace was braiding different parts of the purplette's hair. Ichika, Natsumi, Eijirou, and Mina all took up the second couch. Ichika and Natsumi cuddled and Eijirou and Mina laughed at Christmas memes on Mina's phone.

Katsuki and Sans sat on the only loveseat. Katsuki was laid on it, with Sans in between his legs, resting the back of his head on Katsuki's chest. Everyone was with the person they love, (except Papyrus and Asriel,) and were having a great time.

"ALRIGHT! THE GREAT PAPYRUS HAS SORTED THROUGH ALL THE PRESENTS WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF ASRIEL! WE WILL PASS AROUND EVERYONE'S PRESENTS NOW!"

Sans gave Shota a coffee cup about twice as large as normal with cat paw prints all over. Hitoshi and Denki got matching sweaters that say "I'm with LoverBoy" and "I'm LoverBoy", Denki got the I'm loverboy one. Hizashi was easy, he got a new leather jacket and boots with his hero name on the back of the jacket.

Mina got a brand new make-up kit with colors that compliment her skin tone. Undyne got a hefty book about weapons in the new world, where to get them and how to use them, written by Sans after much research. Alphys got three anime box sets with the manga to go with it. Ichika and Natsumi got a set of tickets to go to a lakeside cabin retreat for a vacation.

Papyrus got five cookbooks all ranging from different topics. Asriel got a camera and blank photo album with a note saying, "Your mom would love to know what adventures you went on when you see her again."

Sans got a fancy bluetooth wristwatch from Hitoshi, a cat themed travel mug from Shota, a wireless microphone from Hizashi, a box of assorted candies from Mina, a blue winter hat from Denki, battle training gear from Undyne, a new science kit from both Ichika and Alphys, a light blue cape from Papyrus, a still living Echo Flower in a dark green and light yellow pot , and a gold bar necklace with Katsuki engraved with orange crystals.

Katsuki wore a similar necklace with Sans engraved on it with sapphires. It was so cute, Sans leaned up and pecked his cheek.

"Thanks Ground Zero. I love it."

"Good. I know you got me a gift, Shii-Kirishima wouldn't stop pestering me about how much you worked on it."

"Heh, Eiji is such a big mouth. Come on, it's in my room."

Sans intertwined his fingers with Katsuki's and took a shortcut into his and Eijirou's room. He grabbed two boxes and a wrapped book.

"This one first."

Katsuki took the book and tore the paper. An annoyed grin slowly formed as he read the title.

"101 Jokes and Puns That'll Tickle Your Funny Bone!"

Sans burst out into laughter as Katsuki stared at the cover, a picture of Sans dabbing.

"Richter, I swear to god -"

"Here, I hope you enjoyed your gag gift."

Sans tucked the book under his arm, and handed Katsuki the second, sleeker, pale orange box. Katsuki opened it and was met with row after row of ginger colored candies.

"I made them. These are ginger flavored bon bons. I know you don't exactly like chocolate, so I subbed it. If you eat one when you're injured, depending on the injury, it'll heal you."

Sans jumped when Katsuki bit his own arm, drawing a bit of blood.

"What the hell are you doing, Katsuki!"

Katsuki popped one of the bon bons into his mouth and watched a pale green light glow around his bite mark. The bite mark healed without traces of blood or a scar.

"Neat trick Richter. How about you -"

Sans punched him in the gut and hugged him tightly.

"You ever do that again, I'll do more than punch you."

"Sans, lets not -"

"You won't get cuddles for a whole month."

"Okay okay! I won't do that again!"

Sans took a smaller, recognizable box from his robe pocket. Katsuki opened it to see two rings. One was a gold band with a colorless heart in the center. The second was a silver band with an upside down with another colorless heart in the center.

"The gold one's yours. Put it on."

Katsuki slipped the ring on his left index finger, and watched the heart turn into a bright, gleaming ruby. Sans put his ring on his right ring finger and the gem turned into a golden, twinkling topaz.

"The gemstones react to your soul's primary color. Also, this might be me being a worry wart, but they also have another purpose. If you or me are in danger, the other's ring will start to try and pull you to where the other is. Do...do you like it?"

