I Like Me Better

A small giggle escaped her lips as she twirled in front of the full length mirror of her room, looking like an enchantress.

Dressed in a bottle green and red colored suit, with a heavy duppata, the zardozi work beautifying the look even more, she was in absolute daze since the moment she'd heard the sentence from her mother.

"Today is the day Neysa. The man we'd liked for you is coming at our house with his family. Go get ready my child."

At 22 years of age, she'd just completed her graduation and had absolute no interest in studying further. And instead, what she wanted to do was to be an interior designer for which she'd already completed her course. All she needed to do was an internship at her father's friend's, and then a job or her own venture. Time would probably decide that.

But the one condition her family had no problem with her doing so was that she was to get married after graduation which she herself had no problem with.

Oh, only she knows how much she dreams of a loving husband, someone who would tease her, someone who would be just like her, someone who would be her bestfriend.

She had seen her girl bestfriend getting married with their classmate in college who was somewhat their friend as well. That two's relationship was a bomb blast. Having only an age difference of a couple of months, their thoughts similar for everything, it was evident to Neysa how much the two enjoyed their lives despite being at such a young age.

And the most shocking part? Theirs too was an arranged marriage.

That's why she had no problem in doing one either. The only thing she hoped for was the best husband. A cute one probably?

Oh she knew everyone termed her as cute or adorable. And if her husband would also be a cute one, wouldn't a pair of two cute humans rock their world of marriage?

Cute+Cute= Perfect Marriage.

But was she right in believing so?

A knock on her bedroom door interrupted her mind full of thoughts. Some good ones about future.

"Neysa, are you ready? Come come, they've arrived and are calling you downstairs." Her mother softly smiled at her.

A big blush formed on Neysa's cheeks at the thought of her meeting the man who could probably be her husband in some days. She was just so excited.

She nodded slightly and followed her mother with small steps.

As she kept retreating the stairs, her nervousness kept increasing each passing second. From blushing head to toe, she had gotten to shivering head to toe.

And then one relaxing smile from her mother had made her hum in calmness.

To her ears reached the loud voices of multiple people probably from the living room. And damn she definitely heard one husky voice amongst all other.

Is that her to be husband?

Her eyes landed on multiple people sitting in the lounge. Her father with her brother beside him and in his arms was her nephew of 2 years, and beside him was her sister in-law. On the other hand, the prospect of Groom's family was sitting in a way that their backs were visible to her.

There were four people sitting from their side. As she got closer it was only for a big frown to appear on her forehead as she noticed the Kapoor family sitting there, looking normal as ever.

And why won't they be normal?

They visited them almost every Sunday or it was vice versa!

Her father, Tarun Kashyap was bestfriends with Amit Kapoor and they loved the times when the two families would spend some quality time together.

And it was then her orbs landed on the male sitting on the couch that appeared small for his structure. His one ankle was crossed over the other leg, taking most of the space while his hand was on the back of the couch, reaching the very end.

He was dressed in a black dress shirt, with black formal slacks and a pair of leather shoes. Oh, why did she even expect him to wear anything except formals?

But did it match his appearance? For sure it did.

The midnight black hair were slicked back as always, not a single strand out of the place while his brown eyes as always didn't show much emotions. His beard, kept clean and trimmed to perfection as always enhanced the ruggedness.

In short, he was serious, plain and boring.

"Mom, you said the to-be Groom's family is here. Where are they because I can't see them." Neysa frowned turning towards her mother.

Her mother coughed loudly to save the situation and gestured from her eyes and hands towards the Kapoor family who was already looking at her with big smiles.

Well everyone except him.

"What?" She pouted, not able to understand a single thing happening.

"My child, they are your Groom's family. The Kapoor's are here to fix your marriage with Rayaan."

And it was only two sentences and a revelation from her mother that took Neysa to fall, her mouth dropped open due to shock. In front of everyone.

Yes, she fainted.

And Rayaan just shook his head with a known look, glancing at her fainted form.

//////////

"Umm should we call the doctor?"

"No, she probably fainted due to happiness."

"But look at her. She's not waking up."

"Don't worry about that. She will soon."

"Rayaan, why don't you try?"

"No. I am good."

"Okay fine."

"Neysa..."

