Chapter 20- How Can This Be?!
{Zane's POV}
Without hesitation, I called my guards surrounding the garden's perimeters, and ordered them to follow me to Y/N's bedroom. Before I knew it, we were outside her door, about to bust in. As soon as we did, not only was I shocked to not find Kaylee and Y/N in the room, but more so that it wasn't Y/N's bedroom. At least, not as I remembered it. The room was filled with a pure, white glow, and that was all that the eye could see. Turning around, to make sure my guards were seeing the same thing I was, I realized they had fled, leaving their weapons on the ground. I walked in through the door and was engulfed in the light.
Next thing I knew, I was waking up in a bed that was not my own. It was a moderately overcast morning, and the sun was just starting to rise. Taking in the scenery around me, my immediate instincts told me to look out the window on the other side of the unknown bedroom. I got up and walked over to the window. At once, I knew where I was.
Zane: Dragonoore? Why am I here?
Suddenly, I heard the sound of feet running behind a door beside the bed I had woken up in. The door opened, revealing a young girl with short, blonde hair and dark brown eyes. When I saw her face, a name immediately came to mind. Maddie...
Maddie: Y/N, you up?
Zane: WHAT?!
Maddie: I'm sorry, Y/N! It's just that... You looked so peaceful and Lucas was with me too so he told me not to wake you up. If you want someone to blame, go blame Lucas!
Zane: LUCAS?! WHO'S LUCAS?! AND WHY IN IRENE'S NAME DID YOU CALL ME Y/N?!?!
Maddie: I'm sorry!
Zane: Sorry... SORRY?! Either tell me what is going on or leave my sight!
Maddie: Right, I'll go get ready for early morning training. See ya then, Y/N!
Zane: DO NOT CALL ME THAT SHAD-CURSED NAME!!!
What is going on here?! Does that mongrel not know who she's speaking to?! Maddie turned around and disappeared into the darkened doorway. I slowly followed her until I was surrounded by darkness.
???: Y/N! What are you doing up so late?!
I turned around and saw I was in a kitchen area. Behind the counter was a woman with dark hair and blonde highlights. Another name came to mind. Emma...
Zane: DO NOT CALL ME THAT!!! And to answer your question, my absence was caused by somebody by the name of Lucas?
Emma: Lucas? The young recruit? He sure is a troublemaker, isn't he? Well, I'm sure you'll get him straightened out when you become lord. He'll have to listen to you then.
Zane: When I become Lord?
Emma: Lord Fyre hasn't told you yet? Oh my Irene, I just spoiled the surprise... I am so sorry, Y/N.
Zane: I'M NOT- ugh... What do you mean?
Emma: I heard him talking about passing down the lordship to you while I was serving him lunch the other day. I think he explained it somewhere among the lines of "She meets all the standards of being a lord. I know that I can trust her with my people."
Zane: What?! I'm no lord, I'm a damned priest!
Emma: That's not what I heard... Oh, you must be hungry. Here, I made your favorite.
Emma reached behind the counter and revealed a silver tray with scrambled eggs, toast, an apple, and a cup of orange juice.
Emma: Oh dear, I forgot to mention that lord Fyre told me to tell you to meet him at the docks. He said it was fairly urgent.
Zane: Uncle Aiden? I might as well ask him what's going on. Thank you, uh, Emma.
Emma: Any time. Oh, and you didn't hear the information about you becoming lord from me! Got it?
I didn't hear the last thing she said, but as if by magic, I was teleported to the docks of Dragonoore Village.
Zane: Uncle Aiden!
Uncle Aiden: Good morning, my dear. How did you sleep?
Zane: Uncle Aiden, is everything alright?
Uncle Aiden: Oh Y/N, you know you can call me Aiden. No need to be so formal. And no, we are not expecting any deliveries today. My older brother and his wife have come to visit. They're very excited to meet you considering how much I've told them about you. Ah, here they come now.
Something isn't right here...
