Chapter 12
"Uh, Dan..." Phil muttered a few weeks later, scratching the imaginary itch on the back of his neck. "My therapist said that I should try and get out a bit more so," Phil pulled a couple of tickets out from behind his back with a small smile. "I thought we could go to the cinema and maybe get some dinner out somewhere?"
Dan grinned widely and said, "That sounds amazing, Phil! (Haha got to keep the branding you know.. AmazingPhil) It's a date-" Dan's eyes widened as soon as he realised what he had said. He then proceeded to face palm and force out, "That's not-"
"It's okay." Phil couldn't hide the pink blush that was spreading across his pale face.
-
Dan smiled widely as Phil pulled out the chair for him in the restaurant. Phil then sat down opposite. There was a candle on the centre of the table and it was flickering with life. It kind of represented the life that was beginning to surface in Phil again and that just made Dan happy. The waiter walked over, holding his iconic notebook and pen. "What can I get you and your boyfriend?" He asked Phil.
"Oh no, we're not-" Dan started, going bright red but Phil cut him off.
"I'll have whatever he's having!"
Dan had to press his hands against his cheeks so that Phil didn't see how embarrassed and flustered he was getting. He just stammered out his order in a weak voice and watched the waiter walk away.
-
"Delicious! You have a wonderful choice in restaurant." Dan said, placing his knife and fork down on his plate.
"PJ actually recommended it to me. He said he took Sophie here on Valentine's Day and they both loved it." Phil smiled, taking a sip of his drink.
"Correction: they have a wonderful choice in restaurant."
"I'm so glad that you're my best friend, Dan."
"Me too. I love you so much."
"No homo?" Phil laughed, quoting most of the people on Tumblr.
Dan just let out a very manly giggle and replied, "No homo."
"We have roughly half an hour until the movie, what do you want to do?"
"We could just walk?"
"That's fine by me." Phil stood up, taking some money out of his pocket and placing it on the table. He held out his pale hand and Dan took it (but not without going bright red).
-
Dan's stomach was aching (in a good way). It felt like butterflies had found a home in there, fluttering around every time Phil even looked at him. He couldn't help but stare at his friend's beautiful face most of the movie, in the most loving way. If any of their fans could see, they'd immediately scream Heart-Eyes Howell! Because it literally was Heart-Eyes Howell.
Phil leaned over a little, slowly placing his head on Dan's shoulder. Dan tensed up but couldn't hide the bright smile on his face.
-
"That was nice." Dan mumbled, his hand still in Phil's. They were standing in front of Dan's bedroom door, ready to split apart so they could both go to sleep.
"Very. It boosted my mood quite a lot." Phil smiled softly and Dan went to turn away but Phil spoke up again. "Hey, Dan?"
"Yeah?" Dan turned back to face his friend, his stomach flipping.
"You make me so happy."
Dan smiled. "I try my best."
Phil leaned forward, his face getting very close to Dan's. His lips lingered in front of Dan's before he pressed them against the other man's. The kiss lasted nothing but a second and, when Phil pulled back, he fled into his room.
Dan couldn't help but sigh loudly to himself: all their progress was probably back to dust because of the kiss.
-
"Hey, Phil-" Noah started but he was quickly cut off by the other man's sharp tone.
"Why did you call me?" Phil quickly blurt out, not really wanting the conversation to last long- otherwise he might get caught up by Noah's fake charm again.
"I'm so sorry."
"Do you think you can just apologise and we'll be friends? You blackmailed my best friend, you're disgusting."
"No, Phil, I'm actually so sorry. I've been a mess since you broke up with me; I haven't gone a day without crying. I made a mistake and I know it. I need you... please, give me one more chance?"
"Noah, I-"
"Please?" Noah let out a loud sob and Phil's heart clenched: he couldn't bear to hear someone cry. It actually made him feel bad and doubt his choice. "We don't have to get back together.. we could just be friends?"
"I don't know..."
"How about I come to England and we can talk in person? I'll stay for a small amount of time and then you can see if you change your mind? If you still don't want to be friends then I'll just leave your life and never come back."
"Okay, fine but if you're ever rude to Dan, you will leave immediately."
"Thank you, Phil. I'll buy tickets tonight for as soon as possible."
"Okay... see you."
"See you soon, Phil." Noah hung up and that was when Phil realised his mistake.
-
"Noah is coming to England." Phil muttered one morning as he was eating his cereal and watching anime with Dan. He was frowning.
"No he isn't." Dan said in disbelief.
"He is. He'll be here next week."
"Why..?"
"He convinced me to give him another chance."
"That's.. the wrong thing to do and you know it. He made you depressed and you're only just getting better. He's going to make you sad again."
"He was crying and he sounded genuinely sorry. If he's rude to you, tell me and he'll be gone in seconds, okay?"
"Okay." Dan still wasn't for the idea at all but he didn't want Phil to be angry with him.
I wrote a new book called The Glass Room and I don't know whether to post it or not? It hasn't got a decent cover and it's a bit weird? It might be hard to understand?
This is the description:
Dan needs to let go. His parents died and he was left to live with his aunt.
Nothing was really the same and he just didn't want to let go of the people that once made his life happy.
He has a recurring nightmare that haunts him every night. He is stuck in a glass room and he doesn't know how to escape.
He's trapped. Not just metaphorically but literally too.
