This is a continuation of Chapter 18.
Also, I will be introducing one last character for this story, just to even up the pairings, otherwise someone will be left out without a partner and I want everyone to have a happy ending.
Joss' POV
I wasn't lying when I said to the guys who asked to join my table that my day was starting as a "blah" day.
This cruise vacation was already on its third day but I still hadn't found anything exciting.
I had gone to several attractions that the ship had to offer but I didn't find any of them to my satisfaction.
I was beginning to regret that I had booked this vacation.
I should have gone surfing on the waters of Mentawai Islands instead. I heard that the waters there were perfect for surfing.
I stood up and excused myself from the other three guys who were still eating their breakfast. I was not inclined to make conversation with them.
I wanted to digest my breakfast by going out to the open deck to breathe in some fresh sea air.
When I got there, there were already several people whom I had seen earlier at the Breakfast Room. They were there with the same idea as myself.
I wanted to be alone though. I was not in the mood for company.
I decided to go up three decks higher where my cabin was located. I was hoping that the open deck on that floor would be vacant.
When I reached my desired deck, I went straight for the open deck.
Shit, I could see through the large glass windows that there was already someone leaning against the railing, looking out to the ocean.
A.N: The image above does not belong to me. It belongs to the person who uploaded it on the internet.
For those who don't know him, his name is Chanagun Arpornsutinan. He has played supporting roles in Love Sick the series and Sotus. He was the one who sang the main theme music for Love Sick the series. He has a really good singing voice.
Well, at least one person was better than nine persons which was the number of people that I had estimated were on the other open deck where I just came from.
I didn't realize that the door would bang shut when I closed it after me.
The noise made the other guy look around and at me.
I waved slightly at him and he did the same.
He looked just as bored as I was.
One foot of his was resting on the first rung of the railing while the other foot was firmly planted on the floor.
I was undecided whether to join him or not. What if he was wishing that I would leave him alone with his thoughts. And then again, what if he was hoping that I would join him and make some conversation with him to brighten his boring day.
I decided to take the risk and boldly walked towards him.
"Would you please help me to jump off this railing?" I asked, already pretending to climb the first rung of the railing.
He pushed me roughly off the railing.
"You have got to be kidding me!" he yelled, wide eyed at me.
I started to laugh.
"I was just trying to start our conversation in an exciting way," I confessed to him.
"I don't appreciate it," he said to me with a frown, "what if I had a weak heart and ended up with a heart attack??? Don't ever try that stunt on anyone on this ship again, you hear me?"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," I said, "I wasn't thinking about that."
I hoped that my voice sounded sincere enough because I was truly sorry for giving him such a fright.
I held out my hand to him.
"My name is Joss," I said with a smile.
He hesitated briefly before taking my hand.
"And mine is Chanagun but you can call me Gun for short," he said, his frown disappearing from his face.
"I'm sorry if you had wanted to be alone," I said, "I actually wanted to be by myself as well. I just came from the open deck where the Breakfast Room is but there were already a lot of people when I got there."
"I have no problem with you joining me," he assured me, "I just wanted to enjoy the fresh sea air before I go down for breakfast."
"I suggest that you go down now before you miss out on the breakfast special of the day," I remarked, hoping that if he decided to do as I suggested, I would be enjoying the whole open deck by myself.
"What is the breakfast special of the day?" he asked.
"Banana nut muffin." I informed him.
"Nah," he said, shaking his head, "it doesn't appeal to me. I'm just gonna make myself some marmalade on toast and a cup of coffee with vanilla cream is all."
"Well then, I guess you can stay here a little while longer to enjoy the sea breeze," I said.
"Yeah, I prefer to go to the Breakfast Room when it's almost empty," he said.
"It looks like you prefer to avoid crowds," I said.
"Yup," he said, "Two's company, three's a crowd, as the saying goes."
I wondered if that was his way of telling me that my present company was alright with him.
"Are you on this vacation alone or with a group?" he turned his face to me to ask.
"I almost came with a group because it would come out cheaper but there was someone in the group that I wanted to avoid so I decided to come alone," I replied, wondering if I had revealed too much of my personal status.
He did not say anything for a while.
"I have always been a loner," he finally spoke up, "I always prefer to travel alone."
"Doesn't it ever get lonely?" I couldn't help probing. This guy was starting to intrigue me.
"I have gotten used to it," was all he wanted to say to me.
We both stood against the railing for some time, just looking out across the waters, breathing in the fresh sea air.
Then Chanagun looked at his watch.
"I guess I should go and get my breakfast now," he remarked.
For some reason I no longer wanted to be alone.
"Can I join you for breakfast?" I asked, hoping that he wouldn't turn me down because he had told me earlier that he was a loner by nature.
He hesitated before saying, "I got no problem with that, let's go."
So together we made our way down to the Breakfast Room.
"Is your cabin located on this floor?" I asked, just as the elevator opened to take us down to the Breakfast Room.
"Yeah," he replied, "what about you?"
"Same," I said, "that's why I decided to come up here after breakfast."
"Wait," he said, while pressing the button to the lower deck, "if you've had breakfast already, why are you joining me?"
I had to think of a quick excuse.
"Oh, I wanted to have a second cup of coffee," I said, "I am a coffee addict."
"Better than being a nicotine addict," he remarked.
"You're right," I was sincere in my agreement. I had some classmates in school who started smoking just for the fun of it and then got hooked.
While Chanagun went to get a tray and plate and utensils and started putting his choice of breakfast stuff on his plate, I went to the beverage counter and fixed myself a cup of coffee.
Then I went ahead to look for a table for myself and Chanagun.
My heart stopped when I happened to glance at a table with four people seated by it.
I had to school myself not to show any emotion as I approached that table.
"Tay!" I said with a forced smile, "fancy meeting you here!"
Just as I expected Tay countered back with hostility.
"Joss!" he said my name sharply, "you said you were not going to be on this cruise vacation! What made you change your mind?"
"You wanna discuss it over coffee?" I offered, forgetting that I had come here to join Chanagun for coffee.
He glanced at my hand that was holding my cup of coffee.
Did I see a tinge of regret briefly cross his face?
"I've had my coffee, Joss," he said in a less sharper tone of voice, "and as you can see I got company."
"Another time then?" I asked, holding my breath for his answer.
"I don't think so," he replied.
And with that he grabbed one of the guys' hand and pulled him out of the Breakfast Room, leaving the other two fellows still sitting at the table.
One of them turned to me with a pleasant smile.
"You wanna join us?" he offered.
Just at that moment, Chanagun approached me with his breakfast tray.
"There are many empty tables over on that side," he said, motioning with his head over to one side of the room, "unless you want to join this group. Are they your friends?"
"No," I answered Chanagun, and then turning to the guy who asked me if I wanted to join them, "thank you but I have company."