Katsuki pulled Sans in his lap and planted a kiss on him. Their impromptu make-out session was interrupted when Sans started smacking his shoulder, needing to breathe. Katsuki pulled away and he pressed his forehead to Sans's, panting equally as much.

"Safe to say you like the gift."

"I do. Let's head back downstairs and get some breakfast."

"That sounds great."

Katsuki slipped his ring onto his necklace chain to hang over the gold bar. Sans kept his ring on his right ring finger, too lazy to really move, and not caring about getting teased for it.

The two boys took the stairs, to soak up as much alone time as they could. Everyone had a hearty breakfast of blueberry waffles and bacon, before the antics started up. There was a game of charades that, surprisingly, Shota and Sans kept winning. Katsuki was on Kirishima's team, due to being in the bathroom when teams were being made.

There was also a cookie decorating contest. To no one's surprise Katsuki was the hands down winner with Asriel as his partner. Sans was the loser because he decorated his cookies with ketchup and white buttercream to make little santas, and while they looked stunning, they tasted horrendous to everyone but him.

They all went to Kim's Korean Barbeque for lunch and made the staff's day when they spread the holiday cheer. After they went home the games continued with a scrabble championship. Katsuki and Sans were in the semi finals and after Sans beat him, he went up against Ichika, who won against Alphys. The two scientists took three and a half hours before Ichika won. There was celebratory hot chocolate and naps for those who didn't cook; aka the children and Sans, who slept on top of Katsuki.

Their Christmas dinner was legendary. Ham, potatoes, fried chicken, veggies, biscuits, and apple and blueberry pies. After dinner the karaoke started. No one really wanted to do it except Papyrus. And Papyrus being Papyrus, dragged Sans into it. They sang Mariah Carrie's iconic Christmas song, All I Want For Christmas.

All of a sudden, the room went dark. Sans looked around as his friends started turning to dust and their HP dropping too quickly for his liking. Katsuki, who he had been holding on to, gave him one last kiss before he too dusted away in front of him. Sans broke down and fell to his knees, clutching his nice blue vest, screaming in agony.

"Why so sad, Comedian? Did you think I wouldn't want to continue our game?"

The human stood before Sans holding their oh-so precious kitchen knife.

"You!"

"...."

"I'll see you again soon!"

"S..nss.."

The floor underneath his feet started falling and there was nothing he could grab onto to save himself.

"SANS!"

Sans eyes snapped open and a three foot blaster appeared next to him, ready to fight. Katsuki stood in front of him, looking like he'd seen a ghost.

"Sans, are you okay? You were having a nightmare."

Sans launched himself at Katsuki and started sobbing his soul out into his chest. Katsuki's heart started crumbling in on itself, unable to sooth Sans's heart wrenching cries. Soon after the chest of Katsuki's night shirt was saturated with tears, he passed out.

Sans was staying at Katsuki's because after their date...

<~Flashback~>

Sans, Katsuki, and Asriel made it back to the house after Asriel "caught" them making out. The walk back was peaceful and Katsuki left them at the front door, his another chaste kiss and a good shuffle of fur before making his trek home.

Sans was on cloud nine, but that euphoric feeling quickly evaporated when yelling and screaming was heard.

"Asriel, stay behind me."

Opening the door with his magic ready, he saw Eijirou screaming at Ichika and Shota.

"What would possess you to think that they're dangerous?! They have been nothing less than nice since they arrived!"

"It wasn't my idea Kirishima! Nezu asked your mom to make it, in case something happens!"

"And that was a good enough reason for you Mom?! In case Sans goes all dark and evil?!"

"Eijirou, I-"

"Woah, woah! Everyone calm down, break it up. What is going on here?"

The two adults froze and stared at Sans, with his worried gaze and kiss swollen lips.

"Sans!"

Eijirou engulfed him in a hug and dragged him away from his mother and teacher.

"These two made a machine to kill you, Papy, and Azzy if they thought you would turn out to be evil!"

"What?"

Sans looked at Shota, who averted his eyes.

"Ichika, tell me you didn't..."

"Sans, it was just a precaution. Scientist to scientist, you know it was the right thing."

Sans felt his heart start to break. One of the first humans he met in this world, the first one he told about his home, about his life, made something to kill him? To kill his brother and Asriel? Sans's head started swaying. He snatched Asriel off the ground and bolted out the still open door. He could hear people yelling for him and even running after him, but he couldn't stop. He eventually stopped running outside the festival where Katsuki was getting into his dad's car.

