Chapter 8

"You guys ready?" Angelica's father, Tom shouted from below.

"Yes, we are!" Laura answered as her daughter's hand was gripped tightly on to her fingers as they elegantly walked down the stairs.

Laura was adding the final touch they both needed before they left home for their special dinner.

"Finally I thought you both were never gonna get done with it..." He muttered but Angelica heard it even when her cat ears were hidden in her hair and smiled at her father.

"Oh come here, sweetie!" He kneeled down as she walked towards him. "Today my darling is looking so pretty..." He complimented her and she gave her mesmerising smile in return as thanks, her eyes shining brighter than before.

She never used to get compliments like those, only dirty expletives. And she could never get used to those now for they played like music to her ears.

"And what about me?" His wife asked with a pout. "Oh, for you? I have no words... You look amazing everyday..." And Laura smiled with a blush forced upon her cheek as Tom held her narrow waist and pressed his lips against her cheek.

Angelica just watched and realised that how beautiful love could be. She was old enough to understand it.

In fact she envied her parents. At least they had enough love to spend all their life with each other. She would never get that. She is not normal and is always treated like a freak. She would never get to live every girl's dream

"Come Princess, we have to go now!" The little kitten shook her head to remove the depressing thoughts in her mind, looked up to her father as she held the finger he offered.

They made their way to the Scott's and reached in time for their 9 o'clock reservation. The distance between home and the restaurant was very short so they walked.

Angelica was happy at the position she was. She had her mom on one side and her dad on the other and were talking about different things that were worth sharing.

They were shown their table and they gladly sat. Angelica sat with Laura near the window and Tom sat opposite to her.

Both her parents were talkative, she knew, which only made her stand out. Her parents went on blabbering and chattering while dear Angelica sighed and looked out of the window, admiring the view outside.

She observed that the ground outside was halfly available to cars that needed to be parked and the other half was used as playground for children. Which did get her excited.

She loved the playground especially the set of swings but whenever she used to go there, all the children used to shout 'monster' and run away from her. So at those times, the playground used to be all hers which she used to enjoy in silence.

Right now, she decided that the moment she was done with dinner, she would beg her parents to allow her to play outside. After all, it did seem like a long time she's actually gone there.

"Ma'am? Sir? May take you order?" Both of her parents nodded and that brought the little kitty's attention on to the table.

"Yes, ummm.... Madam over here, will take a white sauce chicken pasta and a lemon margarita... I will take a red sauce spaghetti with meatballs and coke... while my daughter will take a fish and chips... oh, and just make sure the fish is a bit uncooked..." Angelica smiled at the waiter innocently.

Her parents did know her likes and dislikes well. And that made her happy.

The waiter was young, maybe in his twenties, glanced at her as he wrote the order down. He then looked up and recited the whole order up to the mark. But he tried pretending that she wasn't there.

Angelica didn't mind. She was used to such reactions.

"I shall get your drinks first." He said humbly. He was about to walk away but he came back.

"Sir, may I ask you a question?" Tom nodded, gesturing that he should proceed with his question. "Is that your daughter?" he asked. Angelica, knowing that the waiter was talking about her, looked up at him.

Suddenly she found him familiar. Like she has seen him before. Not once. But many times. She just didn't find that of any importance.

"Yes... Why?" Father asked confused. Where was this leading to? "Well, I only want to say that she is a beautiful angel..." He said as he looked at her and smiled. She returned it, pleased with the compliment.

"Yeah, she is blessing in disguise..." Tom muttered. "Ok, I shall get your order..." And he walked off but before he went, a glance spared to her direction. She mouthed a thank you and he nodded with a soft smile, acknowledging her reply.

And with that she went back staring outside the window.

"Darling, your food has come!" Laura happily put the plate in front of her daughter.

Her attention now went into the food that was now in front of her and it smelt heavenly. And she dug in happily, softly purring to herself as she took the first bite and savouring the taste. It was fish and she loved it. It was made just the way she liked.

Soon she was done and she saw that her parents were taking as much of time as possible with their food as they spoke of a large variety of subjects.

For a few moments, Angelica waited impatiently and then, unable to hold the excitement any longer, she burst out.

"Mom! Can I please go to the playground? I wanna sit on the swings!" "Sure darling! But did you finish everything in your plate?" Her mother asked softly. "Yes mom! Please! Please may I go?" The kitty asked politely but she was jumping out of her seat in excitement. Her mother let out a short laugh.

"Sure dear! But be in our sight! I don't want any one taking you away from me!" She joked. Angelica promised and she skipped her way out.

When she reached the playground, she turned to the window they were sitting at and she waved. Her parents saw her waving and returned the gesture whole-heartedly. She then turned back to the playground.

