Happy One Year Anniversary to Isabella!!!
Isabella's POV
Chase was all smiles and kisses as though we didn't have an argument just before I came back to Nigeria. It all still seemed like a dream to me. Chase was here. My dad was here. And why won't Joshua stop calling me?
"If the call is not urgent, please turn your phone off" my dad commanded before earning a death glare from me. He had no right to tell me what to do. He wasn't my father.
"Yes, Richard" I said, intentionally calling my dad by his name.
"Isabella!" my mom gave me a warning look from across the room.
"Can we get back to what we were discussing?" Tayo asked.
"Who's Joshua?" Chase whispered to me while taking a strong grip of my hand. He must've seen the caller ID on my phone.
"Nobody important" I replied
"So, Chase," Richard cleared his throat, "you said you're seeking my daughter's hand in marriage?"
"Pardon me?" I heard myself say.
"Yes sir" Chase said clearly ignoring me entirely.
Richard was about to say something when Katerina walked into the living room and stopped in her tracks immediately, clearly surprised.
Trina greeted everybody after she'd unfrozen and immediately going upstairs without sparing me a glance. Could she possibly be angry just because I walked out on our mother?
I brought my attention back only to hear Richard saying "...Of course you know there are some marriage rites you'd have to perform-"
"Hold on, what are you saying?" I cut him off, "you didn't even ask me if I wanted to get married"
"You're already engaged to him aren't you?" Richard asked
"And who said I wanted to get married now? What at exactly are you doing here Richard?!" I snapped, "So you hear I'm engaged and you suddenly appear out of nowhere to collect my bride price right?"
"Isab-"
"Let me finish mom," I put up my hand to shush her, "This man..." I pointed at my dad, "is not and has never been my father,"
"Isabella!" Richard shouted before standing up, "I will not stand here and watch you insult me because whether you like it or not, I am still your father!"
"Well, news flash Richard, I'm not related to you. You're not my biological father so you can go to hell!" I spat out with so much hatred and anger.
"Bella, take it easy... " Tayo said
"Don't tell me to take anything easy!" I hollered, "This man is not my father. A father does not abandon his child even if he is divorced!"
Tears were already flowing for the second time that day, "Where was he when I was raped? Where was he when I left Lagos? Where was he when I was nearly killed in prison? Where was he when I was fighting for my life in the hospital? Where was he when I had to face the man that raped me in court? Where was he when I found out he wasn't my biological father? Where was he when I decided to go to the US because I was nearly going crazy?" he wiped the tears, "This man is not my father and he certainly won't be the one to walk me down the aisle, ever!"
I ran up to my room and slammed the door behind me. I tried not to cry but I was failing. I wiped the tears from my cheeks because Richard didn't deserve my tears.
Someone knocked on my door but I ignored it forgetting my door was open.
Tayo walked in and sat at the edge of my bed while I looked out the window. "Sorry about what happened downstairs"
"What are you doing here?" I asked not caring if I was being rude.
"I wanted to talk to you, remember?" he was still gentle with his words ignoring my sour attitude.
"About what?"
"It's about Trina," he paused "I'm going to propose to her."
I was perplexed and speechless, "I don't know what to say,"
"I just wanted to let you know first" he said searching my face for a reaction.
"I'm happy for you," I smiled, "but let the proposal be something grand unlike the time you asked her to be your girlfriend" we both laughed at that remembering that faithful day.
"Anyway, I'll be on my way now" he said after a comfortable silence before getting up to leave.
"I'll see you later" He nodded and left.
Daniel's POV
I walked majestically to my office smiling like I'd just won a lottery. I was so happy and in love. I took a seat at my large desk and scanned the pile of folders and papers waiting to be signed until I saw something I thought I'd never see again. The red envelope.
I didn't hesitate to open the envelope and pull out the piece of paper inside. My heart was pounding in a rhythm. I was even sweating.
I unfolded the piece of paper and read the note.
I'm still here bastard and I'm not done with you yet.
July 10th, 2010.
I picked up the telephone and asked my secretary to come to my office. It was only then I realized my hands were shaking.
"Faith, who left this note on my desk?" I asked as soon as she walked in.
She furrowed her brows and replied, "I don't know sir"
"Oh so I'm guessing the envelope flew in through the window right" I asked sarcastically.
"Sir, I don't know" she repeated and I got fed up and decided to go and seek answers myself.
"I'm leaving. Cancel all my meetings." I walked past my confused secretary and left the office before she could utter another word.
Sandra's POV
I turned off the gas cooker ready to dish out two plates of hot noodles when Trump ran into the kitchen with a red envelope in his hands. I froze.
It can't be what I think it is.
"Mummy, someone left this at the door" I took the envelope from his hands and opened it immediately. I pulled out the white paper and read.
I'm still here bitch and I'm coming for you.
Isabella's POV
I'd spent hours in my room before everywhere went dark all of a sudden. According to my mom, we had electricity issues and a heavy storm was coming.
I was lighting a candle on my bedside table when Tayo barged in as though the house was on fire. I jumped slightly out of fright.
"Tayo!" I exclaimed, "What are you doing here? I thought you left hours ago"
"I went home only to find this..." he was holding a red envelope, "...on my doorstep"
"Is that..." I couldn't complete my sentence. I was afraid my thoughts would become true.
"It's exactly what you think" said Tayo before Daniel barged in breathing like a horse.
"Seriously guys, what if I was naked in here!" I retorted
"Have you seen this?" Daniel raised the same red envelope in the air.
I was about to say something when some knocked on the door. Without waiting for my response, Sandra walked in with the same envelope in her hand.
"You too?" We all asked in unison.
"What sort of question is that? We were all in this together" said Sandra.
"This is seriously not happening again" I voiced out my thoughts.
I was fast enough to see a red envelope slid in under my door and I rushed to the door and swung it open but there was nobody.
The wind blew off the candle as I slammed the door. I took the lighter and lit the candle again.
"I'm still here bitch, and I'm coming for you. July 10th, 2010" Sandra read out loud from my letter.
"Wait, this person just came into your house?" Tayo asked
"I don't know" I replied.
"What happened that night wasn't our fault and I'm tired of being blackmailed for it" Daniel complained
"I thought the blackmail ended when we gave him the money" Sandra began pacing back and forth.
"And that money was my inheritance" Tayo mumbled probably recalling how he had to steal ten million naira from his grandfather.
"That girl brought that on herself" Sandra said
"Yeah," Daniel agreed "Isabella why aren't you saying anything?" All heads turned to me.
"You want to know what I think?" I asked "July 10th, 2010, we killed Tiffany Stevens. It was our fault"
What?! What do you think they're talking about? I hope you're enjoying the mystery. And I'd love to hear your theories.