No response.

"Neysa."

Again no response.

"Neysa!" And one strict tone from him had made her jolt away, now sitting upright on the bed, looking fresh as ever.

"Wh- at-? What happened? Where am I?" She panicked looking here and there.

"You fainted my child. How are you feeling?" Her mother asked, coming towards her as she checked her temperature.

And then all the memories came crashing down her mind and all she could do is let out a cry full of irritation.

"Not good. I barely feel alive. I think let's drop the plan of marriage." She rambled looking at everyone with a fake sad expression.

"But you seem fine to me." Her sister in-law came forward, examining her face.

Not right now.

No matter how much she loves her sister in-law, at this moment she appeared to be irritating.

"Well, we all should go outside and leave Neysa and Rayaan to talk. We will decide everything afterwards." Rayaan's mother politely butted in.

No one seemed to have any problem with it and agreeing to this, everyone left.

Everyone except Rayaan who was looking at Neysa's pouting form who was also huffing every next second.

"I hope you know that this pout won't work." He voiced out as he sat beside her form who was sitting on the support of bedpost.

"What am I supposed to do then?" She pouted even more.

"Stop this drama and act like a mature woman." He didn't hesitate to say.

"Arrrrrghhhhhhh! This is why! This is the reason I hate you!" She huffed, getting up from the bed frantically.

She was now standing on the bed, skillfully towering his sitting form who had his eyebrows raised towards her.

"Why are you serious always the goddamn time? Why can't you act like a normal person and laugh like everyone does? Why can't you enjoy the things I do instead of scolding me every now and then? Why do you have to act like a oldie? Oh, why act? You are old!" She screamed out of frustration.

"I am 29."

Was his only response.

"Exactly! I need a bestfriend to marry. Not a nemesis." She cried.

"We're not nemesis. You've been calling us as nemesis unnecessarily since forever when there's nothing like that." He stated.

"And if it's about me acting the way I know you never wanted your future husband to, then I have got only one thing to say." He continued.

"Not everyone is the same. And you don't realize this thing now, but you'll yourself love it if you will have a partner who is exact opposite of you. Trust me with it Neysa."

And with that he had exited her bedroom leaving her in a pool of thoughts who was just having a hard time to process what he'd just said.

//////////

Cute+Boring= Imperfect Match.

Thinking this in her mind, she kept crying. Loud sniffles were heard as she watched the houses passing by as the tyres of the car rolled on the roads in a fast speed.

His sister, Riya was in the passenger seat with her husband driving, leaving Neysa and Rayaan at the back.

They were made to be seated in the middle, side by side, leaving no such gap but by now she'd shifted to the very end leaving a normal as ever Rayaan alone.

"Neysa, don't cry. You're basically going to your second home. We all will be there. What's there to be sad about?" Riya cajoled her who sniffled again.

Why shouldn't she cry?

She was married!

Married to her nemesis Rayaan Kapoor!

She didn't realize when his words had made her say 'yes' in a flow and how a month had passed since that with them now being married. All of this happened in a blur.

She felt as if Rayaan was too unresponsive to all the happenings.

He forced a smile whenever needed otherwise he was expressionless the whole time while she would be pouting.

A hand came in her periphery and she noticed it was him who had forwarded his hand with a handkerchief in it.

Taking it without resistance, she wiped her eyes, the tears wetting the cloth and then proceeded to wipe her nose, now handing him back the piece of cloth who took it without minding what she just did.

And with that she again went blank, in her blur mode where she didn't realize what was happening around her.

She was now sitting in a new bedroom to her. A bedroom she had been inside countless of times but never imagined to have it as her own someday.

The dark walls, coffee and beige colored themed with king sized bed, flat TV screen ahead and a door that lead to adjoined bathroom and walk in closet, everything felt as if it's weight was dropped on her shoulders without her knowledge.

She had just come out of the shower, her hair still damp, dressed in a two piece silk night wear that barely showed anything except her long legs.

Hearing the door creak open to the bedroom, her head snapped towards the source and found him entering, dressed in comfortable clothes.

The heavy attires of the wedding were long lost forgotten.

She had thought that he would atleast show a different reaction seeing her on his bed for the very first time but he had no such expression. He looked normal.