The people he'd been living with for maybe a month, maybe two, wanted to kill him? He didn't know what to make of that. Back in the Underground, Monsters talked their problems out so nothing like this would happen. Humans were simple creatures, but Sans is one now. Would he become as predictable as them? Would he stop treating people fairly, and act irrationally? Shoot first, ask questions later, as he had heard Natsumi say once?

"Richter?"

Sans dropped Asriel and started crying. Fat, glowing blue tears started traveling down his cheeks. Katsuki rushed to pull Sans into his chest. Sans sobbed into his chest while Asriel tried to explain what happened.

Masaru strapped Asriel into the front seat and Katsuki corralled Sans into the backseat. Sans laid on his stomach with his head on his chest. When they reached Katsuki's house, Sans was calm enough to actually explain what happened.

"Eiji's mom and Aizawa have made precautions to neutralize myself as well as Asriel and Papyrus. I couldn't handle it and ran out with Azzy. Pretty childish, huh?"

Masaru shook his head and patted his shoulder. Katsuki was in the guest room setting up the bed for Asriel.

"I don't think it's childish at all. Hell, I'm forty-two and I probably would've thrown things at them and screamed bloody murder. You handled that situation the best anyone your age would've. I know you boys ate at the festival, but are you hungry? Katsuki told us about your appetite. Is it caused by your quirk?"

"Y-yeah, I need a lot of energy for my quirk, so I sleep a bunch and eat as much as I can, whenever I can."

"Alright, we have a big bowl of curry in the fridge. Don't worry, I made it, so it's not spicy."

Sans got dressed in Katsuki's night clothes and Asriel was dressed in one of Masaru's shirts. They both ate three bowls of curry before Mitsuki got home. Then they all watched a comedy movie. Katsuki and Mitsuki wanted horror, but Sans's choice of a comedy won out because of Asriel. In the middle of the movie, Sans, Asriel, and Mitsuki were all out cold. Masaru took his wife and Asriel to the guest room and his bedroom and Katsuki took Sans to his room.

<~End Flashback~>

Sans may have been unconscious after his sobbing, but he was still very much aware. He felt Katsuki lay him back onto the bed, and hug his body close. The kid was in the new world. The kid RESET the new world, who knows how many times. After his body woke up, he kissed Katsuki's forehead and took a shortcut into the school library.

He took books on welding, gemstones, and quantum physics. His past self's idea with the ring was a great idea. Only he would teak it a small bit. Depending on the severity of the danger the ring bearer was in, the ring would force him to shortcut to their location. He made one for Katsuki, Eijirou, Asriel, and Papyrus. He was also brushing up on his knowledge of quantum physics with a large cup of straight, black coffee. He couldn't stand the taste, but it did its job and kept him awake.

If the kid really was in the new world, then he needed to do something. Build something to prevent them from using more RESETs. It took him a whole day to make just one of the rings. For four days Sans wholed himself in a science lab closest to the library he was in. He made sure it was clean and spent the four days it took to make those rings in that lab.

He did, on occasion, leave to the cafeteria to get sandwiches from the vending machines to replenish his magic, but that was it. The rings took a lot out of him, but he either didn't care or notice that his human body needed to eat too.

On the fifth day, Sans was delirious with hunger and sleep deprivation. The only time he really interacted with people was when he tapped into a blaster's vision to pass out the rings. Papyrus was on his fishing/camping trip, so he had to wait. Asriel was at home so he had to wait too. Eijirou and Katsuki got their rings, with a little slip of paper explaining what they did.

In present time, Sans was stumbling from the library to the science lab, nose deep in a book. He had deep purple bags under his eyes, and his hair was oily. He was using the wall as his only support while walking.

Shota was walking toward him when Sans walked past the classroom. He caught up to his student halfway to the science lab. He rushed to catch Sans when he tripped over himself and fell to his knees. Shota watched him struggle to get back on his feet for a good minute, before gripping his upper arm and helping him to his feet.

"Let go of me."

"You're lighter than usual. You also haven't been in class or sleeping."

"Why'd you care? You wanted to get rid of me, remember. Just making your job easier by doing it myself."

