Zamzam Amin

I let out a sigh as I sat down in the cafeteria and grabbed my favorite copy of the Quran that I own. This whole entire week has been a really stressful one for everyone in my family considering that Abdirahman's wedding is only a couple of days from now. Just read the Quran Zam, it always makes you feel better, I thought to myself as I opened up the pages. I then flipped to one of my favorite Surahs which was Surah Al Faj. As I was reading it, I couldn't help but feel like someone was watching me.

Slowly turning around, I noticed that two boys were staring at me. One of them quickly looked away and the other just continued to stare at me with an annoying smirk on his features. Wtf? Is there something on my face or does that guy have a staring problem?! "Hey there." The guy said as he approached me. "Do you want something or do you just enjoy staring at people?" I retorted with a fake smile plastered on my face. I really don't have the patience for people like him. "Actually now that you asked, I do. You see you're the only girl in this school who hasn't tried to flirt with me. Why is that?" He questioned as he sat across from me.

I couldn't help but scoff. Who does this guy think he is? "And you are..?" I trailed.

"I'm Adam Mathews." He stated.

"And I'm not interested." I got up and walked away.

Abdirahman Amin

I can do this, I thought to myself as I ran my hands through my hair nervously. I had called my parents into the living room so that I could talk to them about Ihsan and how I want to marry her. This girl is everything I have ever wanted in a woman and so much more. Whenever I think of her I can't fight the stupid smile that comes on my face. I think I knew that she was the one for me the first day that I met her. We went to the same university and this man was bothering her. At first I was going to interject and help but she beat me to the punch.

She immediately stood up for herself and made the man apologize on the spot. It was something about the way she carried herself that instantly attracted me to her. Then we started talking and I fell for her amazing personality that shined so brightly. Look at me, I sound like a sap. "Salam sweetie, what's up?" Mama asked as she smiled back at me.

"Yeah, what's all the commotion about?" Baba added as he wrapped his arm around Mama.

I sat down across from them and played with my hands nervously. "I met this girl at school that I really really like and I want to marry her. Her name is Ihsan, she's a year younger than me and one of the smartest and kindest people I've ever met. She's the one that I want to make my wife and I know what you guys are probably thinking that I'm too young and probably am not ready for marriage. But I know that I am and I would love if you guys gave me your blessings." I said all in one breath. I then slowly looked back up at them to see the looks on their faces.

Mama had her hands covering her face as she began to cry. "Come on, Ma. Please don't cry." I said as I crouched in front of her and wiped her tears away. "If you don't want me to marry then I won't." I tried to reassure her. She shook her head back and forth as she hugged me tightly.

"No my son, these are tears of joy! I can see the you love this girl and want to do things the right way. How can we ever refuse that?" She responded while wiping her tears away.

"We're proud of you son." Baba added as he joined our hug as well.

"So you guys approve?"

"Of course! Now we have to talk to her parents and formally ask her for her hand in marriage." Mama said as she let go of me. "We have so much that we have to do." She added excitedly as she got up.

Zamzam and Isa then walked inside and gave me hugs as well. "See? I told you they would approve!" My little brother exclaimed as he clapped me on my back. "I'm so excited for you to get married. Finally we can have another girl in the family!" Zamzam shouted as she started jumping up and down in happiness.

Now that I've imagined life with her, I can't imagine it without her nor do I want to.

Avon Becks

"Mom, I'm home!" I shouted as I threw my keys on the counter. As per usual my mother's no good boyfriend was here drinking a bottle of beer and putting his foot up on the coffee table as if he owned this place. "What the hell are you doing here!?" I shouted as I pushed his disgusting feet off of the furniture that my mother worked so hard to afford. "The fuck do you mean why am I here? I can be here if I want to." He snapped as he took another gulp of his BudLight.

"Get the hell out of here. Now!"

He got up off of the couch and stood in front of me, eyes staring me down. "Why don't you make me punk?" He pushed me, provoking me more and more by the second. I'm about to explode any moment now.

"Breathe in and out, Avon."

The words of my psychologist said rang in my ears.

