Chapter 8: The Big Four Are The Big Four Idiots
Well, this is it. We had so much fun together, saving my life and all. Just imagine all the things we could have done together. The things we could have seen. I'm just so sorry I have to let you go. Lots of people said we were the perfect match, that we were meant for each other. But it was never meant to be. I just hope we can meet again. Even though-
"Will you hurry it up already?" The office lady demanded.
I dropped the jacket in the lost and found box in surprise. "Right, sorry."
The lady raised an eyebrow. "You seem pretty attached to that jacket. If no one comes to pick it up, I'll give it to you."
I smiled. "Thanks. Bye now."
I left the office and sighed. I'm going to miss that jacket. But even I know I'm overreacting. The bell rang for 2nd period, and I panicked. This overreacting is nothing compared to what happened this morning. But thanks to my quick wit and cleverness, I got through this morning.
I woke up on the couch with the sun on my face. There was a blanket covering me, I never remembered falling asleep with a blanket. I groaned and accidentally fell of the couch, landing on my coccyx also known as the tailbone.
"Ow," I groaned. "My coccyx."
After many failed attempts, I finally got up from the floor and looked around. They were all gone, all of the guys left. It was like they never were here. The living room looked really clean, like someone vacuumed the whole place. The TV was still blaring, pausing to show a picture of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow running away from a angry mob of natives.
"Luis? Cyrus? You guys?" I asked. "Where are you?"
My mom came out of the kitchen, and I nearly fainted.
"I was right here in the kitchen." My mom told me. "I saw you were asleep on the couch and didn't bother to wake you. Why were you sleeping on the couch anyway?"
"Monsters under my bed," I blurted put the first thing that popped into my head, which happens to be the dumbest.
She raised an eyebrow. "I thought you stopped having those nightmares when you were around Adam's age."
"The nightmares came back." I explained to her. "So I came here to watch a movie that would conk me to sleep."
"I see." She walked towards me and stopped. She looked around the room. "Why is their blood on the couch, why are their blood on all of the couches?"
"It's my time of the month!" I blurted out again.
"It is?" She asked incredulously. "I'm sure it's always-"
"I got it early." I said, cutting her off. "And I realize it during the movie, but it was already too late. There was this huge stain on the couch."
"But why is their blood on the other couches?"
"Nosebleed!"
"You got a nosebleed?"
"Yeah..." I said, thinking of my next move. Come on Autumn think. You're a writer, once you start a story you got to finish it.
"While I was running around the room for a pad, I crashed into a wall since it was so dark. My nose started to bleed and I panicked all around the house, scattering the blood on the couches." I said, the story making itself.
"Okay..." My mom said, still not believing my story. But really, who will? "I'm just glad you didn't die from blood loss."
I grinned. I hope the guys didn't die from blood loss before I kill them when I see them agin at school. "Me too."
As I walked through the hallway to my English class, someone jumped on me. Hugging me from behind, and lifting me off the ground, I was about to scream for help but a hand clamped over my mouth.
"It's only us Autumn!"
I didn't have to turn around to know who it us means.
"Luis." I scolded. "Don't do that!"
He laughed. "I couldn't help it!"
Cyrus, Dean and Wyatt appeared in front of me. They all looked like last night never happened. That they came into my house all battered up and I had to treat them. Though there were some traces of bruises and scars, they looked they were doing fine. All of them had a smile plastered on their faces, even Wyatt. I smiled back, I was glad they were okay.
Dean picked me up. "You're great Autumn!"
"Three cheers for Autumn!" Luis exclaimed.
"Funny. But I'm still mad at you guys for this morning."
Cyrus raised an eyebrow. "What did we do?"
I explained what happened this morning. When I was finished they all burst out laughing.
"Autumn, you're a genius!" Dean said.
"We all bow down to your cleverness." Luis, said, bowing down to me.
The other guys looked at each other, then bowed to me as well. I smiled, you don't get the Big Four bowing to you everyday.
"Rise," I told them.