"Sans, that is not– ugh, I never wanted to get rid of you. You are my favorite, and best student."

"Yeah, like I'd believe that. If you'll excuse me...I have...to get back...to my wor..."

Sans fell forward.

"Sans! Shit."

Aizawa caught Sans and held him up. Sans was sleeping, and it didn't look like he was gonna wake up anytime soon. Aizawa lifted the sleeping boy up and started speed walking to the Recovery Girl's office.

"Aizawa? Where's the fire?"

"Gaster is unconscious. I suspect he hasn't been eating and I know he hasn't been sleeping. Set up -"

"Aizawa, if you start telling me how to be a doctor, I'll hit you with a wooden spoon."

"Alright, alright"

Aizawa chuckled and laid Sans out on the bed. Recovery Girl hooked Sans up to two IV drips to help restore his fluids. Outside the door, Eijirou and Katsuki stood eavesdropping on their teacher and school nurse.

"Shota, where'd you find the poor boy? There is an obscene amount of caffeine in his system and not a lot of food. It looks like his body absorbs his food immediately after consumption."

"He was in hallway 1-A2. I think he was coming from the library and headed to the science lab. He had this book on him."

"The Space Time Continuum Theory Book 3? This is advanced stuff Shota. I know you don't teach this, this is reserved for the students Nezu personally teaches."

"I know. I don't think he had a pass on him to get the damn book, or why he even has it in the first place. I'll go check out the library and then the lab and see what I can find. Radio me when he wakes up. I've got questions for him. Should I bring food? Water?"

"Not until I call you. Right now, It'll go cold and go to waste. I'll take a fruit salad and a mango juice."

"I'll tell Ecto. See you later."

Shota sent a text to Ectoplasm and started walking to the library. If he saw a redhead and a blonde hiding behind the doors to Recovery Girl's office, he wouldn't tell anyone. In the library, he asked the librarian where Sans had been sitting.

"Follow me, son."

Shota followed the older man to a secluded table in the third year section. The table was stacked with books about quantum physics, space time, welding, human anatomy, quirk history... The collection of books was very concerning to Shota, but he needed to give Sans the benefit of a doubt.

"That young man has such a penchant for learning. He comes into the library in the mornings with his big ol' coffee mug and doesn't leave this table until lunchtime, then he returns and stays for another couple of hours and doesn't leave until I'm ready to leave. Then I don't see him again until the next morning. I will say though, he doesn't look like he's getting sleep. Is he okay?"

"Yes, don't worry Shunsuke. He's with Recovery Girl sleeping."

"Oh, that's great. Here, give this to him on my behalf. Three of the third years made it for him, I think you know them. Togata Mirio, Amajiki Tamaki, and Hado Nejire? They came in quite a few times and even sat down to read with the boy, though he never acknowledged them. I don't think he even knew they were there."

Shunsuke gave Shota acard with a double helix and on the inside it had a sloppy drawing of the three third years and Sans. It had "Invited" in big bold letters.

"HEY GASTER! You are invited to Nejire's place for a study party! Can't wait to see you there!"

Shota chuckled. Even when out of commission, Sans was able to befriend anybody.

"I'll make sure he gets it. Tell them that he's in the infirmary so they don't think they got stood up."

"No problem. Bye Shota."

"See ya."

Shota walked back down the hall, passing where he found Sans and straight into the science lab. The first thing he noticed was that it had recently been cleaned. Like, meticulously so. Cleaning supplies were still in the room and the room smelled like bleach. There was no sign of anyone being here except Sans.

White boards were everywhere. A strange language, resembling the ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs, that Shota couldn't make heads or tails out of, littered countless papers. The white boards held numerous equations that Shota was nowhere near smart enough to deal with. So he decided to call the one person who was. Or, was it a mouse bear?

<~>

"Hello Aizawa! To what do I owe the pleasure of your call?"

"Come down to the science lab in hall 1-A2."

"Why? The room should've been cleaned out by now."

"What?"

"It was a science lab, but since we've got better ones, I was planning to refurbish it into a study room for the second and third years."

"Well, it's currently still a science lab, in use. Get down here."

"Alright. On my way."

<~>

"Fascinating! These equations should be well above where Sans is in his studies."

"Well what do we know about his life from where he came from?"

