Accept What Has Been Done And Allow Yourself To Heal
"DAMN IT!"
A gigantic web of cracks littered the wall as the bony fist pounded into it. The owner to the fist let out a loud wail, hitting his skull against the damaged wall. "DAMN IT ALL!"
"Sans..."The goddess whispered, gently reaching for her dear friend.
However, the god's gaze met hers with unending hostility. "IT'S MY FAULT, TORI! IT'S ALL MY F*CKING FAULT!"
"Sans...Please, try to breathe..."
The skeleton shook his head, letting his fists ball up against his eye-sockets. "Damn it, Damn it, DAMN IT!"
"Sans-"
"I LET HIM GO, TORI! I SHOULD HAVE SAVED HIM! I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE BEFORE THIS EVEN HAPPENED!" Tears dripped from the Reaper's eye-sockets as he wept. "I SHOULD HAVE..."
Without any words spoken, the goddess wrapped her fluffy arms around the distraught god, allowing him to cry on her shoulder. She comfortingly rubbed his back in a circular motion to help sooth his sobs. "...Sans...I do not know what happened...but...I won't push it. All I ask of you is to please calm yourself..."
The skeleton slowly shook his head, squeezing his eye-sockets tightly. "He's gone, Tori. He's gone..."
"Shhhhh..."
"He's gone..."
~~~
Death silently sat in the living room, trying his best to not upset the toddler which sat comfortably in his lap. The child giggled happily, tightly squeezing one of Reaper's fingers in a loving manner. Adorable. It would have been better if he was still here. The god quickly shook his head, forcing himself to push the thought away.
Soon, the sweet and rustic scent of a warm beverage wafted through the room, the goddess of life strolling in with two mugs of hot chocolate. She carefully placed one down on the glass coffee table, glancing over at the broken edge which had been 'baby-proofed', and gingerly set the other in Reaper's palms. The warm liquid quickly warmed his cold hands. He mumbled a small 'Thank you' before blowing a little on the cup and taking a sip.
Life set herself down next to Death, picking up her own mug from the coffee table and sighing. "...Reaper-"
"Please." The god set down his drink and gave the goddess a sad smile. "Don't call me that."
Toriel blinked before looking down sadly. "I see..."
He turned back to his cup, allowing the baby to take a sip of the warm drink.
Silence.
"..."
"Death?"
"...Yes?"
"...What are you going to do now?"
"...I don't know."
"What about Goth-"
"I don't know."
"What about-"
"I don't know."
Life sighed. "...How much do you know...?"
"Nothing. I know nothing now. Everything is so unclear without him."
Life frowned. "...Sans...I know it's hard...but you have to keep going."
"There is no point anymore-"
Life raised a hand, stopping Death. "Though, grief is a horrible thing. It will take time and strength to heal. However, I completely understand if you need time to let it all sink in. I don't want to rush anything. Sometimes, when you gain scars, it's better to stop than to immediately start going. Allow yourself the time to heal."
The god thought for a moment before dryly laughing, letting his mug sit on the glass of the coffee table. "Tori...do you really think the council of Gods CARE about feelings? Breaking news! They DON'T."
"Sans-"
"I'm the only reaper they have left. I don't have time to just STOP."
"Sans. Once you explain your situation-"
Death interrupted with a loud laugh. "My situation? I'm sorry, the last time I was like this, the king simply smacked me across the face and told me to get over it. WHY THE HELL SHOULD I TELL THEM ANYTHING?!" Toriel stopped, obviously taken aback. Death took a few breathes before sighing, letting his hands cover his face. "...I'm sorry..."
"No No, I should apologize, Sans. I forgot..."
"It's fine. You didn't even know my brother for that long..."
"I should have remembered... He was important to you."
The skeleton stared down at the child, masking the child's small bony hands with his own larger ones. "....You know what?"
The goddess looked up at Reaper. "Hm?"
"...Maybe I will take a few days to rest."
Life rose an eye-brow. "I thought you said-"
"Screw what I said." Reaper grumbled, picking up his mug and taking a quick drink. It briefly burned his throat. "Like you said, I just need time."
"Don't forget acceptance." Toriel smiled. "Accept what has been done and allow yourself to heal."
The god stared at the goddess before sighing. "...I'll try." He stared down at his hands, his gaze resting on a silvery ring which was encrusted with a dazzling sapphire. He let himself smile.
I'll try.