"Yes, m'lady." They said in unison.
"So what are you guys doing here?" I asked. "It's second period, shouldn't you be in your classes?"
Wyatt smirked. "We're ditching. Care to join us?"
"What? No way!"
Luis and Dean pouted. "Please Autumn, it wouldn't be as fun without you."
"Nice try, but we'll get caught if I went with you."
"No we won't. We're never caught," Dean said proudly.
"You guys," Luis said, talking to Cyrus and Wyatt. "Help us."
Wyatt sighed. "If talking won't do it, force will."
I looked at him. "What do you mean by-"
Wyatt picked me up, making me yelp. Then he swung me over his shoulder. I did my best to make him put me down. But it was like when Shrek picked up Princess Fiona and she couldn't do anything to stop him. I looked at Luis, Dean and Cyrus who were walking behind me as Wyatt walked through the hallways.
"Put me down!" I begged. "A teacher's going to catch us!"
"A lot of the teachers and staff are in a meeting with Principal Fowlman," Cyrus explained, smiling.
"Someone will notice! I'm never absent at school!"
"Now, now Princess." Wyatt said. "Don't make up such excuses."
Luis smirked. "You call Autumn, Princess, Wyatt?"
Wyatt didn't reply and just gave him the finger.
"He's horrible at picking nicknames," I explained to them, whispering really loudly.
Wyatt tickled my side, making me burst out laughing. "I heard that," he told me.
"I really, really want to go to class," I told them.
"And we really, really don't want you to," Dean replied.
I suddenly had an idea. I reached my arms to Wyatt's neck and started to tickle him. He stopped and sighed.
"Nice try Autumn, but I'm not ticklish."
I pouted. "Aw."
"His waist," Cyrus whispered to me, so Wyatt wouldn't hear.
Luis and Dean pointed to their own sides, to show me.
"His waist is his weakness," Cyrus said. "Trust me."
I nodded and reached to his sides. I began to tickle him and Wyatt snorted. Gotcha!
Wyatt said through gritted teeth. "Princess stop."
"Stop what?" I asked innocently.
I heard a chuckle come out of him. "No really stop."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Autumn!" He begged. Oh this is new, Wyatt never begs.
He began to wobble, trying to keep his balance. He started to laugh, and trying to stop. He tickled me back, and I started to laugh to as I tickled him. It was a tickle war between the two of us. The guys were already laughing at him for trying to keep his pride. I never seen Wyatt like this. The famous Wyatt, and his weakness is being tickled.
"Stop it! I'm going to fall!"
"Timber!" I said, laughing.
But it's already too late. He was falling backwards and fell onto the floor. I toppled over him as Wyatt gasped for air. I got off of him, grinning like an idiot.
I laughed. "Are you okay Wyatt?"
"Yeah, I'm-" He winced in pain, holding his chest.
My eyes widened. "You're hurt! I forgot, that- Why are you even at school?" I demanded.
I looked at the guys who had a guilty look on their faces.
"When we left we headed to Wyatt's house." Dean told me.
"Wyatt kept telling us that he was okay and that he could go to school." Cyrus said with a sigh. "Dean and I didn't want him to go."
"But I sided with Wyatt since we should at least meet up you since you helped us," Luis said, I bet regretting with his decision.
"You idiots," was all I could tell them. "Including you Wyatt." I said, seeing that he was still holding his side from pain.
"Wyatt needs professional medical treatment, mine is barely 3rd class." Telling them what they know is true. "We have to take him to the hospital."
"No," Wyatt said, sitting up. "I'm fine."
"You're in no position to refuse," I reasoned with him. "You have to go."
"I said no." He said, this time angry. "Since when can you tell me what to do?"
"Since you came to my house, half dead. That's when." I said, getting angry myself.
Wyatt gritted his teeth. "Who died and made you king of anything?"
Why is he talking me like this? What did I even do?
"If you're going to be like that, then fine! Go wither away in pain, not my problem anymore!"