"That's right cause you're a punk. Just like your punk ass father who never wanted to take responsibility for his actions. I guess the rotten apple doesn't fall far from the rotten tree, ayye?" He said as he let out a menacing chuckle, his breath hitting me in the face. Calm down Avon, I tried to hold myself back once again.

"Why don't you tell me what makes you so angry all the time?" She asked as she got out a notepad.

"Life."

"And what is it about life?" She pried as she continued to write.

"Everything about it." I responded.

"I guess I can't blame him, I mean look at you. You're pathetic, just like your mother."

Pretty soon my anger got the better of me and my hands found their way around his neck. The amount of anger I felt coursing through my veins scared me. It was uncontrollable in the least."Stop!" My mother ran in and pushed me off of him. Justin, my mother's boyfriend, was on the floor trying to regain his breath. "What the hell is wrong with you!?" She exclaimed.

"Nothing!" I pushed past her and out of the front door.

Hours later I parked my car outside the school and waited for everyone to arrive. The first person who came was Isa, my new play toy. Lately I've been feeling bored so I decided, why not mess with him for fun? "Hey man what's going on? Why'd you want to meet here of all places?" Isa asked as he looked around the empty school parking lot. It was almost midnight right now, perfect time to do what I've been planning for the past couple of weeks. "No reason." I responded as I slung an arm over his shoulder. The other guys soon started to arrive as well.

Time to get this party started.

* * *

"I fucking hate my life!" Isa shouted as he kicked over a trash can. "There you go, just let it all out." I encouraged him with a smirk making its way to my face. He continued to throw random things on the ground in pure anger. "I have an idea," Kevin, one of the members of my crew suggested. "Let's play truth or dare." He stated with a mischievous look on his face. "Let's do it." I replied. "Isa first, truth or dare?"

"Dare." He stated.

"I dare you..." I looked around the empty street were walking on and saw an antique shop. "To break into that shop."

He looked at me as if I head four heads or something. "You're kidding, right?" He gave me a nervous look. "There's no way in hell I'm about to break into there." He exclaimed, beginning to walk away. "Come on dude, don't you want to get rid of your frustrations? It's okay no one is going to tell. Right guys?" I turned around to face my crew members. They all quickly agreed with me.

"Fine," He sighed reluctantly. I grabbed a bat from the trunk of my car and handed it to him. "This should be fun." He stated this time smirking as he said it. Pretty soon he smashed the glass window and a few other antiques. I quickly grabbed put my phone and started to record everything. I don't know why I'm doing this to him but in a way it makes me happy. Something about holding something over someone's head actually makes me feel like I'm in control for once.

I know it's sick and twisted but could you blame me? I never had control over anything in my life. Like I never had control of the fact that I was a mistake and I can't tell people who my birth father is. But this, this makes me feel like I am in full control. With just one send, I could ruin this kid's life. Although I know I'm not going to send this to anyone, I like knowing that I can if I want to. After a couple of seconds the alarm started to ring and we all ran away from the scene as quickly as possible. "Wow, you were right." Isa said with adrenaline in his tone. "That felt so good."

"I told you." I replied. "But the night isn't over yet, this is just part one."

* * *

"Bro what's going on?" He panicked the moment he saw my clients emerge from behind the alleyway. Before I could reply they came up to us and handed me a wad of cash. "Is this it?" Angelo, one of my clients, asked as he grabbed the container of weed out of my hands. "Yeah that's it." I responded as I put the money in my back pocket.

"You're a drug dealer!? What the fuck man." Isa said as he started to walk away from us. I quickly followed him to where our cars were parked. "I wouldn't leave if I were you." I threatened him.

"Oh yeah? And why is that?"

"Because I recorded you breaking into that store so unless you want me to go to the cops with this I suggest you stay." I whispered to him as I gave him a menacing gaze.

Unseen Scene #4

Adam Mathews

"Hey babe!" Kathie said as she planted a small peck on my lips.

"I can't, Kathie." I heard someone say the moment I walked out of the school's double doors. I immediately paused as I tried to hear what was going on. All I could see was my girlfriend's brunette hair in a pony tail waving from side to side. "Why? Adam will never find out. It doesn't matter if he does anyway because I love you. And only you."

