I didn't like to think of the worst Sunday of my life.

Last Sunday was terribly terrible!!!

Timi got extremely mad at me even after the nice time we had together.

Fisayo showed me the other part of him.

I was terrified but glad too.
Terrified that I was dating a lunatic, glad that I knew what I was dealing with and had to take the next step as soon as possible.

Fisayo was so sorry for what happened. After he kissed me that evening, he made sure to take me to the school hospital to get some drugs because I refused talking to him afterwards.

He explained to me that he had been dealing with anger issues for a very long time and he didn't mean to hit me the way he did.
I was so scared of him and whenever he raises his hand probably to run it through his hair, I'll flinch back in fear and the pain was obvious in his eyes.
The pain of me being afraid of him.

Debra had gotten totally angry. She was the feminist type and was always against a man hitting a woman.
She swore that if it ever happens again, she'll report Fisayo to the police.

There was a little swell on my jaw.
It hurt to see my almost perfect face ruined... By my boyfriend!

On Monday, I couldn't go to classes, my head felt heavy.
On Tuesday my head still felt heavy but I decided to go, Aisha drove me to my first class but I felt empty and weak, I had to beg Nk to take me back to hostel.
On Wednesday, I felt a bit better, Fisayo asked if he could come see me but I refused.

I didn't want to see him, I couldn't.

On Thursday, I felt better and I drove myself to class secretly blessing Timi for teaching me to drive.

Exams were here already, it came and passed and I was glad I'll be home soon.

Aisha drove us in her car while Debra got someone to drive my car back home for me. I obviously couldn't handle the distance.

Olivia wasn't with us, no surprise there, she'd find her way home herself.
After Aisha dropped me at my gate, I felt warm on the inside, it was so good to be home.

There was a new gateman Jubril, I didn't know how he was able to know I was the daughter of the family because he acted so clumsy when I got down from the car, helping me with my valise and opening the gate for me.

Tife was home, immediately he saw me he came running as fast as he could, on getting to where I was, he stopped and I could see his face turn in confusion, I was so sure he wanted to hug me but then pushed it away.

"you look thin " he spat as he stretched out his hand for an hand shake.
He was so adorable with his chubby cheeks and oily hair, I laughed at him.... who on earth shakes his sister after a long time ?

I pulled him closer and scattered his hair like I usually did, he protested but didn't pull away.
"do I really look thin " I asked.

" Yeah awfully, you're ugly too and what's that on your face? " he asked referring to my jaw.

" Nothing " I shrugged.

My baby brother wasn't the type to tell you nice things, I didn't let what he said get to me.

Mercy our help quickly made something for me to eat, she kept on chattering about the things that had happened while I was away, I sat on a chair pretending to listen carefully but surprised myself by paying attention to what she was cooking instead.

After everything, I got freshened up and went to sleep, my brothers were still in school.

In the evening when my mom came back from work she was so glad you see me, she gave me a warm hug and she told me how proud she was of her grown daughter. When her face turned to a frown I suspected it was something concerning my jaw.

"what happened to you"?

"Nothing mom " I assured.

" Nothing mom but there's something on your face " she scowled.

" I... I was running late for class one time and I um hit my face against the window.. Sorry door, Yeah door. "

I sucked at lying, she knew I was lying but when my mom didn't push it I was truly amazed.
She was beginning to accept I was no longer her baby but that I was growing to become a woman and there are some things that she doesn't need to push.

" your dad would be home next week " she said with a smile and then kept on talking about how stressful Nigeria is and how she wished to return to her country.

It was quite boring at home, the absence of my brothers really got to me.. I then understood what my dad always said 'you don't know what you have till you lose it'.

My stay at home just involved talking with my mom, helping Tife with his assignments, listen to him talk about how the girls in his class thought he liked them because he was always nice to them and I suspected Dotun was the reason behind his 'being nice to girls '.

I spent other days going to visit Aisha or Debra. I strongly avoided Olivia and Fisayo.

One evening, I decided to prepare Egusi for the family, Tife already made me know he wouldn't eat it since he didn't trust me well to cook.
My mom came over to keep me company.

"wow, my baby can cook, interesting. "

I smiled at her as I stirred something in the pot.

" yeah, that reminds me, Olivia's mom called today and she invited us for dinner this Sunday "

I froze.
When did Olivia's family start entertaining people for dinner, when did this start?
I shouldn't go, I'll just have to tell my mom to politely tell them we'll be busy on Sunday.

" see mommy, me I cannot go anywhere, please tell them you and Tife are sick or something "

I knew I shouldn't have spoken to my mom that way but Olivia's mom invitation just annoyed me.
I was so sure it was something Olivia said to her mother that made her think of a hosting dinner.

"look young lady, you are not to talk to me that way, ever again. And you're going for that dinner, Mrs. Effiong also invited your other friends too.
Once Again, I am your mom and you're going for that dinner! " with that she stormed out of the kitchen.

We all ate 'my food' which every one truly enjoyed and complimented.
Tife joked that the sister he knew was dead and I was just a replica... His real sister couldn't cook at all.

On bed, I half wished Moyin was still around to keep me company, I was really bored.
I decided to call my friends. Group video call will do.

"Hey girlfriends" I called out.

"wait, Debra are you in the toilet? " Aisha asked as she looked closely into the phone.

" yess and I don't mind showing you around, swears I just ate beans and egg, it was amazing " Deb said.

Aisha and I let out an 'ewww' we knew what she meant by showing us around.
After joking about how disgusting she was for eating egg and beans, I decided to go straight to the point.

