CHAPTER 4
A huge commotion took over Darkwick Academy, so huge it drew everyone's attention in, even that guy who suddenly chose to shut himself in his grand icy blue room far from anyone's reach and sightings. Only one person would enter to give reports or updates.
Jin Kamurai took a long drag of his cigarette, he felt irritated because he was jolted out of his sleep. "The fuck?" But no one was present in the room to cause his wake, then there it was the wave of danger from beyond Frostheim's walls, his eyebrows furrowed, something that powerful managed to penetrate the barrier in his room. It was designed to be soundproof so no anomaly or usage of stigma would disturb him. "What the hell is happening now?" Damn it, he hated being bothered like this.
From across the room came a knock followed by it being pushed open, Tohma Ishibashi came inside—pristine and composed as always. His never-bending composure would both astonished and pissed off Jin depending on his mood. "Perfect timing, you are up" His lips were curved into an amused smile.
"Is this your doing? You bastard" Jin grumbled, glaring daggers at the vice-captain of his House, he ran a hand through his silver-white hair. The cigarette he was smoking was a means to at least reign in his temper.
Tohma was unfazed as expected, "I would want to but unfortunately this is no game to irk you, Jin. A couple of anomalies escaped their cages and Behemoth just so happened to be one, everyone is freaking out not sure what triggered the frenzy"
Hearing this, Jin set aside his annoyance and irritation. "Huh" The Behemoth was a destructive giant malevolent anomaly with a huge form, it was locked inside a special container that sucked it in despite its size. He hated that creature as he already dealt with it before, "That monster wouldn't go ballistic unless it's hungry" Behemoth feeds on the pure and shiny, any light or individual with a generous heart it targets.
"I hate to say that I will have to drag you out of here now, the general students are not doing a good job placating the anomalies and the other ghouls were not doing a great deal of damage to the escapees" Tohma didn't sound joking, his eyes glinted seriousness.
Jin tch-ed and turned away, he didn't like getting involved in anything or anyone. Maybe before sure but he wasn't the same as last year or two. "The fuck would you need me there for?" He hated how bitter he sounded.
"You are still an able fighter even without your stigma" Tohma stated bluntly and his words were piercing arrows to Jin's pride.
Yeah he couldn't use his stigma properly, he fucking hated it, not being able to utilize it—one of the main reasons he shut himself off. But something was luring him to come out of his grand icy room. Whatever it was. "You're coming too, asshole"
This made Tohma chuckle as he followed his Captain out, "You and your word choices, you gotta polish that once you take over your family company. Not a good way to build rapport with people--"
"Shut the fuck up"
---
Oh gosh, hell.
Everywhere were monsters—varying sizes, forms, and skills. The chancellor referred to them as Anomalies, existence that weren't supposed to be in this flow of normalcy. Mary was frozen in shock uncertain where to focus her attention first, she remained obscured by the long black silky veil whilst the students around her shifted their eyes onto the Anomalies. But they weren't enough, she heard the guy called Romeo complaining how they ended up stronger.
Lucas was staying true to his words, he never went off too far from Mary's side, "Stay put, this will be over soon, Mary" He was reassuring her despite the obvious struggle fighting against the creatures.
Whereas Kaito Fuji was endlessly screaming, freaking out while running away from the anomalies but he took out an elegant-looking bow, shooting at them with eyes closed. "No! Damn it! How am I going to make Mary like me with all these nasty creatures—one at a time only! AAAHHH! I'm supposed to be the knight here, not Luca!"
The crowd was panicking more, they headed back to the campus away from the sharp gazes of the anomalies while some students stayed back to fend off these creatures. 'Ghouls, the students who made a pact with demons to get a power--' Mary saw from her hiding that Haku was there along with two guys who wore the same purple color scheme in their uniforms. Were they in the same dorm? Another pair came, these two reminded her of Vil and Rook but the tall guy holding a huge sword was carved from ice, even his eyes were an angry icy blue while his companion was wielding an equally huge medieval-style axe.
