❄️ CHAPTER 14

It was half an hour already! How dare that girl with red hair make him wait?! And worse, she made Jin send more messages in one go! Now it looked like he was too desperate!

Jin furrowed his eyebrows, encased in an unseen bad mood while his left hand was gripping his expensive phone of which he became tempted to throw—buying a new one wouldn't be an issue. "Where the hell is that servant?!" He gritted his teeth. "I told her to be in my room before sunrise" That was the intended time Mary was required to be in the Frostheim Captain's bedchamber for a reason to provide help for Jin to get ready and to bring his breakfast.

The freaking spoiled frosty prince or King in the making that he was.

An amused snicker came from the other person allowed in his room—of course it was none other than Tohma, the only guy with the balls to either become sarcastic or taunt him. "That is such a sweet way of saying you missed her" The Frostheim vice-captain was currently arranging some documents on the study table. "Why are you still angry? Were you not happy I was the one who brought your breakfast tray?" His tone remained teasing, "You want to see that little Red in a maid outfit, huh?"

"Oy, crash those nasty train of thoughts on a wall you malicious bastard" Jin did not hide the contempt and disdain on his face, rolling his eyes and turning away but there was no mistaking that he had a sulking aura mixed with the bad mood. "Tell me what you got" The topic now swerved to the case they were handling, he got Tohma acquire further data after Lucas reported what they experienced during the stay at the orphanage yesterday.

In a quick switch, fun time was set aside and Tohma turned serious as he shared what he found. "Confirming accuracy on the part about the boy they met," He held a document showing the picture of a boy in the wheelchair and there was another picture where the boy was with another child who shared his identical features. "After his birthday party recently, he began sharing nonsensical stories to his twin brother about the healer being a monster but of course no one believed him"

"Hard to believe that when they are spoiled in the mansion and get all the stuff they want"

"Yes true and it only makes this whole missing children case more dangerous"

--

Yuri was holding Grim with both hands, occasionally he would slightly shake or squeeze him like a plushie. "Oy, you experimental stuffed toy, can you repeat what you called us earlier hm? You are truly disrespectful!" The Mortkranken's domineering captain never released Grim from his hold since that snarky remark that came out of the latter's lips about them being a pair of freaks.

"Damn it you unhinged bastard! Stop shaking me! I am not a stuffed toy!" Grim was not just getting dizzy but the fact that this dumbass regarded him openly not as a mage or equal but as a freaking cute stuffed animal or something, hell, that was insulting.

But Yuri Isami did not stop, he would ingrain an unforgettable lesson in this stuffed toy's head. "You will learn to be grateful! I wasn't even finished with you yet and you already requested the Chancellor to allow you get discharged from our dorm!" Ever since Grim arrived to Mortkranken House, he presented the pair of student scientists the most interesting project—under multiple tests they confirmed Grim was not an anomaly but possessed heightened senses and ability to conjure elemental magic, that was beyond compelling!

Above them in the bedroom area of this Cathedral, Mary was alone with the towering Jiro Kirisaki—she had been quite intimidated not only by Jiro's height but also because his voice was so deep.

Her cheeks remained warm and tinged with pink the whole time this check-up happened. "Are we done soon?" Mary changed into a white patient robe earlier and fortunately Jiro did not ask her to do anything weird for the check-up but the occasional touch on the shoulder, him accidentally breathing too close on her neck, it was enough to make a girl flustered, alright?

Jiro had this bored expression whilst writing on a clipboard, "Mm hmm, yes, you are quite healthy and alright. Nothing unusual" Afterwards, he turned those dark red orbs to Mary, "The Chancellor tasked us to do a thorough research on the anomaly and curses you've been given, Yuri believed what you've been told was merely a surface scratch.

A loud sound from below, the door was kicked open and appeared was the person Mary least expected to see to drop by. "Damn it, Mary! You are already late for an hour...!"

Even Grim and Yuri stopped their bickering at the sudden grand entrance.