He was walking towards her expectantly when a loud sneeze was heard all of a sudden making him halt in his steps and then a frown appeared.

In a flash he was sitting in front of her, his palm pressed on her forehead to check the temperature and he sighed in relief finding it normal.

"Why don't you understand not to switch on the AC when your hair are damp? Now do I have to make you remember everytime how sensitive you are to cold?" He lightly scolded as he switched off the AC with the remote.

Neysa looked at him bewildered. Should she take him as caring or was he being annoying like always?

"I couldn't find the dryer." She reasoned with an irritated look.

"C'mere." He mumbled slightly pulling her towards him.

"W-Wait. W-What are you d-doing?" She stammered as he kept pulling her by her waist till a point their frames were this close that there was no space left in between.

"Why? Is it a crime to hold my wife?" He asked, a serious look plastered on his face.

"Yes. I- I mean no. But I am your wife." She stated with a known look.

"Thank you for reminding me Neysa. I'll forever be grateful to you." He sarcastically replied.

"I was planning to watch a movie." She voiced out all of a sudden.

If one thing she had planned for her wedding night was that she would love to watch a rom-com with her cute husband and how that would eventually lead them to kiss and then what not.

And right now, she even had a movie in her mind.

"Movie? Have you seen the time? And no way in hell I am letting you watch a movie in this condition." He opposed, a slight edge in his tone.

Oh, why did she even expect in the first place? He's not even cute! So why would they watch a movie?

And another sneeze.

It was all it took for his patience to reach it's limit and he just lifted her in his arms like a sac who shrieked at his sudden action but clunged to him like a koala. Who knew if he would make her fall?

Leading her to the walk in closet, he made her sit on the vanity and took out a dryer from one of the many drawers out here.

And with that he himself began drying her hair.

Not to lie, she felt warm at this gesture. There was a comforting feeling in her heart and mind when he was busy drying. She felt more relaxed as she unknowingly placed her head on his chest, snuggling deeper as her eyes felt heavy with his thick fingers doing magic on her.

"Don't sleep." He called out who looked as if she would doze off any moment.

"Mhm." She just let out a guttural sound, falling completely in his arms, on his full support.

Sighing a little, he soon got over his task of drying her hair and lifted her in his arms again only to lead them back to the bed. As soon as he dropped her, though careful as ever, she instantly pulled him towards herself, lost in her sleep and he had no other option to lay down beside her, holding her in his arms securely.

But did it feel good?

Oh, it felt absolutely amazing.

Her in his arms.

//////////

"P-Please- c-areful-" She hesitantly reminded him when he was about to apply the pressure.

He pressed a chaste kiss on her forehead and then continued doing his task.

"Why don't you listen to me? Didn't I tell you to be careful?" He scolded her as he cleaned her blooded wound ever so softly.

It was a month after their wedding and these two were trying their best to get along with each other and work accordingly. Sure it wasn't like they were successful everytime because they had their own differences, but it was Rayaan every single time who put an end to the matter in best of ways that also used to make Neysa realize many things. More specifically how he was right and what amazing viewpoint he had over things.

"I just wanted to cook." She sniffled adorably.

They were as usual in their room. Most of the times, they stayed inside for the privacy since they had a joint family. And the bigger reason was that Rayaan was more of an introvert and that's why Neysa loved blabbering to him because only she would get the chance to speak, not him.

It was 9 in the night with her already in her nightwear while he was in his formal wear as since the time he'd returned from his office, Neysa hadn't given him a single chance to be alone. She didn't even realize this yet how she would be hanging on his arm everytime he was around.

Oh, how many blessings and compliments the couple had received past this month. Everyone said the same thing, 'Such a perfect couple'

And that would make Rayaan nod his head as if he agreed to this while Neysa would be a blushing mess.

"It's paining Rayaan." She hiccuped looking at him teary eyed.

And it pained him to see her in this state.

Lifting her in his arms by holding her petite waist, he made her sit on his lap who was crying continuously, her face buried in his chest as the tears wetted his shirt.

She had his shirt fisted in her small hands, her body solely on his support and wholly on him crying her guts out because well, she was just too sensitive towards such things. And Rayaan knowing that well left no chance to be her support system.

He loved his little wife.