"Nothing. When we interrogated him, he cleverly shifted our attention onto your charge with jokes, and Asriel's tragic and vicious past. All we know is that he and his family were skeletal monsters and his "quirk" is just magic. Other than that he was a blank slate, up until now."

"What do you mean?"

"He's obviously intelligent. I would say he is equal to or smarter than me. He is able to read and, assumedly, understand quantum physics and space time. Who's to say he doesn't know more."

"Right, well...we should leave everything here and wait for him to get well enough to explain everything."

"Well? I wasn't aware he was sick."

"He found out about that damn machine you had the Kirishima matriarch make to combat them if they got out of line."

"How'd he react?"

"Like any child who found out that the people you live with are so scared of you, that they're willing to kill you. He ran out of the house and is staying with Bakugo. Kirishima isn't even staying at the house. He was pissed at us and is staying with his friend Ashido."

"Hmm. I had suspected this as an outcome. Is he eating properly?"

"I don't think he's eating at all. Or sleeping for that matter. There was a shit ton of caffeine in his system, so he must've been guzzling coffee."

"I would like to see Sans. Is he awake yet?"

"No. He's with Recovery Girl and she'd call me if he woke up."

"Ahem, Shota. We have a problem at the infirmary."

"What's that issue?"

"Your class. Get down here and get them in line, before I really do break out my wooden spoon."

"Alright, we'll be there soon."

Nezu climbed up Shota's body and hid in his scarf while Shota ran down the hall. His class was standing outside the door with Recovery Girl in front of them.

"I am well aware you are worried about Gaster's wellbeing, but I cannot allow any of you in right now. He is resting! Aizawa, control your kids!"

"Alright, everyone pack it up and get back to the classroom."

Midoriya - "But Mr. Aizawa, what is wrong with Sans?!"

Sato - "Is he sick?"

Momo - "I can make him some medicine!"

Before the circus could continue, Shota had Iida escort them all back to the classroom.

"What a headache."

"You're telling me. Man, thanks for making them leave, teach."

Everyone's heads snapped back so quick, Recovery Girl was worried they got whiplash. Sans laid in the bed still, his right arm draped over his eyes and his left leg propped up.

"Mind dimming the lights a small bit? I feel like I just had a bender at Grillby's."

"You drink?"

"Used to. Can't really get a drink looking like this. I'd be laughed out the door. Damn I miss whiskey."

Shota dimmed the lights and sat next to Sans's bed.

"Sans, are you alright? You haven't been acting like yourself."

"Sorry. Finding out people want you dead, kinda puts a damper on your mood."

"If I may, Sans. No one wants you to die. It is a precaution. The machine doesn't even cause mental or physical damage. It just renders you unconscious. There are humans that would love to get their hands on you and force you to fight against us. I am very aware that you have a good head on your shoulders and would never fight us willingly. Do you understand now?"

"Sorta, I think. Can I leave now? I have some stuff I need to get back to - OW! What was that for?"

Recovery Girl stood next to his bed holding a pink, wooden spoon.

"I am done dealing with this attitude. You are not going anywhere right now, and so help me, if you set one toe out of this bed before I say so, you will not leave this office for a week. So lay there, shut your trap, and eat you food. Understood?"

"Y-yes ma'am!"

She smiled warmly and handed Sans a tray with two serving of katsudon, two oranges, a salad, a bottle of milk, and a juice box.

"You better eat all your food, or I'll have to give you a gastric feeding tube, and trust me, neither of us want that."

"W-what is a gastric feeding tube?"

"It's a tube that goes through your nose, down your throat, into your stomach, and it pumps liquidized foods into your stomach."

Sans ate a piece of the fried pork, very quickly making the small old lady smile at him.

"I'm going to the little ladies room. Call me if anything happens, Shota."

"Alright."

After she left the room Sans had already inhaled one of the pork cutlets with tears streaming down his face.

"It's so good."

"Good. Lunch Rush was offended you stopped eating his cooking."

"Why, he has over a hundred other children to feed. What difference do I make?"

"Yes, he does have a whole school to feed, but he told me that no one ate his cooking with as much enthusiasm as you."

"Heh, I'll go apologize to him after the Warden lets me leave."

"Splendid! Now, we were just in the science lab. You seem to have made your own. Care to explain what we saw?"