"Don't!" I pushed her away from me, trying to contain the mixture of emotions I was feeling at this moment.

She cheated on me.

She cheated on me.

She cheated on me...

For some reason I couldn't bring myself to believe that. I gave her everything, yet she stabbed me in the back. I just wish I saw who she was cheating on me with, their voice sounded so familiar though. It's like if I heard them again, I'd know who it was. "What's wrong?" She took a step towards me while I took a step back. "Are you okay babe?" She questioned. I couldn't help but scoff at her. "Am I okay? Ha!" I laughed mirthlessly, I honestly can't believe this is happening right now. I knew we had problems and I was already going to break up with her but I just can't understand why she would cheat. All of my life I've been stepped on by women, first my mother and now her.

"Just tell me why you did it?' I tried my best to contain my anger but it was nearly impossible.

"D-Did what?" She stuttered.

"Don't play with me!" I angrily punched the tree beside me, my knuckles immediately started to bleed. "Are you alright?" She rushed over and grabbed my hand. "Don't...touch...me." I yanked my arm away from her. "We're done." I pushed passed her and walked towards my car. I started the engine to my car and drove away from the park where I asked her to meet me at. I wanted to break up with her somewhere public where she could feel as embarrassed as I felt when I found out what she did.

The moment I came home I noticed my father and some of his business men in the living room. "Remember when you asked if I wanted to leave for a while?' I interrupted them, not caring about what they were talking about. "Yes," My father said with an obvious irritated look on his face.

"I'll do it, book me the next flight out of here," With that I walked up to my room and started to pack my things already. On this day I vow to never care for a girl like I did for her. This just proves that I can't trust women. They lie, they cheat, they leave you without giving an explanation why. I'm never going to let myself get hurt like this ever again.

I'm never going to have feelings for another girl ever again.

Zamzam Amin

Today has been such a tiring day, after I came home from school I went to the bakery to help Grams, then after that went to the homeless shelter like I always do every Friday and now I'm finally able to rest.  Truthfully, these past couple of weeks have been hard. With school work, Isa's rehab, Aliyah's engagement party planning and strategically avoiding Adam, I'm both mentally and physically drained. Suddenly the doorbell rang and since no one else was bother to get up, I went to open it.

"I got it!" I shouted.

"Yeah, you go do that." Isa responded while typing away on his phone, not even bothering to look up. "Lazy butt." I muttered under my breath as I opened the door. The moment I opened the door, I saw him standing on the other side of it. Considering my luck, I'm not at all surprised. What? Next time I'll try to avoid Beyoncé, maybe she'll be behind my door as well. "H-Hey...is Isa here?" Adam asked as he awkwardly scratched the back of his neck.

This is the first time he even tried to talk to me. Usually, he'd pretend I wasn't even there. I can't really blame him though. Our last conversation didn't go well at all. "Yeah... Come inside." I stepped aside and let him through. "Hey, dude I didn't know you were coming." Isa stated as he got up off the couch.

Adam glanced at me for a second then quickly looked away. "Yeah well, I was in the neighbourhood and just wanted to stop by. I have to talk to you about something." He responded. Both Isa and him quickly went upstairs, leaving me there in a daze. He really can't bare to be in a room with me, can he?

* * *

As I was walking into my room, I couldn't help but hear something my brother said. "You plan on ignoring her forever, dude?" Isa asked in an annoyed tone. "Not forever, truthfully I came to see her and use you as an excuse. It's just the moment I saw her, I froze." Adam stated. He came to see me? I thought to myself in shock. "Then why are you talking to me? You guys need to solve this. She's been miserable the last couple of weeks. She blames herself for what happened. Look, Zamzam doesn't really ever let anyone in, but when she does, she lets you in completely. You have to take the good with the bad. She's not perfect, no one ever is. So cut her some slack." My brother said in a serious tone.

"That's the thing, I don't blame her for anything. I blame myself, every time I'm around her I don't feel worthy for her, at least not now." Adam responded as he let out a sigh.

"She loves you, even though she won't say it out loud. I know her and she does. Just be a little more patient." Isa replied.

"Okay, let's talk about something else please."