Don't be shocked. He actually did.

Not seeing any woman in that way in his whole life, the moment he got to know that the two families wanted to pair him and Neysa together, he started looking at her with a different perspective.

The only reason he used to scold her was for her benefit. And now knowing the fact that she was only his, someone who stayed with him 24*7, his heart had become solely hers. And he didn't even realize when that happened.

Neysa was just too innocent and always lost in her dreamland to notice the look he passes to her. Or the times in the night when he would be under the covers about to sleep and how she would get inside only to hug him tightly and then sleep on his chest. This had become their routine and she was just plainly oblivious, believing that Rayaan would one day turn her bestfriend who she wanted as her husband.

But who would tell her that he was even better than a bestfriend! He cared about her with no bounds and man, he adored her. He was just completely smitten.

"Okay now tell me one thing. What would you prefer? Bali or Maldives?" He asked trying to divert her attention.

"Ummm- both." She replied quickly.

"Well I need one for now." He reminded.

"Maldives." She muttered though with a faint smile.

"But for what?" Neysa continued.

"For our trip. Honeymoon trip." He answered.

"H-Honeymoon?" She croaked looking at him with an innocent gaze.

Oh how badly he wanted to take her plump lips in a heart warming kiss, to feel it's softness and how they would perfectly mould with his own.

"Yes. It's pending isn't it?"

"B-But H-Honeymoon... what are we going to do there?" She asked with a distant look.

"Neysa baby, I didn't take you this innocent atleast." He chuckled at her flushed form.

"But you will only scold me there. I won't be able to enjoy either!" She huffed passing him a cute glare.

"And for whose benefit is it?" He raised his eyebrows.

"Mine. I hate you." She grumbled, snuggling back to his chest making him laugh out loud.

"Oh, but I don't." He winked and she was just too happy at the thought of trip to notice the meaning behind his words.

//////////

A wavered breath came out of her mouth as she felt his rough hands tracing random patterns on her naked thigh. In reaction to his bold action, her body pressed against his hard one on it's own making her still for a moment.

She thought he was...sleeping?

Finally gaining some courage, she turned her face towards him as he was laying behind her and her eyes landed on him who already had his intense gaze settled on her.

She could still feel butterflies in the pit of her stomach.

It was the second day of their honeymoon to Maldives. Yes, they'd actually went which Neysa hadn't expected. And it would be the correct thing to say that Rayaan was so patient and loving the whole time that she couldn't believe he was the same man who she thought to be super uptight and boring.

She realized that her old opinion about him was on the basis of few incidents that happened in the spur of momemt and earlier they weren't even this close. But now that she knew so much about him being his wife, she looked at him with a different perspective and he too was a different man to her than before. He was her man.

"R-Rayaan-" She hesitated.

"Hmm?" His husky sleepy voice reached her ears as he turned her frame completely towards him.

"When did you turn this sweet?" She mumbled in his neck.

Hugging him was the best thing for her. The warmth she gets in his arms is nothing compared to anyone else. Oh she loves how he holds her. The protective way. The way he cradles her frame so delicately and how she has lately started to act so clingy towards him because she absolutely loved his attention towards her.

"I had always been sweet. It's just that you never tried to look at me this way." He honestly answered as he ran a hand through the strands of her hair.

Placing a kiss on her head, he murmured sweet nothings to her, looking at hi wife adoringly who was gazing at him with an innocent gaze.

"Do you still feel any pain?" He questioned softly.

"Mhm." She nodded in his neck.

"I'll prepare the bathtub for us. And also I'll give you an advil. You'll be fine." He murmured.

And with that he picked her in his arms, getting up from the bed and led both of them towards the en suite bathroom with her shrieking and giggling the whole way at the fact of their nakedness.

There was absolutely no regret in her for marrying Rayaan.

She was falling in love.

Falling in love with her nemesis. A person who is too uptight or boring. A person who she thought wasn't her ideal husband.

Ideal husband?

He was actually a lot better than that.

He was better than her dream man.

She didn't need a bestfriend in her husband.

She needed a caring and loving one. Someone who would treat her like the queen she is.

Because,

Cute+Boring= Perfect Match

This was the story of Neysa and Rayaan♡

THE END
