Singto's POV
"Tsk, tsk," the nurse Krist Perawat had said as he attended to my injury, "love triangles are one of the most dangerous places to get yourself into. I would rather be at the Bermuda Triangle."
We all had a laugh over that witty comment of his.
I wondered whether he was single and whether he had ever been in a love triangle before. I wondered whether he was talking from experience.
After he had finished his treatment, he handed me a couple of pain pills.
"I suggest you take these before the pain sets in, because believe me it will," he remarked.
"Thank you," I said, popping the pills into my mouth and taking the small tumbler of water that he gave me to ease them down my throat.
"If you feel any persistent pain that those pills can't take care of, feel free to come back and I will re-evaluate you," he added as he started to lead me and Tae out of the back room cubicle of the infirmary.
"Thanks, I will," I said, holding out my hand to him.
He took it and I was surprised to feel a vague gentle kind of electricity run through my veins at the feel of his hand in mine.
What was happening to me? Was I starting to get attracted to this nurse?
I better be careful because I'm aware that the ship's employees are not allowed to get involved with any passenger. I don't want myself to end up getting hurt.
"You're welcome," he had said, "take care now."
The gentleness in his voice when he said 'take care now' made my heart beat faster than usual. What the hell was happening to me.

Krist's POV
I hoped that Singto did not notice that my fingers were shaking as I was tending to his facial injury.
Why the hell were my fingers cold and clammy and shaky?
I had never reacted this way to any of my previous patients before.
I tried to deny the fact that I was instantly attracted to this guy. I reminded myself that he was a client of this ship and therefore it was strictly prohibited for me to get involved with him except for a professional reason.
As I leaned closer to him to dab his facial cut with a wound solution, the manly scent of his cologne drifted to my nose.
My heart started to beat so loud that I hoped he could not hear it.
I tried to do my treatment as slowly as possible in order to buy more time to be close to him but finally it had to be over.
I went over to the medicine cabinet and took out a couple pain pills from one of the medicine bottles and then poured some water into a small plastic cup and handed them to him.
"I suggest that you take these," I said, "before the pain sets in, because believe me it will."
He took the pain pills and the cup of water obediently and swallowed the pills.
"If the pain persists later on, feel free to come back here and I will re-evaluate you," I said.
He held out his hand to me saying "thanks" and I took it.
I hoped that he did not notice that my hand was cold and clammy from too much nervousness and excitement at his nearness.
After he and Tae left the infirmary, I tried my best to focus on my responsibilities and duties as a nurse until the end of my shift.
When my shift ended at seven in the evening, I went to the back entrance of the dining hall and went to the area in the back that was reserved for the ship's employees.

I said hello to the security officer who was already there.
I took a tray and a plate and utensils and proceeded to the serve yourself counter.
There was a choice of garden salad or a mini bowl of lentils. I wasn't too much into the taste of lentils so I chose the garden salad and drizzled it with some Italian dressing.
Then I moved over to the main buffet counter where I scooped a fillet of herbed salmon and then I had a choice of white jasmine rice to go with it or a big baked potato sliced wide open in the center on top of which was a generous serving of sour cream sprinkled with tiny bits of chives.
I could smell the fragrance of the jasmine rice but I really preferred the baked potato with the sour cream and chives, so I scooped one of them and placed it into my plate right beside the fillet of herbed salmon.
By the time I got to the long table, at the end of which the security officer was seated, he was already enjoying his Rocky Road ice cream for dessert.
I looked at him and then at the dessert pointedly.
"I know, I know," he said with a guilty laugh, "I promise to burn it off with a two hour heavy workout at the gym."
"I wasn't saying anything," I said with a smile.
"Sure," he said, "your pointed look spoke louder than words."
"You are a security officer," I reminded him, "you have to stay fit and trim."
"Fine," he said, setting down his spoon, leaving the rest of his Rocky Road unfinished.
"I'm gonna have an early night," he said as a way of saying goodbye to me, "I have to wake up at six in the morning to give myself time for the gym before I start my shift."
I just nodded. I had already shoved a forkful of the garden salad into my mouth and was munching on it so I couldn't get a word out.
As I was eating, my mind wandered back to Singto.
I knew that it was pointless to think of a way to spend time with him on a social basis while he was a passenger of the ship, however, before he disembarked I could probably manage to ask for his contact number. That way I could keep in touch with him.
I went to bed and fell into a fitful sleep.
Before I knew it, my alarm was already sounding, forcing me to get out of bed and to start my morning preparations for my day shift which started at seven in the morning.
After the usual endorsements from Tee, the other nurse who took over my shift last night, I went over to the staff room in the back where there was an electric kettle and a fresh assortment of croissants.
I made myself a cup of strong black coffee to keep me awake throughout my shift.
I took a napkin and wrapped it around a croissant and bit into it.
I was almost finished with my croissant and coffee when the receptionist buzzed me on the extension phone on the wall.
"Yes, dear," I said.
"There's a patient here who said that you told him to come back here so that you could re-evaluate the wound that you treated on his finger," the receptionist informed me.
I wiped my mouth with a napkin.
"Send him in," I said, walking into the cubicle to wait for Mark.

Yes, I remembered his name and I remembered treating a wound on one of his fingers and instructing him to come back in two days so that I could assess whether the wound was healing nicely or whether he had developed an infection on the site.
"Good morning, nurse," he said after he walked in and saw me seated inside the cubicle.
"Good morning, Mark," I replied, "how are you doing?"
"I'm doing alright," he replied.
"Are you feeling any pain in your finger?" I asked.
"Only if I press on it," he said, holding out his hand that had the wounded finger.
"Let's take a look at it," I said, already removing the bandage wrapping.
"Hey, it's healing nicely," I remarked, "have you been eating lots of fresh fruits as a source of natural vitamin C?"
"Yes, I have," he answered.
"Very good," I said, "continue to do so until it's completely healed. And then again, it would be good to always include fresh fruit and vegetables in your daily diet."
"Let me just dab it with some of this normal saline solution," I said, pulling out a cotton ball that was soaked in a jar of sterile normal saline solution. I used a sterile metal tong to fish it out and then transferred it to my gloved hand.
I dabbed it gently on the wound and then applied a small amount of triple antibiotic ointment on it before wrapping it with a dry dressing.
"Come to me one last time tomorrow," I said, leading him out of the cubicle and into the reception area, "if it has healed completely, I won't put a new dressing on it anymore."
"Thank you so much," said Mark.
I held out my hand to him, but instead of taking it, he pulled me into a tight hug.
At that exact moment, Singto walked into the reception area.