I then walked into my room and jumped on top of my bed. Ya Allah, when will this ever get easier?

Unseen Scene #6

Present Day

Aliyah Munir

I couldn't help but smile at myself as I stared at the mirror full length mirror that was in front of me. This is it, I thought to myself excitedly. Today is the day that I, Aliyah Aleenah Munir, am going to get engaged to the man of my dreams. The man that I saw myself marrying when I was in elementary school, the man who always made me smile and even laugh at his corny, but adorable, jokes. Is this real? Am I dreaming? "Liyah, you ready?" Zamzam called from the other side of the room. "Coming!" I hollered as I started walking towards the door to my room.

Both Samantha and Zamzam came inside with my dress and makeup material in hand. You see since both Sam and Zamzam are fantastic at makeup I decided to ask them to do it instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a professional artist. It's not that I'm being cheap or anything because my family can afford it. It's just that my parents are already spending a fortune on catering, getting an imam and they're also paying for Amir and I to go on a vacation. So if I don't need something then I won't ask for it.

Besides, what are best friends for if not to dress up together?

"Hurry up and throw on your dress. Zam and I will be back in ten minutes to do your makeup." Samantha instructed as she handed me my wedding dress. They both then left my room and locked the door behind them. I quickly slipped my dress on and zipped up the back then turned to my mirror once again. The dress that I picked out was a long sleeved beautiful white laced gown that fit me perfectly. It also resembled my mother's old wedding dress that she wore the day she married my father. I always wanted to wear that one on my big day but sadly it got ruined in a fire when I was only ten years old.

That's why this one means so much to me, the moment I saw it I knew that it was the one.

After a couple of seconds I heard another knock on my door and swiftly opened it. My mother and father both stood on the opposite side as they gaped at me in awe. The first one to approach me was my mother, she quickly enveloped me in a hug as happy tears made their way down her cheeks. "My baby girl has grown up, haven't you?" She said as she delicately placed a hand on my cheek. I couldn't help but she'd a tear or two of my own. It's like it's all just hitting me now, after today I'm going to be a wife to someone else. It's crazy just to think of that. Even though I'm nervous, I'm really and truly happy to marry some as nice and sweet and caring as Amir.

"I'm still your baby girl, Mama and Baba." I responded as I looked at my parents with adoring eyes. Allah has really blessed me with amazing parents, alhamdulilah. "We love you, habibti." Baba stated as he kissed my forehead gingerly. "I love you guys too." I replied as another happy tear rolled down my cheek. After a couple of minutes, it was time for the girls to come in and do my makeup. Before I knew it, it was already time for me to go downstairs where everyone was waiting for me.

"You ready?" Zamzam asked as she squeezed my shoulders. I couldn't help but let out a smile sigh as I nodded my head slowly. I'm just so nervous.

"Let's go."

Unseen Scene #7

Present Day

Adam Mathews

You have to talk to her Adam, I thought to myself as I walked into Amir's engagement party. A few months ago it would've been beyond me to think that someone the same age as I am would be ready to settle down so early in life but now, I understand. It's not about how old you are per-say but where you are mentally. I'm proud of him because he's following his heart and whats to do it the Islamic-ally appropriate way. "Congrats man, I'm happy for you." I said as I clapped his back.

"Thanks, I'm happy you're here. Did you talk to Zamzam yet?.." He asked.

"No not yet but I'm about to." I responded as I looked across the room for her. The moment I found her I caught her looking my way but then quickly diverted her attention. This is the second time I had caught her looking today. She looked amazing as per usual. These past couple of months without talking to her have been difficult to say the least. I had become so used to talking to her at school, and seeing her whenever I'd hangout with Isa that she'd somehow became a part of my new normal. And now to just suddenly lose all contact and not tell her about the biggest moment of my life, becoming a muslim, well that was almost impossible. But I held myself together.

Suddenly Isa and his brother Abdirahman came to where we were standing. "Hey man, I heard that you became muslim. Congrats, how do you feel?" Isa asked as he clapped me on my back.

"Yeah, alhamdulilah I feel great." I responded. "Like a huge weight has been lifted off my chest."