I stood up and picked up my backpack. The guys looked on the ground, even Wyatt didn't have anything to say.
Luis stepped forward. "Autumn, Wyatt doesn't mean-"
"He meant every word," I spat.
I looked at Wyatt who was still looking on the ground, not bothering to tell me I was wrong. I tsked, he was just helping me prove my point. Having enough of this, I turned my heel and walked to class. After all I did for them, and this is the thanks I get? They are Big Four idiots.
I arrived to English class when Ms. Hansen was taking attendance.
"Thank you for joining us Ms. Griffin. Please take your seat," she said barely looking up.
"Okay." I took a seat and set my head down.
"Since I'm still grading your essays, we'll be having a free day in class."
Everyone cheered then got up from their seats to sit next to their friends. The only people in this class who are my friends are Lauri and Carmen, but their both absent. I sighed, this will be a boring period. I was about to take a short nap or something went someone poked both of my sides, making me jump from my seat.
Bradley burst out laughing. "Sorry I couldn't help it Autumn."
I forced a smile. "Yeah."
He stopped laughing. "You okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine."
"No you're lying. What's wrong?"
"Nothing," I set my head back on the table.
I thought he would leave, but I suddenly felt a poke on my arm. Then another poke. And another and another.
"Bradley stop."
Poke.
"Stop it."
Poke.
"I'm serious."
Poke.
"I am not kidding."
Poke.
"Leave me alone."
Poke.
"One more poke and I'll snap your finger in two."
He didn't poke me.
"Thank-"
Poke.
I sat up and glared at him. He glared back at me, only he was smiling. I didn't want to deal with this, so I sat back down.
"I'm really not in the mood Bradley."
"It was Wyatt, wasn't it?" He asked me.
"No," I denied to quickly.
"What did he do?"
"He did nothing." I lied. "Now can you please stop?"
He ruffled my hair like Luis and Dean do. "Okay, Autumn. But I'm not leaving."
I fixed my hair. "Whatever."
We talked about ourselves, since there was nothing else to do. We talked about out favorite colors and subjects, and stories we shared. Bradley was really a nice, funny guy, but he's a bit cocky. I can't believe I've never even glanced at him, much less knew his name for about half a school year. I honestly feel a bit bad.
Once class was done, we walked out together. He was even sweet enough to walk me to my next class.
"I know you don't want to talk about it. But I just want you to know that I'm here for you." Bradley told me.
I smiled at him. "Thanks."
He held out his arms, asking for a hug. And I gave him one. I looked up and saw Wyatt watching us, then quickly turning away to go into class. I frowned, what's his problem?
The day went by fast, and it was after school. I stayed in the library to finish my homework since my mom told me that she'll pick my brother up and that I should head home directly. When it was around 6, I left the school. I stopped by 7 Eleven first to buy a slushy, since I earned it for going through the day. As I was sipping away my slushy, I looked into my wallet to find I don't have anymore money.
"Are you kidding me? I thought I had one more dollar."
I sighed. I guess I'll just have to walk it home. I pulled out my Beats headphones I got for my birthday and my iPod. I played a random song and put my headphones on and walked to my house. My house is pretty far from the school, but I could use the exercise.
As I walked, my favorite song came up. King of Anything by Sara Bareilles. I looked around to see if anyone was walking near me, and there wasn't. So thanks to that, I burst into song.
"Keep drinking coffee stare me down across the table, while I look outside." I sang, each verse I got louder. "So many things to say, if only I were able. But I just keep quiet and count the cars that past by. You got opinions man, we're all entitled to them. But I never asked."
I could help but twirl, and noticed a dark figure walking a few yards away from me. But I didn't pay attention to it. "So let me thank you for your time, and try not to waste anymore of mine. And get out out of here fast. I hate to break it to you, babe. But I'm not drowning, there's no one here to save."
Here's my favorite part, the chorus. "Who cares if you disagree? You are not me, who made you king of anything?! So you dare tell me who to be. Who died and made you king of anything?"