I looked towards the ship and a large ramp was pushed off of the boat. Soon after, a man and woman emerged from the ship, their arms linked. The man was tall and had short, curly blonde hair. His eyes were a vibrant blue that seemed as if he were wearing sapphires on his eyes. The woman, however, was shorter and had long black hair that looked like a night sky. Her eyes were also blue, but were a very light blue that seemed to shine. I also thought that they could represent stars in her hair that was dark as night.
Mom and Dad... This was the day we went to visit Dragonoore...
Uncle Aiden walked up to my father and held his hand out to shake his.
Uncle Aiden: Ah, Garte. What a pleasure to see you again, brother.
Garte: The pleasure is all mine, Aiden.
Uncle Aiden: And Zianna, it's been too long.
Zianna: Oh Aiden, is this our little Y/N?
Zianna and Garte both stared at me with kind eyes. Their appearances were so perfect. I never noticed it before...
Uncle Aiden: Of course. Y/N here is like a daughter to me.
Zianna: Oh, she is just beautiful, Aiden! But are you sure she's ready?
Uncle Aiden: I've never been more sure in my life.
Garte: Aiden-
Uncle Aiden: Shush, brother. I've made up my mind and I do not intend to change it. When the time comes, Y/N shall be the lord of Dragonoore Village.
Garte: Aiden... What about my son? You said he would be-
Uncle Aiden: I know what I said, brother. But I was thinking... Actually... Let's dicuss this more over lunch. For now, Y/N I believe you have something to be doing.
It was at that moment I heard a voice that had been there all along, I just hadn't heard it.
Y/N: Oh, right. Training the recruits, of course. I'll head there no-
It was the voice of Y/N...
Uncle Aiden: Actually, I will have the recruits take a day off. What I was implying was that I would like you to take my brother and his wife and their sons on a tour of the village.
Y/N: Sons? You brought your children with you?
And it was also at that moment, I finally understood what was happening...
Garte: Ah, yes. My boys should be out soon. They don't like traveling that much and get seasick easily. Garroth! Zane! Vylad!
I looked at the boat and a younger boy popped his head out from behind some crates. He looked nothing like his mother or father. He had emerald green eyes and short brown hair. He ran down the wooden ramp attached to the boat and stood by his father's side.
I'm living the day we came to Dragonoore...
Garte: This is our youngest son, Vylad.
Vylad ran right past me with his arms stretched out.
Vylad: Uncle Aiden!
Aiden: Well, hello Vylad! How have you been?
Vylad: Great! I've been training to be a guard!
As Y/N...
Aiden: Is that so? Well then, I have someone I want you to meet.
Uncle Aiden walked over to me and gestured his hand towards me.
Aiden: This is my head guard, Y/N.
Vylad: Is she my cousin?
Everyone laughed, even I chuckled a tiny bit.
Aiden: She might as well be! Y/N here is like the daughter I never had. She's kind, strong, smart, reliable, you name it. I trained her myself.
Vylad stared at me with large eyes.
He smiled and gratefully shook my hand. He had a strong grip, a very strong grip.
Garte: Vylad, where are your brothers?
Vylad turned around to face his father.
Vylad: Garroth said he was on his way out, but I'm not sure where Zane is.
Garte: Oh, Zane's probably reading books again. He's always so isolated in his room or in the study back at home. I'll go find him and Garroth.
As lord Garte turned to enter the boat, a boy emerged from the enterance. He looked a lot like lord Garte, but younger. Sort of like an adult.
Garte: Well, look who decided to show up?
Garroth: I'm sorry, father. It took me a while to get ready and I tried to convince Zane to come out with me.
Garte: Where is Zane, anyway?
Garroth: In his room reading a book on majicks, as usual.
Uncle Aiden: Garroth, this here is my personal guard and successor, Y/N.
So it was Uncle Aiden who decided Y/N would be the next Dragonoore heir...
Garroth: I didn't know you had a daughter, Uncle.
Uncle Aiden: I don't.
Not Y/N...
At that moment, everything went black...
And I woke up, back in my own bed.
With Y/N...
Nowhere to be seen.
