Chapter 10
All Alone, that is what Laila felt. The house was getting vacated one by one, it is going end with just him and her and that thought was enough to give her goosebumps. He is like whirlwind in a course to destroy her and shatter her into pieces, she still does not know why, and that question equally haunts her mind. The answer to attain her salvation from this pain and torture, she took a deep breathe in.
She felt like the walls were slowly closing in on her, she is getting more stuck between the closing walls while the second passes. Pulkit and Prachi left few days ago and Prihan left that day. After Vanya and Rishi leaves, It is just her and him. Completely isolated to deal with his actions, no loophole or cheat code to save herself. She was determined to find the why and her only option was from what he mutters out.
She decided to come out of her shell and go downstairs. She had to meet up with Vanya, Vanya was leaving so She was explaining to Laila how things work there. She put up her calm facade, she learned how to keep a façade from the best, Her husband. "Laila, I'll explain a few things to you," Vanya said and Laila nodded. Her heart heavy with the weight of responsibility that was about to be placed upon her shoulders.
As Vanya began to explain the intricacies of managing the household staff, overseeing the daily operations, and maintaining the grandeur of the mansion, Laila listened intently, absorbing every word. Despite her initial reluctance due to Parth, she found herself drawn in by Vanya's warmth and wisdom. "Remember, communication is key," Vanya said. "You must be firm but fair with the staff and always prioritize the needs of the family with inner workings."
She admired how much it took for the smooth functioning of everything, and the way Vanya did it so effortlessly. She was well aware this was the tip of the iceberg of how much Vanya actually did. "I'll keep that in mind Mom and Thank you for entrusting me with this responsibility," said Laila. Vanya smiled, "Laila I have no doubt that you'll handle everything with grace and efficiency", Vanya softly patted on her shoulder reassuringly.
Vanya shared anecdotes and memories from her time managing the mansion, imparting valuable lessons to Laila along the way. Despite the bittersweet undertone of their conversation, Laila found herself feeling grateful for the opportunity to learn from someone as experienced and knowledgeable as Vanya. "How long have you been doing this" asked Laila with curiosity and Vanya stopped on her track. "I was not too young up to the times standard, but this came to me off guard but yes since I married so from 22" explained Vanya.
"You're the same age as me but very much younger than current standards, I still wonder why your family was ok with marrying off this early, was it because it was a good stable proposal which was no less than boon which families wish for" said Vanya zoned off and Laila dwelled into her actual fate. She too believes it is too early, the misunderstanding that rose during the period with a good proposal, that is all it took. Vanya was not wrong about her situation, but she did not clarify or say her side.
"Oh Shit, I didn't mean to offend you or say about your family, I was actually lost in the thoughts of my own family who did this, I've nothing to say over their decision but that they did repent but their repent came out with the same result," said Vanya. "Mom, I know you didn't mean that and actually there's truth to it too, the proposal being too good to pass on did influence me being here" said Laila reassuringly and in a genuine tone. "Mom, can I ask you a personal question?" asked Laila while she fidgeted her fingers.
"Yes sure, I'll answer if I Can" clarified Vanya and Laila nodded. "How was marriage for you at the starting" asked Laila. "Too much in every sense, Even though I wasn't young up to standards but that wasn't what I felt, I wanted to do more but then I took care of this then kids, It's truly a blur but you at least have a partner to figure that out with, You're not alone" said Vanya reassuringly, Laila could read that Vanya's eyes didn't meet what she said. "Also refrain from the nodding, use words instead" said Vanya and Laila muttered a yes.
"Rishi used to correct me so much that I was so annoyed but Later I saw the impact, I used to join him at parties and I'd be just his wife, People consider me powerless but They don't because I don't do soft nods, I answer and I'm sharp on what I said, I've a voice and not just a voiceless doll" explained Vanya and Laila understood every word she said. "I understand mom, I'll make an effort," said Laila. "Dear, you're going to be taking over what I did, I want you to be strong to deal with all that," said Vanya.
"I'll be mom, you'll be proud" said Laila determined. Vanya patted her head reassuringly and left. All the characters in this house were no less than a mystery, even the ones you might seem you know well since they're like an open book were tangled in so much secrets and emotions, Laila didn't understand how much is she aware of and how much she is actually supposed to be aware of. She definitely knew that she needed to unveil more to know the truth to her torment and tormenter.
She felt like the women of the mansion were welcoming but at the same time there were much more to them than what comes to eye. Her Mother-In-Law, for her was such a case, A mystery that lied in every word of hers. Every member of this family was following the same formula, they might say stuff but there is more to everything they say, and it seems so effortless. One of the women, the one she has not met yet and the one most tied to her.
Purvi Manvik, the one she who's mysterious words she has not yet come across. She knew that Purvi might lead her to the answer but now was not the moment, but she was going to uncover before Vanya left the house. Vanya is the only one who would even go around the same lanes, maybe away but the closest she might get. She reassured her.
The bustling London airport echoed with the sounds of travellers and announcements as Prihan stepped out into the crisp evening air. He adjusted his backpack on his shoulders, taking in the familiar sights and sounds of the city. He made his way through the crowded arrivals hall, her eyes scanned the bustling crowd, searching for a familiar face. Her eyes lighting up as she caught sight of him.
"Prihan!" called out Romaisa, her voice filled with excitement. Prihan's heart skipped a beat as he made his way towards her, a smile spreading across his face, "Macy" he called out lovingly. They met in the middle of the bustling airport, their arms wrapping around each other in a warm embrace. "I missed you" Romaisa whispered against his ear. "I missed you Macy" Prihan replied
They pulled apart while their hands still intertwined as they made their way towards the exit. They stepped out into the cool London evening, walking in comfortable silence while the city lights casting a soft glow over the bustling streets. "I'm so glad you're back" Romaisa said, breaking the silence. Prihan smiled softly and said, "Me too, it feels good to be home". "Home is where the heart is" said Romaisa quoting the lyric and drew a heart in his chest, He returned a smile at her action.
Romaisa navigated the familiar streets of London, Prihan sat beside her in the passenger seat, his heart filled with warmth and contentment. The gentle hum of the car engine provided a soothing backdrop to their conversation as they made their way towards Prihan's home. Romaisa glanced over at Prihan, "So tell me about the wedding, how was it?". Prihan rolled her eyes in response, "Chaotic".
"She seems like a nice person, but Parth Brother's Timing and request seems off to me, In the end It is what it is" explained Prihan and Romaisa nodded. Romaisa's eyes sparkled with curiosity, "And what about the ceremony? Was it traditional?". "Yes, it was a traditional ceremony, filled with rituals and customs passed down through generations," said Prihan. "Mrs Vanya Manvik is the groom's mother so what else do you expect" continued Prihan and Romaisa chuckled.
They approached Prihan's home; Romaisa pulled into the driveway and parked the car. They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, taking in the peace the moment held due to each other's presence. Prihan turned to Romaisa, "Thank you for driving me home," he said. Romaisa smiled and her eyes shined with affection, "It was my pleasure, I'm just happy to be here with you and I'm glad you're back".
"Love you Prihan" said Romaisa with a big smile.
"Love you Macy" said Prihan returning the smile.