That made me stop short.
"Who died and made you king of anything?"
Wyatt said that to me, spat it on my face. The song is about being independent, saying, "I could make my own decisions." Maybe I was being a bit too bossy. But I shook that thought away. I'm not being bossy, I was helping that ungrateful jerk. And all he does is strut around school, not caring and not thanking anyone who helps him.
I was about to keep on walking when I felt the presence of someone behind me. Shivers went down my spine, this can't be good. I glanced behind me to see that the guy was just standing there, staring at me. He work black clothing with his hood up. My eyes widened, how can I be so stupid?
I started to walk, and I could here his footsteps following me. I quicken my pace, and he matched it.
What do I do? If I call the cops, he'll finish the job before they get here in time. And my house is blocks away, I can't outrun him to my house. I looked around, no one was on the streets to help me. It was getting dark, I looked at my phone to see it was 7. I spotted an alleyway that looked it would be a short cut to my house.
I ditched my slushy then ran into the alley. But I quickly found out it was a dead end.
"Oh no." I whispered.
I turned around to see the guy was blocking my way. Then five more appeared next to him. I could hear my heart pounding, I bet they could here it to. They stepped closer to me, and I stumbled backwards. Then quickly stood up.
"Please don't do this," I begged them.
The one that followed me took off his hood, revealing his face. He looked around my age, maybe older. I couldn't help but notice he was a bit good looking, but the thought vanished when I remembered the situation I was in.
He smirked. "Don't do what, sweetheart? We just want some company."
"I-I'll give you money. Just- just don't hurt me."
He walked over to me, making me back up against the wall. I could feel his breathing on my neck, and I tried not to gag.
"And why will I do that?"
I couldn't reply, my lips were trembling. I've never been so scared in my life. He lifted my chin, having me stare into his blue eyes.
"We're not going to hurt you. We just want some fun, that's all."
I closed my eyes, preparing for the worst. I felt his hand snaking around my waist, I was trembling so much you could see it a mile away. I could feel his face coming closer to mine. But I put my hands on his chest, pushing him away.
"Don't. Don't." I said, with pleading eyes.
But all he did was laugh. He looked back at his friends. "I love it when they beg."
I wasn't going to go down without a fight. I slapped his across the face, leaving him stunned for a moment. He punched me, making my head knock against the wall. I felt a throbbing pain on my cheek, I silently slid down onto the cold floor.
"Get away from her!" I heard someone yell.
The guy was yanked backwards. I watched in terror as I saw a guy on top of him, punching him. He wouldn't stop, he just gave him a series of punches. I saw that the other guy was no match, he wasn't able to fight back. I started to pity the guy who was getting beaten up so badly, his opponent is twice his size.
With each punch the guy made, he yelled. "When. I. Get. Through. With. You. No. One. Will. Recognize. You!"
I looked behind them to see three other guys were also fighting the previous ones. And they didn't stood a chance either. Two of them already ran away when they could see that they can't do anything but save themselves.
"You bastard!" I heard one of them scream. "You better pray you didn't touch her!"
"I'm going to beat you to pulp so much, that your kids will have inherit your bruises!"
"You were askin' for this the moment you looked at her!"
I shut my eyes tightly and tried to cut off all the sounds, I'm so scared. I've never witnessed a real fight at school before, and I see why. Even through years of watching police shows, I can't believe I wasn't ready to see a real fight. There was blood all over the place, and I could hear snaps of broken ribs and arms. I flinched at every time I hear a crack of an arm, or the cry for mercy of someone. Tears were welling up to my eyes, are they going to hurt me after they were done with them? I hugged my knees, silently sobbing.
Things suddenly quiet down. I slightly looked up to see four figures standing in front of me. One of them spit what looked like blood on the floor, then wiped his mouth. I looked on the ground, noticing a pool of blood. Maybe if I be quiet, they would leave me alone.
I felt an arm on my shoulder. "Are you alright, Princess?"