Mary tried garnering comfort and security by hugging Grim closer to her. She wanted to close her eyes but that might be a bad idea, she still remembered that huge-eyed anomaly on the train. The one who cursed her and Grim.
"What the fuck did you all do?!" Jin Kamurai was pissed off but he was smoothly able to fight back and hurt the anomalies.
Kaito was still shrieking like no tomorrow was coming. "We did not! They just escaped!"
"Now is not the time to be fighting, we must stay connected to take care of the problem" Subaru Kagami, Hotarubi Captain advised and he sounded meek compared to Jin's strong words.
Romeo was running out of patience and bullets. "Where the hell are the teachers and staff members?! Why are we dealing with this shit on our own?!"
"HEY! DO NOT START A PARTY WITHOUT ME!" Taiga Hoshibami made a surprise jump from above and began shooting glass shards.
His vice-captain didn't like that, he almost got wounded. "Idiot! Watch where you shoot, you're going to put a scratch on my smooth skin!" Romeo was super stressed.
"Thanks for the help, lovely students!" Professor Hyde made a random appearance somewhere he too was occupied as an anomaly was after him.
Haku sighed, "Seems like our teachers won't be able to help us, they are also busy, this is too much"
"You tell me! This is disturbing my zen and moment of crafting creativity!" Zenji Kotodama, also from Hotarubi said exaggeratedly. "An all-breakout of the blue!"
Sweat trickled from Mary's temple, and she swallowed hard. They won't make it, the Anomalies were sucking their attacks, making it bigger and stronger. An idea came to mind but she wasn't sure if she should do it, she was hesitant and she wanted to get out of this, that was the priority.
'But if I leave them here with this chaos, they might get hurt and die...'
Giving into the inner voice pushing her to do the idea, Mary placed Grim down and went out of hiding, running towards the open space near the Anomalies.
Kaito saw her, his eyes popping out in shock. "Mary...! What are you doing?!" He tripped and fell on his face.
Even Lucas was surprised. "Mary, no! Please do not come out it's dangerous!"
Ignoring their calls and concentrating in herself, Mary held her hands flat on the concrete ground. "Voice of my home please come forth, please show them your vibrant and bloom." Then it glowed, like a mass tranquility taking over the surrounding—grass, wildflowers, and floral vines sprouted everywhere. She noticed the Anomalies moving uncomfortably, shuddering as if it was burning; however Mary also felt exhaustion, she was losing it. 'I can't, not yet...'
The candid light engulfed the open space.
Mary panted, feeling heavier and dizzy. She was nauseous. "It w-worked..." While still being cloaked in light, she saw the veil float a little from her and then, as she reached out for it, the veil transformed into a ring around her finger.
Minutes later, the light finally vanished, the anomalies were gone and encased inside huge plant seeds which dropped onto the ground. There were crawling flowers and greenery everywhere, causing everyone to feel dumbfounded and startled.
"What the hell?" Taiga even had some flower petals stuck on his hair.
Meanwhile, Mary tried getting up, she was shivering and feeling more sick. Her vision was blurry. The people around her were hazy. "H-Haku?" He was the first one she saw close by and Mary tried going to him.
"Mary, no! Call my name, I'm the one who should—aaargghhh!!!" Kaito felt like an epic failure again because he missed a moment with Mary, this was supposed to be a touchy, sappy dramatic scene where he would hold her close after everything.
But Haku was the one who approached the redhead, catching her in his arms before she fell and he held her close, "Mary, you're burning up" He said with a frown after placing the back of his hand on her forehead. "...What did you do?" His mind backpedaled to the candid light and the blossoming of flowers, and grasses everywhere.
Tohma picked up the plant seeds which contained the anomalies they fought, "What a strange yet powerful skill to have..."
"You are an odd one, aren't you?" Haku had a small smile on his face, he carried her properly in his arms, lifting her off the ground.
Mary hid her face on his chest unconsciously. "You're the one to talk..." And she went to sleep.
"Oy, assholes, don't try anything bad on that dense princess or should I roast your butts now?" Grim was up on his feet, despite still being in pain and unwell, he was able to conjure some of his blue fire, just enough to set these guys on fire.