Grim blinked, having a question mark above his head. "Jin? What the hell? Tohma said you're a shut-in"

Seeing who was in the Cathedral only increased Jin Kamurai's frustration, so they were the reason Mary was late huh? These bastards. He did not hide the hostility in his icy blue eyes. "What are two spiteful rubbish doing in here? Get the hell out"

Instead of getting riled up or offended by the Frostheim Captain's word choices, Yuri released Grim and shook his head with matching hand gestures. From above where the bedroom was, Mary saw this, indirectly being reminded of how Azul behaved.

"Typical, unapproachable as ever!" In those turquoise eyes, a flash of manic interest gleamed as Yuri did not hesitate facing the towering Frostheim Captain. "But I'd never expect I'd see the day you will suddenly leave your hell hole and be out in the daylight!"

Jin ignored the Mortkranken Captain's obvious jabbing, poking at him to get a hostile reaction. He didn't have time for these bastards, they weren't his goal. He was met by Jiro descending the staircase leading to Mary's bedroom space.

"We are finished here" This was the only clip statement from Jiro, those eyes and overall mood was bored.

The atmosphere only went further South after Jiro and Yuri left—as Jin was quite insistent in having them disappear, he didn't like to be near these two, Grim noticed how much contempt he held for them which begged him to wonder why.

Mary came downstairs, still garbed only in the long sleeves polo reaching the middle of her thighs. "You didn't have to be that rude--"

"No shut up you don't get a say in this" There was no hesitation when Jin harshly interrupted the redhead, he was already in the worst mood today because he hadn't gotten breakfast yet and he practically went here himself! "I sent you messages to drop by the dorm pronto, are you intentionally making me reach out desperately? Do you get a kick out of that?!" His words were uncontrollable.

The redhead was blown away by these out-of-the-blue accusations, "Excuse me?! What kind of assumptions are these?! I did not expect them to drop by and the check-up wasn't just for 10 minutes!"

Grim did not join in, he only witnessed Mary explode like this since they came to this world. Wow, the things a different world can do to a girl...at the back of his head he wondered how Riddle or the others would react if Mary responded to them this way.

"Hm?" His attention got diverted away from Jin and Mary, Grim was standing across a mirror and squinting those electric blue eyes...there was something small but noticeable on his nape. From afar it didn't look important, would be easily mistaken as a dirt or fur pattern.

But Grim knew he never had a pattern like this on his back; he came closer to the mirror and there he saw...a strange flower-like symbol. 'Where did I get this from?'

--

Tonight, they would put an end to this case for good and confront the anomaly hiding beneath the guise of righteousness inside the Orphanage Mansion before it caused more danger. Lucas and Kaito had completed their task for the day of going espionage around the property, confirming they weren't really going crazy at whatever weird things they heard in the people's conversation inside. Something about a grand feast that would feed many mouths. They also managed to speak with the boy who was the first witness to the secret horror in the orphanage albeit he refused expounding more.

"Such a tiring day, time is so slow without Mary with us" Kaito yawned with his shoulders slumped and no longer had any straight posture as they made way to the train station.

Lucas, as expected, wasn't losing any composure and barely appeared tired. "We did good despite lacking in members" Their redhead companion was not present in their task today stating she was suddenly under the weather and insisted on taking a different train station to head back to Darkwick Academy. "I hope Mary is alright"

"Yeah, she did appear sour or not in the mood the entire time, I thought she really wasn't feeling it"

The chaotic duo was encased in a still silence as both were lost in their own thoughts.

Kaito's calling broke the silence, "Hey Luca...do you think...Mary got upset with me beating our senpai the other day?" Concern was heavily visible on his face while he sat on the waiting bench. "We have not talked about it yet and she never brought it up..."

"Kaito, why do you believe Mary is upset about what you did?" Lucas blinked, genuinely confused at his friend's sudden anxiousness towards the situation.

Kaito rubbed the back of his nape, looking away. "C'mon dude, you freaking saw it when I kissed her near the lips" Recalling this particular memory would make him both flustered and nervous. "I didn't know what came to me...I just...all I thought was...I wanted to make a mark on her"

"...I would have done the same" The reply from Lucas was barely audible and unheard by Kaito.