Princess? Only one person called me that. I looked up to see a familiar pair of gray eyes with a tint of green.
"W-Wyatt?"
He smiled, then noticed my bruise. He touched my cheek, rubbing his thumb over it. "Did you got hurt?"
I couldn't care less about the bruise. I lunged for him knocking him onto the ground, hugging him tightly. I felt him tense at the sudden distribution of kindness as I put it. But then he hugged me back, stroking my hair.
"I'm sorry, Autumn." Wyatt muttered. "I was an idiot who thought he didn't need help."
"I'm sorry too. I didn't mean to act like I was your mom, bossing you around like that."
I heard someone cough. I looked to see Dean and Luis waiting for me with their arms spread out.
"Well?" Luis asked. "Is Wyatt going to be the only one to get some sugar?"
"We're waiting for our turn, y'know." Dean said.
I laughed and hugged them too.
"Are you okay little Autumn?" Luis said ruffling my hair.
"Do you want us to serve their heads to you on a silver platter?"
"Sure. But I'd like it well done."
I even hugged Cyrus who was also not used to hugs from me unlike Dean and Luis. But the awkward moment passed and he hugged me back.
"I'm glad you're okay, Autumn." He told me.
"How did you guys find me?" I asked, when we were in Wyatt's car.
"We ditched school after 4th period and hanged around the area." Cyrus explained. "Luis and Dean were rambling on and on how much Wyatt was a jerk to you."
Wyatt glared at Cyrus who shrugged.
"You were," Dean, Luis and I said in unison.
"Anyway we saw a pretty, familiar figure, dancing and singing around on the street," Dean said, nudging me.
"I probably looked like an idiot." I muttered, blushing.
Cyrus chuckled, glancing back at me. "You look cute when you blush."
That just made me blush even more.
"Well you looked like a cute idiot then," Luis said, tapping my nose.
Dean continued. "Wyatt got pissed off-"
"Did not!" Wyatt retorted, blushing red.
"Yeah you were!" Luis said. "You got mad cause she was being all happy, while you were sulking around because you were a jerk."
"Aw," I said, not believing it myself. "You were sulking?"
"No I wasn't!" He screamed back, blushing even redder.
"Aw. Are you blushing?!" I exclaimed.
"Stop saying aw!" Wyatt put on his hood to hide that he was blushing.
"Aw," Luis, Dean, and I said dragging the word on.
"I will not hesitate to throw you guys off the car."
"C'mon Wyatt, just admit that you were pissed off." I said.
"No."
I thought of a great way to change his mind.
Poke.
"What the- stop that."
Poke.
"Autumn, stop."
Poke.
"Luis, not you too."
Poke.
"Dean why are you poking me?"
Poke.
"Are you serious, Cyrus?"
Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Pokemon. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Po-
"Okay, fine!" Wyatt exclaimed. "I was pissed off at myself since I was a jerk and stuff to you, Autumn. And... I'm sorry. Happy?"
"Never better." I smiled.
"You're never hearing that from me ever again." Wyatt grumbled.
"Don't have to." I said, I showed my phone and pressed a button.
"I was pissed off at myself since I was a jerk and stuff to you, Autumn. And... I'm sorry." Wyatt's recorded voice said in my phone.
Everyone was quiet.
Then Cyrus, Luis and Dean said, "Aw."
I laughed along with everyone else as Wyatt started to ramble threats to the guys, as we drive through the streets of Los Angeles.
Awww.
I couldn't help but say it. Aw.
I just one to give everyone a big hug. So I'm giving you all virtual hugs as thanks for reading It All Started With a Jacket.

The chapter's dedicated to 1CreativeMind, cause I also have one creative mind.
At the right is the official music video of King of Anything by Sara Bareilles. It's a really good music video, and the song's really catchy. Also at the right is Luis Stinson. I've always wondered how his name is pronounced. Is it pronounced like Lu-is or Lou-ees, I'm still thinking.
Impatiently waiting for Barely Breathing to be updated,
