Chapter 1
"So it's a date?" You asked eagerly as your green gleaming orbs lit up in innocent excitement.
He smiled softly as he looked down, his dimples digging deeper. His hands dug into the pockets of his blue denims. And he looked up to meet your eyes.
"It's a date..." He agreed. The simple decision to start an innocent relationship filled with love had been formed right there, in front of a small grocery store.
The moment you had entered that shop, you were aware that his eyes had been concentrated and followed only you like a shining ray of light ever since then. The posture he was leaning into as he hung out by the counter with the only cashier present, had straightened automatically as soon as you decided to grace your presence in that tiny local store.
You had only come in to buy a few carrots you needed for the vegetable stew you were preparing. The mildly seasoned vegetable stew that all old people loved in the old age home, the same place where you decided to volunteer for work. A place that had accepted you only because of the lack of volunteers they had.
But he caught your eye too. Something you weren't really expecting.
The sleeves of his blue denim jacket had been folded up to his elbows, hiding all his tattoos and scars of his deep past he seemed to have and his skinny black jeans which hung on his hips lowly and yet held his butt so securely. His white vest was the only translucent barrier for those dark and weirdly engraved symbols marked as tattoos and those toned abbs and his feet were covered in black shoes. His peppered blonde hair was covered by a greyish newsboy's hat which gave him the look of those burly teenage boys that belonged to the streets. Or at least that's what you thought it looked like.
His blue eyes glazed by your mere presence and as your eyes chanced to meet, the atmosphere in the congested shop seemed to change when he smiled softly with his dimples showing off.
The first time you saw him, he attracted your attention strongly, with such hypnotising force. Something that has happened for the first time in your life. And you know that you've managed to attract his too.
Maybe not as strong as he has. It just seemed like you had this connection, this bond with him that you can't seemed to remember at all.
All you know is that the life you have been living was your second chance that Gid had given you and all that happened before was long forgotten. All because the cerebral part of your brain which contained all your memories you had managed to experience and collect, had been severely injured and with that, you lost everything in that freak car accident. But that didn't seem to stop you from making new memories from the new life that you had already begun living.
His eyes still never left you even as his presence neared by.
You tried to concentrate on the quality of carrots you needed but his intense stare of awe distracted you and left you uncomfortably conscious of yourself. Yet you liked the feeling of it.
Suddenly his hand reached out, to touch yours and when it came in contact, it sent a powerful shot of electricity and these weird tingles were left behind.
You look up to meet his eyes as you drew your hand back instinctively. He looked so much more handsome and cuter from near than far, you judge silently and drew into that conclusion.
But a sudden pit feeling stops you. It had felt like you have seen him before even when you knew you haven't. At least in this life. That feeling seemed like you have forgotten that beautiful face even when you know you don't really have the capability to do that. You just... felt like you knew him and you quite did have a strong connection with him before.
Maybe he existed in your previous life?
But his emotions of recognition did not threaten to show itself and you assume that he could play along well.
You know you've had flashes of your past life and it's not what everyone is trying to convince you about. The flashes included bright intensity of the blinding light and a few medical equipment so you think it was a memory of the hospital you were admitted in before you passed out.
The time you were supposed to be operated.
The time you were gravely injured in that freak car accident.
The one which took place two years ago before you lost all your memories and was forced to begin afresh.
However you don't remember being a part of any accident. Nor do you remember of being in that sort of pain.
But you do remember the faded memory of messy peppered hair and sharp icy blue eyes which certainly didn't take place around the accident site or you would have remembered that much clearly, you assure yourself. Could they belong to him?
He smiled nervously as you reacted with a sudden jerk. "Ummm... Hey!..." He tried to start a conversation and you could see he had trouble with it which made you giggle in your head. He was failing miserably as you could see he was stuttering, finding words to finish what he meant.
