Chapter 6
Laila shook her head quickly, "No, no, nothing like that. It is just that he says things sometimes that make me feel scared, like he is capable of anything". She decided to hide the incidents but still wanted to voice her feelings. Mihir nodded with an understanding look on his face, "You know you can always come home, right? We will figure out a way to keep you safe and I will always be there for you."
Laila felt a lump form in her throat at her brother's words. She knew that her family loved her and only wanted the best for her, but she also knew that going back home was not an option after how they had married her away just like that. They had made her choice, and she had to live with the consequences, but she knew that Mihir definitely would be there for her, even if it gets bad.
"Thanks, Mihir" she said softly and gave him a hug, "I appreciate it, But I have to stay with Parth, we just got married and I guess marriage is about compromise and adjustment, I just got into it and I'm not going to abandon already". Mihir looked at her sceptically. "Are you sure about that?", Mihir was concerned by her words, and he had a feeling there was more to it than to what she said.
Laila nodded firmly. "Yes I am , I made a promise to him and I intend to keep it for a lifetime and I should at least give a fair try" .Mihir sighed, but didn't push the issue any further, "Okay , Just remember that we're here for you if you need us , You know that I'll always be there for you" . Mihir held her hand in a reassuring way, and it was truly comforting for her.
Laila smiled weakly, grateful for her brother's support. She knew that she was in a difficult situation, but she also knew that she couldn't give up on her marriage so easily. She had to find a way to make things work with Parth, no matter how hard it might be. It was just the beginning, but she was already in the verge of running away to her home and never leave her safe haven, but she knew that she had to give a fair try to the commitment.
It was a warm, yet breezy evening and the air was filled with the delicious aroma of home-cooked food. Laila's family had gathered for their first dinner together after her marriage to Parth. They sat around the dining table, catching up and sharing stories about their lives. It felt surreal to her, to be sitting there in that table. She sat next to Parents and Mihir sat across her, Ditching the table manners, they were chatting.
"How's married life treating you, Laila?" her mother asked, pouring some water into her glass and Laila felt her breath hitch. "It's wonderful, Mom" Laila replied, a smile spreading across her face. "Parth is the best husband I could have asked for" said Laila lying through her teeth just to not worry her parents and she was hoping that things would get better. Her father nodded with a proud expression on his face, "We knew he was the right choice for you."
"Right choice" scoffed Mihir and Laila shot him a look, Mihir sat there nonchalantly, "A guy was stupid and crazy doesn't mean you marry off your only daughter in a hurry and put the pressure of her shoulder to adjust accordingly" said Mihir Sharply. "Mihir" called out his mother in a warning tone and Mihir continued his nonchalant stance, "Why should the girl suffer for another guy's crime."
"Laila said she is doing well in her house, she isn't suffering" said their mother, Laila shot Mihir a look to not spill what she told him in confidence. "You've put on the burdens on Laila's young shoulder, she's still a kid and you did this just because of that piece of shit", Laila's mother gasped at the disobedience showcased by her son. "Mihir behave" said Their father in a strict tone.
"Why should I Stop from telling the truth and facts you're trying to brush aside, In the age of finding her true self you guys made her marry a guy because of an another crazy guy, It wasn't the solution to the problem in the first place, Now you've put responsibilities of other people on her shoulder's while she haven't even her found herself" scoffed Mihir and Tears started to collect in their mother's eyes
"Mansi" said their father softly and held her hand to comfort, He then shot a shut up look to Mihir but he rolled his eyes. "You can put stop to my words but it doesn't change the part that I am right and remember that none of the emotional dramas are going to make me feel any different about the injustice you did to my sister" said Mihir, He got up from the table and walked off
The whole table was silent, Mansi sobbing, and Neel was consoling her while Laila sat there dumbfounded. Laila had hoped that she'd find some piece but that wasn't happening for sure, Laila knew that Mihir wasn't wrong and she had fought a bit for the same but now it's at a point with no return that she was accustomed what fate had written for her and no amount of truth bombs would make any change.
Laila walked towards Mihir's room and knocked softly at his door, "Laila don't come here to lecture and defend them unnecessarily" Mihir snorted. Laila opened the door and found him sitting in his bed, she sat across him. "Mihi what was that at the dining room?" asked Laila and Mihir had a mocking smirk on his face, "The actual Truth" and Laila was silent. "Doesn't you can treat them like that, they deserve better" said Laila feebly.
Mihir scoffed, "Don't you deserve better Laila", "But-" Laila was cut off by Mihir. "But what Laila? You do not deserve better things?" asked Mihir. " But we are family, and we should be there for each other, even in times of disagreement, our parents have always supported us and made the best decisions for us, we should respect them for that" said Laila and Mihir looked at her in complete disbelief.
"You're right, Laila. I should have handled things differently. I'm sorry for causing you and our parents pain by telling the truth" said Mihir bitterly and Laila sighed, "The past is past and what's done is done, There's no point to them so we are going to drop that" said Laila and looked at Mihir with hope and Mihir rolled her eyes. "Mihi" said Laila softly with puppy eyes, "Fine, whatever" said Mihir with a scoff and Laila smiled at him in relief.
The days passed in the blink of an eye, she was sitting in the car with Parth, and she was already feeling homesick. The realisation that this is what her life held for her pained her deeply and was some kind of wound that was painful yet reassuring. Laila had noticed the ticking anger in Parth's face, but she decided to ignore it and put her mind somewhere else, she looked out the window in ignorance.
She kept her foot inside the home with some weird feelings tangled in her mind, but she ignored it. It was night and it was time to get some sleep, she looked at him and remembered him saying that they will work on their marriage, the thought of optimism brought a smile on her face. This smile was caught by Parth, but he didn't reciprocate any part of it and got up from the bed.
He still had the cold face with hint of anger in them, she felt knots in her stomach seeing her expression which had some kind of secrets in them. "Why are you smiling all of a sudden like a crazy person" asked Parth in a monotone voice, "N-N-Nothing" stuttered Laila. "Thinking about the time when I said that all I did was a joke, and I didn't mean any of it?" asked Parth and Laila was silent.
He scoffed at her silence and all of a sudden clutched her hair tight in his fist and pulled her face towards his, she winced in pain, and he did that so she could hear everything loud and Clear. "My naïve wife Laila, you're too innocent yet a calculating bitch at the same time, I think that you sometimes are just stupid and for the other you act innocent while you're a cunning bitch."
Laila looked at him in complete disbelief, she could not digest what he had just told, and she had questions clouding her mind like why he said such nasty things about her. She knew that something major was coming her way and she stood there frozen. "Still stupid?" said Parth and She looked at him with confusion, He had an evil smirk on his face.
"I lied" said Parth....