Katsuki and Eijirou once again snuck out of their classroom to listen in. Eijirou was nervous about Katsuki finding out about Sans, but he deserved to know.

Katsuki on the other hand was relieved that Sans was awake. Kirishima wouldn't let him go into the room, but didn't force them to leave either. He had the ring Sans made for him on a necklace chain he took from his mother's jewelry box. The gemstone turned into a ruby heart the second he touched it. Kirishima's ring had a light orange citrine heart shaped gem on his and he wore it on his right middle finger.

"Heh. I didn't think I'd have to deal with this yet. Fine. Ask me your questions, and I will answer them honestly, though I won't make that a promise."

Shota narrowed his eyes at the odd phrase, but didn't question it.

"Why haven't you been eating or sleeping?"

"I believe I slept and am still eating."

"Shota, let me ask the questions. Sans, can you explain to me the strange dialect in the lab? It is written on every single one of your papers."

"Shit. I didn't even notice. It's called WingDings. I'd speak to you, but this flesh suit isn't capable of producing the correct sounds. My old man taught it to me when I was still a little babybones."

"What was your father's name?"

"W.D Gaster. If you can't tell, his full name is WingDings Gaster, but nobody calls him that. Just Gaster."

"I see where you got the inspiration to make your alias."

"Nope, that was all Ichika. Told her about my dad and she came up with the name. It's weird that almost everyone calls me by my dad's name, but I got used to it."

"What was your job back in Snowdin?"

"A sentry. Back in the Underground humans would sometimes find their way in. It was my job to find them, catch them, and take them to the Royal Guard."

"I'm detecting humor, in your tone?"

"Yeah, I sucked at it. Never caught a single human, and never really cared to. If they left everyone be I didn't bother to deal with it. It was just a glorified naptime for me."

"Fascinating. However, I know that wasn't your only job."

"Heh, I knew there was a reason people called you the "smartest creature in the world." Yeah, I was the Royal Judge. When monsters, or humans, posed a threat to the King or those around them, or even just wanted to meet with the King, it was my job to judge them, and/or "deal" with them, if you catch my drift."

"So you were the Royal Judge, Jury, and Executioner. How did you decide who was good and evil?"

"By looking at their Soul of course. I'd show you yours, but my magic is too weak at the moment."

"How is your magic weak? You didn't seem to have this problem before?"

Sans ate his last orange slice and sighed heavily.

"Time for a Monster biology lesson. As you said, I haven't been eating or sleeping properly. Like your fleshy human bodies, Monster Magic is highly dependent on the Monster's energy. The past four days I have been working on no sleep and just enough magic to craft four rings for those I deem as closest to me. Katsuki, Eijirou, Asriel, and Papyrus. If they are in danger this ring,"

Sans showed the two adults a gold band with a swirling white and yellow gemstone in the shape of an upside down heart.

"will force me to shortcut to their location, depending on the severity of the danger they're in. It's a two way street though. If I'm in danger, the ring closest to my location will incessantly pull its bearer to me. Their bodies can't handle my shortcuts on their own, so the pulling method was the best I could do for them."

"That is quite the scientific feat. How did you manage it?"

Nezu had a smirk on his face, for whatever reason. Sans didn't care enough at the moment. He laughed, his pride overshadowing his humility.

"Well when your dad is the Royal Scientist and you are the lead scientist on Monster Magic and Souls, you tend to be pretty smart in certain things."

"Shota?"

"Yeah, I hooked up the nitrous oxide to his breathing thing. He should be high enough to speak freely without hiding anything."

"You're a hoot, Aizawa. Hehe, where's my Katsuki? I scared the shiznik outta him the other night. I want cuddles."

"What do you mean you scared him?"

"I had a nightmare about the RESET and I scared him. I can't stand the RESETs. I will make RESETs go bye bye! No more RESETs for this world! That's a funny word. REESSSEET."

"Sans, what was your nightmare about?"

"A RESET, obviously! It was a happy Christmas party with everyone there! Alphys and Undyne were even there! Everyone was having such a great time! That ham was amazing! Do you have ham here?"

"Sans, the nightmare?"

"Oh yeah! Then that damned human showed up and everyone dusted away right before my eyes. I couldn't save anybody then, so I am going to save them now. That damn human ruined my life in the Underground, they are not ruining it here."

