Mean's POV

After the movie, Chimon announced that he wanted to take a dip in the pool and I could tell that he was hoping that I would join him. I really would have wanted to but I preferred to take an afternoon nap.

We parted ways by the elevator.

I was about to step into the elevator when it opened but then, "Mean!"

Plan walked out of the elevator, wearing a big pout on his face.

"I've been trying to reach you all afternoon but you won't take my calls," he complained.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Plan," I said, "I was in the movie house and had to mute my phone."

I wanted to tell him that if he had not left me behind at the open deck with Chimon and had not spent his lunch somewhere else with someone else I would have invited him to a movie instead of Pluem and Chimon.

"Oh, I see," Plan replied, looking resentful but it wasn't my fault.

"What are you planning to do for the rest of the afternoon?" he asked.

"Nothing really," I replied, mentally saying goodbye to my afternoon nap, "what about you? Why were you trying to reach me earlier anyway?"

"Oh I wanted to catch the live band in the main lobby," he replied, "their performance has already started half an hour ago but we can still watch the rest of the show until just before dinner. Then maybe we can have dinner together later."

"That is, if you still want to be in my company by then," he said as an afterthought.

"Why sure, I'd like to do that," I replied and I meant it. I wanted to know this cute little guy a little bit more. I wanted to know more about his story on why he was on this cruise ship alone and why he cried along with me after we finished listening to the Lady Antebellum song earlier.

We headed down to the main lobby where people had gathered around a stage where a band was playing the strains of some haunting romantic melody.

It could have been an oldies song because in the open area close to the stage, several pairs of people in their forties and older were holding each other and swaying to the music.

We found an empty table where a uniformed waiter immediately approached us to ask if we wanted to order any food or drinks.

I looked at Plan.

"Did you have anything in mind?" I asked him.

"A mimosa," he replied, and then added, "I'm paying for our drinks coz I invited you."

"Two mimosas please," I said to the waiter, and then I turned to Plan, "no, I'm paying, don't worry about it."

"Are you sure?" he asked, "I'm not exactly a pauper you know."

I laughed and flicked him lightly on his forehead, "you like to use dramatic words, don't you?"

He did not answer but started humming along to the melody.

"You like old songs?" I asked in surprise.

"Hmm," he nodded, "that is why I wanted to check out this band today."

"What is the title of the song that they're playing?" I asked, "I like the melody."

"Endless Love," he replied, "it's an 80s love song. I grew up listening to my mom's favorite songs."

"It sounds nice," I said.

The waiter arrived with our drinks and the bill.

"Thank you," I said, handing my credit card to the waiter.

Plan fished out his wallet and handed the waiter some cash as tip. The waiter thanked him and pulled out his small credit card machine from his shoulder purse.

He swiped my card in front of me. He then handed me the paper receipt for me to sign.

"Thanks," I said, handing the signed receipt back to him. He tore out the duplicate and handed it to me.

Plan was already sipping from his mimosa.

I did the same just as the band struck up a new song.

"Ooh, I like this one too," Plan said, humming the melody.

And then he stopped humming and started to sing the lyrics.

I happened to know the song. It was a Mariah Carey song called "Without You".

I did not have the heart to tell Plan that he was singing off key.

I took a deep long sip from my drink to drown out his voice. Sorry, Plan.

The band played several more songs as we continued to sip our drinks. Surprisingly enough, I knew several of the songs because my mom also used to play them in her car whenever she drove me to places I needed to go.

Then just as we finished our drinks, the band started to play another song.

Plan stood up.

"Let's go," he said.

I grabbed his arm as he started to walk away.

"Can we not go yet?" I asked, "I wanna listen to this song."

"I don't wanna listen to this song," he said, pulling his arm away from my grasp.

I would have wanted to listen to the song because I knew it well.

It was called "Unbreak My Heart".

"Plan!" I called after him.

I broke into a run because he was walking so fast that it felt to me like he was running.

Shit, he had rounded a corner and I lost him from my sight.

I almost stumbled over him when I rounded the corner myself.

He was crouched against the wall, his face digging into his knees.

"Plan! Are you alright?!?" I asked, crouching beside him and draping my arm across his shoulders.

He did not answer. He was sobbing softly into his knees.

"Who broke your heart?" I whispered into his ear.

I regretted asking the question.

His sobbing escalated. I rocked him gently in my arms as I waited for his sobs to die down.

"I thought it was going to be forever," he said over and over to himself.

It was as if he had forgotten that I was crouching there beside him.