" so my mom told me Olivia's mom is hosting one mumu dinner on Sunday, I heard y'all were invited "

" I swear, her mom called my mom to tell her about it. We are going shopping tomorrow, my mom said she needs a nice outfit for it.. But honestly, I don't think I want to go for that dinner " Aisha says.

We waited for Debra to say something but she didn't, she was strongly pressing hard wanting to finish her 'business' soon..

" I don't want my mom's trouble, I'll just have to go, I have no choice " I concluded.

Aisha agreed too.

" well I also have no choice too... Wow!, just look at what was in my tummy, hold on, I need to flush "

Debra was just being gross but I couldn't help laughing. Aisha didn't find it funny one bit.

" so as I was saying, we'll just have to show up there and act like nothing ever happened" she added.

That was fine, we'll just act like we were still in good terms with Olivia.

It was Sunday already.
We went to church, I slept while the pastor preached, an usher woke me up, I got upset and finally we returned home.

I tried as hard as possible to look sick, in as much as I agreed to go for that dinner... I just couldn't think of it.

"mummy, I have brain ache " I said out of frustration to my mom as she helped Tife with his assignment.

She looked at me in confusion" I believe you mean headache, don't worry you'll be fine enough to go for the dinner "

Tife laughed at me
"what is brain ache? and I thought you're in the university, imagine".

I laughed with him "coming from someone who is in JSS 3 but his mom still helps him with his assignment."

It was almost time for our drive to Olivia's place. My mom took her time in dressing really nice for our outing. Her make up was light but nice.

My brother dressed normal.

While me... I just wore a simple nice jumpsuit.

The drive to the Effiong's house was silent and it made me think of Timi whenever he drives.

My mom focused on her driving.
My brother was playing a game on my mom's phone while I just looked out.

When we got there I took in a deep breath before stepping into the house.

Olivia welcomed my mom with a bright face. Among my friends, my mom had always liked her best because she was 'intelligent'..

"aww, my baby is all grown up " she said to Tife placing a hand on his shoulder.

He smiled at her and softly said "I'm not a baby, I'll be 14 and in SS1 soon ".
She faked gasped like she didn't know, he laughed and walked away.

" good evening, I'm so glad you made it " she said.

I didn't know what was wrong with her, how was she able to talk this way after everything she caused in school.
I wasn't ready to start any argument with her, my mom was around the corner laughing with her mom and Deb's mom.

" I am sick and tired of you, you have issues you need to deal with, maybe you should deal with them without trying to involve other people " I quietly said. The last thing I'll want is to cause a scene here.

Olivia frowned "look Benita, don't make this thing get bigger or I'll make this night hell for you". With that she left. I wondered what she meant but I prayed she wouldn't misbehave not in front of our moms.

I walked over to greet Debra mom and Olivia's mom, they each gave me a warm hug and asked about school and stuff.

Just when I wanted to search for Debra, she found me and pulled me outside with a smile.
Once we were away from our moms she dropped her forced smile.

"I like your shoes" she says. She was chewing something in her mouth and she looked silly.

"Aisha is not here yet " I asked looking around.

" I thought you knew her better, you know she and her mom would always want to arrive late so they'll cause a show " she said laughing.
I joined her thinking of what Aisha and her mom would wear to this dinner.

" that reminds me, Olivia asked us to behave oh so that she'll not to put us in trouble " I warned.

" I already planned to be on my best tonight, I want to show my mom I'm now different " she started and I immediately felt sorry for her. Her mom had always gotten too emotional whenever Debra caused trouble around, she'd claim she didn't know why God gave her a child like Deb and I couldn't blame her,Debra was something else.

" but if she still fuck up I'll deal with her, Las Las our moms would just shout at us, nothing else"

I motioned for her to keep quiet but she wouldn't listen.
"
Honestly if she makes me angry, I'll just go to their kitchen, get a glass of water, drink it, break the cup, get a piece and use it to slap her brain" she added.

I laughed as I tried covering her mouth, I glanced at Debra's mom and I wondered how a sweet woman would give birth to a girl like Debra.

A car drove into the compound.
Debra used her elbow to hit me and we put all our attention on the car.
A tall slender lady got down from the other side while from the side facing us, Aisha came out.

Debra coughed a few time, I knew it was fake.

Aisha smiled at us but she stood where she was, Chinese proudly in the air, waiting for her mom to come out. She held out her hand for her mom to hold it and they as they walked to the door where we stood.

"why are they always acting too formal" Debra whispered .

"shut up na " I fired in between my teeth.

" good evening ma" we both chorused as they finally reached us.
Mrs Nuru was on a long black gown. It had silver stones all over.
She was on a silver diamond filled turban.
Her dress was surprisingly simple but I could smell money. Her heavy perfume filled the air and her jewelry shone on her light skin.

Too much for this type of dinner if you'd ask me!

"good evening my angels, how are you? " she asked with a smile.

" fine ma " we both said together.

"ma, I love your gown it's nice" Debra said and I wanted to pinch her but I couldn't.

Mrs Nuru laughed "nice is an understatement, thanks anyway, I should go in to see your mothers" she said with a smile as she walked in leaving Aisha with us.

"nice is an understatement, I should go in to see your mothers " Debra imitated with a laugh.

" you're stupid " Aisha laughed.

I complimented Aisha's dress but Olivia told her it was too much for a dinner and that she looked ridiculous.
We talked for a while and I made sure to tell Aisha not to do anything silly while inside.

We joked about few things then Olivia's mom called us.

" why don't you girls come inside, dinner is served "
I took a deep breath before walking in with my friends. Olivia was laughing saying something to my mom, she smiled at me and I just prayed she'd behave.