"That's nice to hear. Congratulations Amir on getting engaged." Abdirahman stated with a smile then went up to Amir and gave him a hug. It's weird because normally all he ever does is give me the cold shoulder whenever I am around.

* * *

It had been a few hours later when I decided to go outside and get some fresh air. The moment I did, I found Zamzam there staring off into the star filled sky. "Zamzam?" I asked as I approached her. This is the first time that I had said her name out loud in what felt like forever. "H-Hey...I'll leave if you want." She said as she began to leave but I stopped her.

This is it Adam, it's now or never, I tried to convince myself.

"I have something to say to you. Well, two somethings actually." I stated as I buried my hands deep in the pocket of my tuxedo as I rocked back and forth on his tip toes. To say that I was never would be an understatement.

"I went to the masjid yesterday and said my shahada."

She dropped the purse she had in her hands in shock. "Really!? That's amazing!" She exclaimed happily. I tried to hide the smile that I had on my face but failed to do so.

"Yeah so you've won the bet. Congratulations."

"Why thank you," She did a small curtesy. I've missed seeing her and joking around like this like before. That's when I remembered the second thing that I have to tell her and the smile I once had was gone. "What's wrong?" She asked worriedly.

"It's the second thing. I'm leaving tomorrow morning."

"W-What? Where are you going? For how long?" She kept on asking questions.

"I want to travel the world and figure some things out. Don't worry I'm going to come back but I just don't know when." I said, not being able to look her in the eye. I hate that I have to do this but if I don't then I don't think I can become the kind of man that she deserves. Not only was I leaving for that purpose but also because I need to find myself, as cheesy as it may sound. I want to get used to being a Muslim and I want to establish my relationship with Allah on my own. Then, and only then can I become the man that is worthy of marrying her.

"I'm going to miss you." She responded as she blinked her tears away. It kills me to see her cry and especially be the reason for her tears. I wonder how many times I had caused her to have tears in her pretty eyes.

"I brought you something." I said as I brought out a gift bag from behind me, trying to change the subject. "Open it." I handed it to her. The look that she had on her face was priceless. "A scarf?" She asked as she brought it out of the bag.

"Ya, a scarf for my Scarfy."

It's been a while since I've called her that. "Also whenever you're missing me just look up at the sky and know that somehow, somewhere we're both staring at the same sunset or stare." I tried to be serious but I couldn't. Yeah I'm going to leave the sappy stuff to the experts. "I'm sorry that was so corny."

"I think I'll stick with looking at the scarf." She held the piece of cloth in her hands. "I'm really going to miss you."

Not nearly as much as I'll miss you.

"Me too but I'll be back before you know it. Maybe them we could take this relationship a step forwards." I said in a hopeful tone. In the end that is what I really want. To be with her but in the right way, in front of the eyes of Allah. "Maybe." She replied. "Does everyone else know?" She added with raised eyebrows. "Yeah," I nodded my head as if in guilt. "I told them not to tell you."

"Well thanks for making sure I was the last to know." I could sense the hurt in her eyes as she said that. "The only reason why you were the last to know was because one, the best is always last. And two, I knew it would be hardest to say goodbye to you and I was right. This is by far the hardest thing I've ever done. You've changed my life literally in a matter of 6 months, you helped me even when I kept telling you not to. You risked your life for me in so many ways more than one. And on top of that you managed to guide me to Islam. That's why I wanted to tell you last. Zamzam, you're the best thing I never knew I needed." I stated as I looked in her eyes. These were the things that I have been dying to tell her but I just couldn't bring myself to.

For a moment neither of us said anything and we just stared at the star filled sky. "Thank you," She cleared her throat. "For the scarf. I'll keep in good condition."

"You should. I want to see you wearing it the day I come back. Only Allah knows when though." I replied, running a hand through my hair nervously. The truth is, I have no idea when I will come back.

"Hurry up and figure yourself out. Once you do you know where to find me." She then walked back inside the house and left me standing here. I knew that this goodbye was going to be hard but I didn't know that it would be this hard. I will comeback for her a better man, one that her father would approve of. But most importantly, someone that I would approve of.
