This is a continuation of chapter 25

Chanagun's POV

Even as Joss was talking to the other two guys at their table, I looked around for an empty one.

There was one close to the glass counter where the sous chef was handing out his breakfast special behind it.

I had not gone to him to get one because I wasn't much into sweet stuff.

I set my tray on the table that I found, and then soon after, Joss joined me.

I heard someone laughing out loud two tables away from me.

The guy was certainly good looking and he was well built and muscular to boot.

I wondered how many hours he spent at the gym. I thought of my own muscles and how they needed firming and toning. I should take time to visit the gym in this ship.

"Hey, do you know which deck the gym is located?" I asked Joss before taking a sip from my coffee cup.

"It's on the same deck where the infirmary is located," he replied.

"Have you been there before?" I asked.

"Not yet, but I checked it out already because I plan to go there after lunch later," he answered.

As an afterthought, he asked, "You wanna join me?"

"Sure," I replied, taking my phone out of my pocket and handing it to him.

"Can I have your number just in case either one of us can't make it?" I asked.

He took my phone and keyed in his number into it, then I tapped on the number to get my phone registered on his.

"You really should have tried the banana nut muffin," Joss said, taking a second bite from it, "it tastes heavenly."

"I'm not much into sweet stuff," I told him.

"But this one's not the sickly sweet kind of muffin," he informed me, "it's got just the right amount of sweetness. Here, take a bite."

I couldn't refuse because he was holding the muffin half an inch away from my lips.

I took a small bite and chewed slowly. He was right.

I stood up, forgetting to excuse myself from him, and went straight to the sous chef who was just about to turn away because the last passenger had just taken his banana nut muffin.

"Excuse me, Mr. sous chef," I called out to him and he turned around to look at me.

I tried not to get distracted by his eyes that were the perfect shape of lotus petals.

"Would you happen to have any more of your breakfast special?" I asked, smiling at him. I usually do not smile at people whom I had not met before.

"Sure," he answered enthusiastically, "I had been watching you when you first came in and noticed that you had ignored my breakfast special. What made you change your mind?"

"My table companion over there made me take a bite from his share and I got convinced that I should try it," I replied.

"Good decision," said Mr. Lotus Petals, handing me my banana nut muffin on a small plate.

"Thank you very much, sir," I said, smiling more broadly this time.

"Have a blast with it," he replied, smiling back at me.

On my way back to my table, the guy who had earlier laughed out loud, said to me, "You won't regret that you decided to try that muffin."

Had he been listening on my conversation with the sous chef?

"I'm sure I won't" I said to him.

Suddenly he stood up, holding out his hand to me. I transferred my plate of banana nut muffin to my left hand and shook his hand with my right one.

"Hi, my name is Foie," he said, "you mind telling me yours?"

"I'm Chanagun," I informed him, "but you can call me Gun for short."

"Nah," he said, "if you don't mind, I wanna call you Chani for short."

"Chani it is then," I agreed.

Actually I liked the sound of Chani. No one had ever called me Chani before. From now on I'm gonna be telling people to call me Chani for short.

"Great," said Foie, "I'll see you around, Chani."

I did not get to see Joss at lunch but I made sure to join him at the gym after lunch.

There were still a lot of people in the dining hall taking their lunch even though it was already half past one o'clock. Lunch would end at two so I still had a half hour to kill.

The pesto pasta with sun dried tomatoes and roasted asparagus tasted really good. I was tempted to have it with a bottle of beer but I had planned to go to the gym later so I settled for a glass of iced pink lemonade for my choice of beverage.

I always preferred to go to the dining hall whenever the meals were winding down because I wanted a table all for myself. I did not like people approaching me to ask to join me at my table because the other tables were all occupied.

"Hey," I heard a voice behind me.

I turned around. It was Foei, the guy who had introduced himself to me earlier at breakfast.

"How's it going?" I asked politely, hoping that he would not join me for lunch.

No such luck.

"You mind if I join your table?" he asked, already setting his tray on the table and pulling a chair.

I looked around pointedly at the empty tables around us.

"I know, I know," he said, smiling sheepishly, "but I get lonely eating alone."

"Where are your companions?" I asked.

"I came alone," he replied, "my cousin backed out at the last minute. How about you, are you here alone or with a group?"

"Alone," I replied, "I always travel alone."

Foie's POV

I watched as the good looking guy with eyeglasses approached the sous chef for a banana nut muffin.

I already had my eye on him when he first came into the Breakfast Room.

I tried to think of a way to join him at his table but I noticed that another guy had joined him. I wondered if they were together as a couple.

Well, anyway, there were two other guys whom I had befriended the other day at the pool and we had agreed to meet for breakfast today so I couldn't very well abandon them just to be with the guy with eyeglasses.

I had to find a way to get to know him.

When he got his banana nut muffin, I remarked to him as he passed by my table, "You won't regret that you decided to try that muffin."

"I'm sure I won't" he had replied with a smile. I decided to introduce myself to him. I stood up from my table and held out my hand to him.

I waited as he transferred the small plate with his banana nut muffin from his right hand to his left and then shook my hand with his right hand.

"My name is Foei," I said, "you mind telling me yours?"

"I'm Chanagun," he said, "but you can call me Gun for short."

"Nah, I'm gonna call you Chani instead," I said. For some reason I felt that Gun for a name did not suit him.

He seemed to like the idea of being called Chani for short because he agreed with a smile.

"I'll see you around, Chani," I said, as he walked back to his table.

I studied his companion. HIs companion was very good looking and very muscular and well built but I had a heavier build than him.

I wondered if Chani did not like heavily built guys.

Well, I thought, I would just have to take my chances.

I had hoped to catch him at lunch time but eleven o'clock came, and twelve noon and then one in the afternoon also came and he never went into the dining hall.

I schooled my stomach not to complain. I was willing to wait it out until one forty five, fifteen minutes before closing time.

My heart jumped when I saw him come in alone. I had been expecting him to come in with the guy who was with him earlier. I was prepared to tough it out at being a third wheel as long as I was able to be in his company.

Wonder of wonders, he was alone.

I had been watching through the glass windows of the open deck and when I saw him walking inside the dining hall I quickly got out of the open deck and went inside the dining hall as well.

I waited until he was able to get his lunch tray and beverage, and then I took my own lunch tray and beverage and approached him at his table.

"Hey," I said, trying to sound cool but for some reason I felt that my voice had come out with a squeak, goddammit, why did I feel so nervous.
