32. One last drink

I could hear the shower running from where I was sitting on my bed. Hadrian had finally decided to take a break from me after spending most of the night... My cheeks heated up at the thought. While he cleaned up in the bathroom, I put on some underwear and a black robe then waited for him to finish so I could brush my teeth. The door unlocked but he didn't come out. I got up and knocked.

"Hadrian? Are you done?"

He opened the door to reveal his model like features. His black hair was slightly damp and small droplets of water ran down his chest which was bare. Dark jeans hung loosely on his hips, showing off his V line. I realised I was staring and lifted my eyes to look into his amused ones.

"Did you need something?" he asked with a smirk on his face.

"I-I need to brush my teeth," I grumbled, pushing past him.

"I'm not finished in here."

"That's nice to know."

I grabbed my toothbrush and began to rid my mouth of the foul smell of morning breath. Hadrian watched me for a moment then went back into my dorm, shaking his head. To say I was happy would be an understatement. Hadrian and I had reached a point where we weren't fighting or p*seed off with one another. Pia had probably already figured out that I broke my promise but my phone remained silent.

"We're going out," he announced once we were both fully clothed.

"To where?"

Hadrian handed me my coat and continued. "Breakfast then whatever you feel like doing. I'm all yours today."

I smiled lightly. "Lead the way."

My phone vibrated and Hadrian picked it up. He stared at the screen then looked at me. "Pia says she wants to talk to you."

"Just tell her that I'll call her later." I wasn't ready to deal with an angry best friend. He threw the phone to me when he finished replying.

We left the building and walked to the nearest McDonalds as he had 'lost' his car. Hadrian decided to sit at the back where it was quieter. We sat opposite each other then Hadrian looked thoughtful.

"I haven't had food from here for years," he said.

"Seriously?"

He shrugged. "It's not like they have fast food in the Underworld or in a boarding school."

"Why did you get put in boarding school anyway?" I asked.

"I was in a public school for supernaturals till I was 13 then my dad dumped me there after I tried to kill Noah for the first time."

He said it so casually. "You tried to kill him at 13?"

"I lost my wings because of him so that was the only thing that came to mind at the time. Ryan moved with me because his parents got fed up that he wouldn't go to his lessons without me."

"You two are really close," I pointed out.

Hadrian grinned. "He's my brother. I'd do anything for him."

"What about Seth?"

"Seth is different. I respect him but most of the time he's a d*ck. Now, what do you want to eat?"

I told him what I wanted then he went to order. My phone rung again and I saw Pia's name on the screen. Tired of avoiding her, I picked up.

"Yes?"

"B*TCH, WHY HAVEN'T YOU PICKED UP?!"

"I'm with Hadrian."

"I know. That's why I'm calling you," she said.

"I'm sorry I broke our-"

"Shut up, Ree. I knew you'd fall for him and that's why I tried to protect you from him."

"What do you mean?"

I heard Ryan's voice in the background. "Pia, don't you f*cking dare tell her."

"She has every right to know. And she would have found out sooner or later," Pia told him.

"It might not have been what it looked like," he replied.

"That's why I'm letting her decide. Rhea, I sent you a video. Watch it before you do anything."

She hung up and a video popped up. I saw that it was in a club or party but unmistakably Hadrian was in it. A pretty girl was crying over him and his brother fighting over her.

Seth leaned over him, grinning.

"Hadrian, give up. She loves me the most."

Hadrian swung his arm and hit him in the face. The girl continued crying. Seth stumbled as Hadrian got up. He glared at at his brother then tackled him to the ground.

"She's mine. I love her," he growled.

I turned off my phone then let it drop to the table. My mind went through all the possibilities of what could have happened. I felt cold. Rain patted against the window, reflecting my mood. I wouldn't jump to conclusions. They may have been friends. I closed my eyes and rested my head on my arms.

"What's wrong?" Hadrian asked, surprising me as I didn't hear him return.

I glanced up then shook my head, not sure what to say. "Did you go to a club recently?"

"Yes." His grey eyes looked confused.

"And did you fight over a girl?"

"F*ck," he muttered, finally realising what I was talking about. "Rhea..."

"I don't want excuses. Do you love her? Because I'm not going to be the girl on the side."

Hadrian looked behind me and seemed to turn angry. "I love her but I can't explain this to you. Not now."

My heart seemed to shatter. "I don't want to play this game with you again, Hadrian. We go around in circles and I'm exhausted."

He kept his eyes trained on whatever was keeping his attention then turned to me. "I'm not playing games. I have f*cking feelings for you if you didn't realise."

"But you love her."

"I do."

I waited for him to explain but he didn't. So I got up and started leaving. He followed me and I could feel his anger rolling off him.

"Rhea! Wait!"

I whirled round and put up my hands to distance myself from him when he reached out. "Don't you even f*cking touch me, Hadrian. I don't want to assume things but you're not helping."

"You don't understand."

"Of course, I don't! You won't tell me."

I was now outside and the rain was getting worse and worse. Luckily, it hid the tears that were slowly forming. Hadrian managed to grab my arms, pulling me towards him.

"Please, don't leave me," he whispered.

"Who is she, then?"

He sighed. "F*cking hell. Why can't being with you be simple?"

"Wrong answer."

"She's my...ex girlfriend."

I tried to move away from him but he held on tighter. I couldn't breathe. I needed to get away from him. "Okay."

"Please, Rhea," he pleaded.

"No, Hadrian. Just let me go."

And he did.
