Chapter 80: Godt, Bas

Bas' POV

After P'Godt left the Breakfast Hall I quickly finished the rest of my breakfast. I felt a bit guilty eating too many baklava pieces but they tasted so good. I must burn out all the unwanted calories before I develop a double chin. Maybe I should stop by the gym later. I could do with a few hours on the treadmill and doing some bench presses and dumbbell lifts.

I made my way to the foyer and picked up one of the flyers that had the day's special activity offers printed on them.

Hmmmmm...... I skimmed through the list and found one activity that caught my interest. It was a documentary that was going to be shown in a room adjacent to the ship's theater rooms. The documentary was about paranormal experiences that several persons were going to recount in separate interviews to be conducted by a well known TV host.

I was very much into the supernatural and paranormal realms. This was one thing that BamBam and I had in common. We both shared stories of our own experiences and other people's experiences that were unexplainable to us.

The documentary was going to show in the afternoon. I had time to hit the gym, take a shower and miss lunch. After the heavy breakfast I was going to skip lunch.

When it was time to watch the documentary, I made my way to the designated room. I was surprised that so many people were there before me. The supernatural and paranormal would always be a subject of interest to people.

The room was like a small theater with a regular screen and rows of seats for the viewers. I was able to find an empty seat by the aisle of one of the middle rows.

Out of all the interviewees that recounted their experiences of the paranormal the one whose interview got me interested the most was that of a young man whose twin brother had passed away a few months just before the interview.

According to the young man, every morning after the passing away of his twin brother, he would be awakened at dawn by the sound of a hammer pounding against a wall somewhere in their house. He would look around the house but found no one among his family who would be pounding away with a hammer in the early hours of the morning.

He spoke to his father and an older brother about the noise that he would hear every morning but they didn't know anything about it and could not explain what it could be all about. The young man believed that the hammering sound came from underneath the stairs leading to their basement.

Finally, one morning, he decided to get out of bed at the same hour that he heard the hammering sound again. He followed where the sound was coming from and sure enough it was coming from the area underneath the stairs leading to the basement.

A rush of cold air hit his whole body as he went down the stairs and looked underneath the steps. One of the wooden planks had a loose nail and was slightly falling off. He went to wake his father up and his father took his toolbox from the garage of their home. With the use of one of his tools, the father removed the plank and, inside the space that it covered was a shoebox. The shoebox contained a photo. It was a photo of a pretty young lady. At the back of the photo was a name written on it.

Through diligent investigation they were able to locate the young lady. They found her address and they encountered her mother. The mother was just about to accompany the young lady to the hospital because the young lady was in labor and was going to deliver her baby any minute.

It turned out that the baby that the young lady was going to deliver was his nephew whom his twin brother had never talked to him about.

After the documentary, I excitedly made a call to BamBam. I knew that BamBam would be very interested in the story that I was about to tell him.

"BamBam's phone," someone else's voice came on the phone.

"Who's this?" I asked, feeling a bit annoyed.

"BamBam's boyfriend. Who are you?"

I did not bother to answer. I cut the call. I went to a vending machine and with shaky hands, dropped a few coins for a bottle of ice cold spring water.

I took several sips from the bottle, letting the cold liquid flow into my system. I made my way to my cabin and after finishing the contents of the water bottle I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling.

I was not going to cry. BamBam was not worth my tears.

For some reason, maybe out of mental and emotional exhaustion, I fell asleep and when I awakened my room had darkened.

I jumped out of bed and looked at the time on my phone screen. I still had time to catch some dinner.

As I made my way to the foyer, I started to wonder what P'Godt was doing at this time. Maybe I could invite him to join me for dinner.

My call went to voicemail.

Suddenly I felt this strange and strong yearning to be in P'Godt's strong and warm and comforting and protective arms. Where was he, where was my P'Godt???

I glanced at the white board just outside the opened double doors of the ship's dining hall. The dinner special for the evening was Brown Butternut Squash Pasta.

I did not bother to read the rest of what was written on the white board. I just needed to eat. A lot. A lot of comfort food. That was how I was whenever I was going through some emotional or mental stress. I took it out on food.

I caught sight of P'Godt the moment I set foot inside the dining hall. But wait, what??? He wasn't alone! He was having a dinner date with some guy who looked vaguely familiar to me.

I was going to ask myself later on why my reaction to seeing P'Godt with another guy was stronger than knowing that BamBam was cheating on me. I had no time to think of anything else right now. Right now I was on a rampage. I was in a hurricane kind of fury. The Katrina kind of hurricane that caused Louisiana to be under a state of emergency. No. One. No one was going to take P'Godt away from me.

I rushed up to P'Godt and grabbed his arm, not caring that in doing so I had made P'Godt drop his fork with a big clang on his plate. I didn't care that the noise attracted the attention of a few curious onlookers.

I dragged P'Godt wildly, blindly, willy nilly, out of the dining hall, bumping hard against someone who was in a hurry and was in a rush himself to approach the same table of P'Godt to lift P'Godt's dinner date in his arms and to carry him to another chair at another table.

"Where are you taking me? I haven't even taken a bite of my dinner yet......"

"Shut up, you big cheater! You deserve to starve to death!" I yelled at P'Godt as I continued to drag him into the open deck.

"What are you talking about?" P'Godt asked, even though he knew what I was talking about.

But then again I couldn't really consider it as cheating on P'Godt's part. We were not in a committed relationship. But still, the fact that I had feelings for him, even though belatedly, made it unacceptable for me to see him having a date with someone else.

"You know what I'm talking about!" I screamed at him, lunging against his chest, pounding on the hard muscles repeatedly.

He suffered my fists of fury until I grew tired and collapsed in his arms.

He led me to one of the benches that lined the wall of the open deck and made me sit down. Then he took a handkerchief from his pocket and dabbed at my eyes, wiping my tears gently away.

"Why won't you let me have dinner with someone else when you have a boyfriend whom you love?" he asked, his eyebrows meeting in a frown.

"I don't love BamBam! I hate him!" I cried, fresh tears trickling down my cheeks once more.

"Why the sudden change of emotion?" he asked, still looking puzzled.

"I found out that he's been cheating on me all this time!" I cried but I knew that my tears were not because of BamBam but because I was still upset that I found P'Godt having a dinner date with someone.

I looked up in surprise as P'Godt suddenly stood up and started walking away from me.

"P'Godt!" I quickly stood up to run after him, "why are you leaving me?"

P'Godt stopped and turned around to look at me with a very sad expression on his face.

"Bas, I am not going to let you use me as a stand-in for BamBam."

"But P'Godt, I don't have any feelings for BamBam anymore! I have just realized that it's you whom I truly love!"

"Then why are you crying at the thought of BamBam cheating on you?"

"You blind idiot! I'm crying because I caught YOU cheating on me with that... that... that ugly guy!"

P'Godt grabbed me and pulled me to his chest.

"Don't be mean, Bas, he's not ugly. In fact he's very handsome."

He held my arms tight to keep me from pounding against his chest once more. Then he lifted my face and slowly brought his lips to mine.