But you just looked at him, waiting for him to finish and put his complete sentences through. "I was just noticing you from there...." He points to where he was standing and observing you. "And... I was just wondering what a pretty angel like yourself... was doing here?" He finished shyly and softly, in fright of being rebuffed for his words.
It was a clear shot that had been shown that he had never done this before. But still it made you blush furiously in your mind. His attempt still seemed strong and flattering.
You smiled softly and a slight blush peeked from your high cheekbones.
It was really sweet of him to compliment you like this and you felt really nice, special. No one ever had balls to do so.
"Thank you!" you murmur, a polite reply to his words.
And as you already grabbed the selected bunch of carrots you needed, you headed towards the busy cashier and handed it to him. He follows you and the thought of it actually happening makes a smile peek from your lips.
For the simple fact that before this day no one, boy or girl, had ever approached you before and this had simply been the first time in your new life. In every one's eyes, you were castaway. Every one treated you like a freak. And you hated it but still bore it.
They only treated you like that because you were just a girl who had no memory of her past and yet turned up in that town with weird scars and tattoos that no one can interpret.
They made rumours and myths about you and left you to the cruelty of Life's Plans, all alone. You were always the victim in every plot, plan and prank but you always managed to pull through. Even with no friends, (As automatically as it comes, no boyfriends either...) you still had one person in your life to think about.
Some one really important. You only had your gentle neighbour who cared for you only because she had the heart filled with purity and kindness and had a duty of humanity on her shoulders when she saw you that day, lying on the rough road, profusely bleeding, exactly two years back.
She provided the needed medication to save your life. She gave you a roof to stay under. She gave you hopes of being normal even when others treated you otherwise. She nursed you like her own even though you had no relations to her and now you were doing everything to return the love you got from her care.
Maybe this guy was new to town, the thought struck your head. All the possibilities that could take place clouded your mind.
As no one in this town was ever interested in interacting with you as they thought you were a bad omen. And the only time they did, was when it was strictly business. The only time when they were all sickly sweet and polite, all fake for the sake of their safety. Only because they thought that you were going to curse them with heaps of bad luck, something they would prefer staying away from. Well, only because of a few incidents had assured them of their fears.
But this man had come to you by his own pleasure and had nothing affecting him, even as people's stares were quite disturbing, trying to warn him what he was getting into. Maybe they really forgot to warn him as he entered this tiny little suspicious town. About you.
Just as you picked up a plastic bag filled with fresh carrots and handed the exact amount of money the item costed, you walked out of the store after smiling at the cashier who tried to pretend to take notice.
He had fear in his eyes as you observed it clearly and frowned inside.
When are people going to see that you were as harmless as a chained animal and let you live a normal life?
As you were dwelling in the hurt of how people have been treating you, the blue-eyed gorgeous man still followed you out. You turned to him and before you could speak, the awaiting words flow out of his mouth.
"There is a new bistro in town. Would you like to eat there? With me? Sometime?" He asked eagerly yet innocently as if all the time he remained silent, he was contemplating on the fact of how to ask you out. And it took you by surprise.
No one has ever had the guts to ask you out. You have never been out to watch movies or gone shopping or on dates cause you never had friends to accompany you. They all seem to shy away. But this man was surely different and you could feel it.
He has been so nice to you that you loved the sole attention you had been getting from him. Even when he complimented you when you had been neatly dressed in a tight white blouse, black dress pants which curved your bottom perfectly and five-inch stilettos.
You had reached his height because of the heels and your hair had been neatly tied into a ponytail. And this formal attire was because you had just returned from an interview which had terribly turned its way from going perfectly well.
And now that the words have reached your ears, you felt extraordinarily happy. No one has ever complimented you before. But that didn't seem to surprise you. 'This' still did.
A sudden expression of shock hit you first but you let it easily mould it into an apologetic smile. "I am sorry but I don't eat anywhere except my usual..."
His expression dropped and it seemed like regret filled his eyes. Like a thought crossed his mind: - If I was going to be rejected any ways, why did I have to ask?