She noticed that the slides, the see-saw and the monkey bars were all popular and were infested with children from different age-groups.

But the swing set was left all alone. And it was really good thing that it was left that way. She could now have it to herself.

She elegantly walked to the swings and silently sat on one and then used her legs to slowly push her back and forth. Her eyes go to her parents who were still sitting inside and chatting over a chocolate sundae.

She smiled faintly. She felt so happy for them. They were so in love. She just hoped there was nothing there that could come in between them. After all finally she had something good in her life.

Suddenly a boy, who looked like he was in the same age group as her, came and sat beside her.

Angelica found it awkward and so she didn't speak but kept moving her legs back and forth but kept her toes still in contact with the ground.

"Hey!" The boy greeted softly, moving his own seat in her pace. Angelica turned to him and pointed at herself questioningly. Me?

"Yeah! Hey, my name is Max. What's yours?" The boy asked casually. "Angelica ..." She replied softly, her eyes barely meeting his.

"Hey, you don't have be shy!" he said as he moved his hand to lift her chin and make her look up at him. Angelica now got a full view of him.

Max was a really cute boy with messy brown hair that fell over his eyes that shone pale blue. He had a small dimple when he smiled and a sharp nose.

Every feature of his was dominant and clear cut. He was so cute and handsome and built-up with a tall structure that if he wanted any girl, he could have her. Yet he chose to sit beside her right now.

"So what's your name?" He asked again as he was unable to hear her name the previous time. "My name is Angelica." She said, her voice sounding a little bold than before. "Well Angelica, I must say you are a very beautiful girl... How come I've never seen you around?" He questioned and Angelica realised that the swings were now in the alternate motion.

But she shook her head and she paid attention to his voice. Well, as a cat, she gets distracted very easily. "Well, I stay a lot at home... I hardly ever come out." She admitted.

Her voice was soft as silk and she could not make it dominating as she was a shy cat. She couldn't talk straight when it came to strangers. In fact no one had seen the real side of her.

"Oh, so if I say that there is fair that has been put up tomorrow, would you like to come with me?" He asked sincerely as he drove his hand through the hair. Angelica stared at him, wide-eyed.

What did he just say? Did Max just ask her out? By the look she gave him, he continued "I mean my friends are gonna be there... So would you join us?" He asked, a little hesitantly. He was scared that she might reject him.

She tried to calm down for her heart was beating too fast. He just asked her out.

This is the first person who has ever even talked to her so nicely and even ended up asking her out. This was so great for Angelica.

But she had to ask her parents first for they did care about her a lot. And they were so protective about her that they would first look at her safety. They wouldn't want to see her broken in any way.

"I could... But I'll have to ask my parents first..." She admitted with a small smile. "Oh, but where are your parents?" Angelica pointed towards the window where her parents sat, waiting for the bill.

"Ok, come! Let's ask them!" He grabbed her hand and pulled her along to meet her parents.

He was way more excited than she is even though it was supposed to be the other way round.

"Mom? Dad?... This is Max. I just met him on the playground... And he has something to ask you both." Angelica spoke adorably and the moment she was done, her parents turned to the cute boy standing next to her, holding her hand.

"Hello Ma'am! Hello Sir! I just wanted to ask if Angelica could come with us to the fair which is held tomorrow?" He asked, his voice quivered a bit in nervousness. "Well, nice to meet you, Max... But can you tell us, who is the 'us'?" her father asked inquisitively.

"Well, they are my friends..." He let out boldly. Laura and Tom both turned to their daughter. "Kitty, do you really want to go?" Her mother asked. Her head bounces up and down innocently, like a little girl. Laura sighs.

Truthfully, she didn't want to let her go. What if something happens to her? What if someone kidnaps her? What if she gets hurt? What if they leave her and she gets lost? There were too many possibilities to risk but Laura knew that kitty could handle herself.

She has done before and she has proved it. But Laura just didn't want to lose her. Plus kitty has had a lot of torture in her previous life and she did deserve some fun.

They could probably go as a family but this was her baby's first friend. She deserved to get to know them.

Laura could feel all three of their eyes on her, waiting for her decision. She let a sigh escape again. "Ok, you can go... But, she has to be safe. Max, do you promise?" Max nods.

"I promise that I will keep her safe." When Laura nods, he turns to Angelica. "So I shall see you soon... We all are meeting at the entrance at 7 o'clock. Come on time, ok?"

And Angelica nods excitedly with a smile.

"Bye!" He shouted as he left the restaurant and Angelica waved as he disappeared. "I think it's time we go home too. We have had a wonderful time today as a family, haven't we?" Tom asked as both her parents got up.

Oh, Angelica couldn't agree less...