Sans's face held a serious look, and his ring had a dark crimson color and started to mix with the white and yellow. That all disappeared when he looked at his closed fist and started panicking.

"Aizawa! My fingers are gone! Someone stole my fingers!"

"Open your hand, Sans."

Sans opened his hand and wiggled his fingers and started giggling.

"Aizawa found my fingers! Yay! Next round's on me boys!"

"Sans, what does it mean to, "dust away?"

"Dying, obviously! You sure are dumb. When a Monster dies, their body goes, poof! Their body crumbles and their dust is in a pile on the ground. I remember the first time Papyrus got dusted. It scarred me for life."

Despite the horrifying statement, Sans was playing with his hair and giggling. Nezu sucked in a breath and asked the heavy question.

"Sans, what is a RESET?"

Sans froze and his hands fell into his lap. He lifted his eyes to meet Nezu's somberly. His mood went from happy and giggly, to serious.

"A RESET is exactly what it sounds like. The damned human is called Frisk. They teamed up with Asriel's bloodthirsty sibling to kill every Monster in the Underground. Every single time, when they reached the Judgement Hall, I would kill them. Over and over and over again! They just kept RESETing and continuing their fight with me until...I, got dusted."

Everyone, Shota, Nezu, Eijirou, and Katsuki froze in horror. Sans never told Eijirou that he died. Katsuki, learning all of this at once, was taking it well, until he learned Sans had apparently died.

"No matter how many times they killed every Monster in the Underground, they RESET everything back to the beginning. I would wake up in my bed, from a nightmare that just kept happening. Do you know how frustrating that is? To be stuck in a time loop with some evil, bloodthirsty brat, and not being able to do anything about it, because you're the only damn Monster who remembers?! That, whenever you tried to tell the others they shunned you or brushed you off, like you were blowing smoke out your ass?! And when you finally end up somewhere, where there shouldn't be anymore RESETs, that damn kid and the damned spirit follow me here, to continue making my life a living hell!"

Tears streamed down his face as his hands gripped the bedsheets, so tightly his knuckles were turning pink. The glowing, blue tears snapped Katsuki out of his horrified state and he burst through the doors like a speeding bullet. In an instant he was at Sans's bedside, pushing Sans's face into his shoulder.

Eijirou and Recovery Girl stood next to Shota and Nezu while Sans cried his heart out. Recovery girl started shoving both Shota and Nezu out of her office. They had put her patient into emotional distress and drugged him?! That is grounds for a massive lawsuit! She scolded them heavily in the hall while she left Eijirou and Katsuki to calm Sans down.

"Katsuki?"

"What's up, Richter?"

"I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"Not telling you what I am or where I'm from."

Sans was sniffling and rubbing his face dry on Katsuki's blazer.

"I don't care. You are Sans, the student at the top of our year, winner of the Sports Festival, drinker of ketchup, and my boyfriend. You love your family and Echo Flowers. You are loyal to those you love. I don't need to know anything else."

"Not even my age?"

"You aren't fifteen?"

"This body is. Mentally, I'm over five hundred years old."

"Wow, you are an old fart. If that's the case why aren't you wise yet? Still drinking ketchup and making puns. You're you, nothing more to it."

Sans let a true, bright smile and a heartfelt laugh escape him. Then Eijirou had to ruin the moment.

"Bro! When'd you make it official?! I didn't know you two were boyfriends yet!"

Sans's face burst into blue flames and hid in Katsuki's chest. Katsuki, whose face was beet red, turned to the red head, whom he'd forgotten was still in the room.

"Get lost Shitty Hair! And if you tell anyone what I said, I'll kill you!"

"Sure thing Bakugo. Mina'll love this!"

Eijirou took off down the hall. He wasn't planning on telling anyone, but just wanted to rile Bakugo up.

"Thanks for being there for me Katsuki."

"Hmph, I'm not going to abandon you at your lowest, that's a dick thing to do. Get some sleep. The internships are in a week and you need to build your muscle mass again. So once Recovery Girl clears you, we're training."

"Ok...good night, Ground Zero."

Sans cuddled up to Katsuki after he made himself comfortable on the bed and soon after, quiet snores filled the room.