He looked down, biting his lower lip uncomfortably (which you found really adorable) and gave an understanding nod. But you weren't letting him go so fast.
"...but if you don't mind, I would love to meet up at the Olive Garden?" You continued innocently.
He looked up at you and smiled widely. "Sure, I would love that.... Would today be fine?" "It would do perfectly well." You reply. Suddenly you realise that you began to love the joy that lit up his entire face.
"So 8 o'clock?" "8 o'clock, it is!" you agree. "Then I think its best that we meet up there, if that's okay with you?" He asked gently, his voice soft and burdened with care. And a frown took place on your lips.
"Why?" You didn't realise that you just said that out loud. "Well, it's the first time we have met and to start this new bond, I think it's best to get to know each other first and then trust each other with further personal information." He explained patiently.
He didn't get annoyed at the fact that you didn't seem to see his logic at first before questioning his words. Now that you did get it, you find out that you seemed to be agreeing with him.
But for some reason you got this vibe that he was hiding something big. Something dangerous. Something deep. Something dark. A humongous secret. And instead of keeping away, you seemed to embrace it, unwilling to let go.
"I agree... Then I shall meet you there." You say, unsure and so continued. "Wait! But are you sure?" You proceed to ask.
"Baby, I've never been so sure of what I ever wanted in life until now..." He breathed comfortingly as he cleared the doubt in the air. You nod with a small smile and you turned to walk away, back home.
"Hey!" You turned around to see his voice calling out to you. "I didn't catch your name earlier." He pointed out sheepishly. "That is because I never gave it to you in the first place." You say playfully as you walk backward, distance increasing between the two of you.
"It's Racquelle!" You let out as he patiently waits for you to reveal your name. And then you walked away, not waiting to get his. Maybe letting it create a mystery of curiousity attack your womanhood.
And it was the simple truth.
You were curious about this guy. Who could he be? Why was he being so nice?
And you were still pretty excited for your date with him that was to take place.
Even though you both haven't exchanged phone numbers or home addresses, you were quite hoping that he wouldn't ditch his date tonight, last minute as it was planned on short nice. Cause with that happening, the possibility rate of it not happening is very high and many things had a high probability to go wrong. All the negative possibilities began to flock into your head.
What if it was just a dare given by his friends? What if it had been done over the mere pity he had for you? What if he had to prove it to the world that you were just a harmless little kitten and rest was just stupid superstitions? What if- There are a lot of 'what if's' you can point out and you didn't want to think about it for it would make you feel absolutely worse.
All you know is that he didn't seem to match the type of the 'what if's'. But who knew the stark truth? Appearances are always led to be deceptive and you knew that. You were always prepared to be cautious.
Suddenly the image of him filled into your head and you had the dreamy look in your eyes as you let your legs take you back to the place you called home.
The messy peppered hair stood up to its tips and you could see the dark roots. You loved the way when he drove his hand through his hair. The icy blue eyes which he had were a deep never ending pit which you could go on staring without ever getting bored and you felt the urge the first time his eyes landed on you.
It had made you blush furiously.
He had a sharp nose and a small stubble which made him look older than he seems, maybe in his early twenties. He had a lean and tall figure yet he seemed strong enough to protect you. The attire he put on looked so handsome on him.
And you realised that you were strongly attracted to him, which again has never happened before.
No guy has ever caught your eye and you have never labelled a guy any adjectives before, which suddenly made you feel blind and oblivious to the world as you only seemed to have eyes for him. And he for you.
And all these thoughts of going for that date and meeting him again, excited you to actually wish that time could move along faster and you could already get ready for this date.
Ok, before I move on with this story.... it's quite annoying when ppl keep saying it's too wordy and repetitive.... but let me remind you that the protagonist of the story has lost her memory and keeps reminding herself of small things due to her fear of forgetting those... plus all the reasons are broken down and placed in different areas if u notice carefully.... Anyways just a note ..... Enjoy!
