Chapter 6

Before Layton can add on, I heard knocking on the door.

I immediately rushed over to answer the door.. kind of disappointed when it was Mrs. Walters, one of our older neighbors who in her 60s.

"Hi Audrey, I'm here for the wedding dress I ordered for my daughter's wedding last week. Is it ready now?" The older woman asked kindly.

I nodded. "Yeah, I'll be back with it." I promised as I ran upstairs to find it. I scrambled around as I looked for the dress.. practically tossing all of the clothes from all of the drawers everywhere. I couldn't find it anywhere.

"I'm sorry ma'am, but I can't seem to find the dress. But would you like to stay and eat breakfast while I go look for it?" I said to Mrs. Walters as I came back downstairs. She nodded, giving a curt nod to Blake and Layton as she sat across from them.

"It's nice to see you back young man! It's such a relief to see our country being served by strong young men like you."

"Daddy's a hero!" Blake smiled as he hugged Layton, taking his navy hat and putting it on himself.

Mrs. Walters smiled warmly at Blake.
"Your child is growing up to be such a sweet little boy."

Layton returned the smile. "He sure is." He said as he ruffled Blake's hair.

I started pouring some coffee for myself as soon as I came back stairs when I finally found the dress.

"So, how is Lucy doing?" Layton asked, as he sliced a piece of pancake with his butter knife and ate it.

"She's doing wonderful! My girl's really excited to marry Larry. But I don't think she's old enough to be getting married. People always tell me, 'She's a woman, Carol. She's no girl.' But the thing is, once you have children they'll always be a kid in your eyes... In their 20s, 30s, heck, even 40s!"

I just listened as I stirred my coffee.

"Guess what Layton? She's even thinking about having a damn kid! Can you believe it? A kid having another kid?"

Layton laughed out loud.

"She's 27 years old Carol, just an year older than me. She's not really a kid anymore."

Carol chuckled gently and rolled her eyes a bit."They all say the same thing.. but to me she's still the same fetus I gave birth to 27 years ago."

"So, what are they planning to name the baby?"

"Blake?" Blake inquired.

Mrs. Walters let out a loud laugh that startled me. "No dear. That's a very sweet name though. If it's a girl, she's thinking of naming her Lily. If it's a boy, she's thinking of naming him Isaac."

I ended up spilling the coffee all over the table. Mrs. Walters gasped and Blake giggled.

"I'm sorry dear, was it something I said?" She asked concerned.

"Not at all." Layton responded for me.

"She's just.. distracted. She knows an Isaac." He winked.

"Oh do you, Audrey?" She flashed a teasing smile.

"Uh yeah." I played with my fingers. I probably would've punched Layton or something if it weren't for Blake being here.

"Yeah, it's just some friend I guess."

"Are you sure, sweetheart? You seemed to get all flustered at the mention of the name."

I chuckled weakly. "Yeah... So um do you want the dress?" I asked.

She nodded.

"Oh yeah right!"

She took the dress once I showed it to her.

"My goodness it's beautiful! You have some talent, young lady!"

"Thank you." I smiled.

She started walking out of the house, delaying a bit due to her excessive talking. I just waited as she left, holding the same forced smile until she was out of sight. I glared at Layton once she was gone.

"What?"

I rolled my eyes.

"I can't believe you would-" I was ready to have an argument with my brother but the door bell ring rang. I sighed a bit as I walked over and opened the door.

"Yes Mrs. Walters?" I asked impatiently, annoyed since I was in the middle of talking with Layton. Did she really have to knock right now?

I looked towards the door, expecting to see Ms Walters but almost jumped when I saw who it actually was.

"Isaac?! Oh, it's you! Sorry, I thought you were my neighbor." I crossed my arms, trying to ignore Layton's laughter in the background.

"Yeah.. Well I came to return the clothes you borrowed me." He handed me the clothes I let him borrow. I took it, as I did so I took notice of his new clothes.

He had a maroon red beanie on his head, I'm guessing he really liked that color since the sleeves of his shirt were the same color, while the shirt itself was white. His pants were baggy, they fitted on him pretty losely.. I'm surprised they haven't dropped down his knees yet.

I could see the judgment on Layton's face as he walked over to the door and looked at Isaac.

"You let him borrow my cl-" he stopped when I nudged him a bit and gave him a small glare which told him to shut up.

"Thanks." I smiled as I looked at Isaac.

"Yeah no problem.." He had started to walk away but I took his hand to stop him.

"You sure you're gonna be okay?" I asked, seriously worried for him.

He nodded. "Yeah.. Don't worry about me. You probably shouldn't." He said.

What did he mean by- He was gone before I can finish my thought.

I turned to Layton, who was giving me a look that I didn't really like.

"Oh stop it." I said and shoved him lightly. "You're lucky I'm just happy you're back." I smiled lightly.

"I'm happy you're back too daddy!" Blake beamed as we went back to the kitchen and kept eating.

"These are the best pancakes I've ever had!" Blake said in between chews.

Layton nodded in agreement.
"Your aunt makes some mean pancakes. Have you been using some special ingredient or something? They taste way better than the last time we made pancakes for Blake."

He licked off syrup that was smeared on his upper lips, he was really enjoying the pancakes and I admit, me too but I couldn't help but giggle at the fact he thought I made them.

He eyed me suspiciously as I stopped laughing, before opening my mouth to speak.

"Well..actually I-"

"She didn't make them, uncle did!" Blake finished my sentence.

"Uncle?" Layton asked, confused.

"He means Isaac." I corrected, feeling a little awkward as I did so. Layton gave Blake a funny look.

"Blake, why do you keep calling him your uncle?" I asked, seriously wondering..what was up with that.

"Becuse I like Isaac, can you marry him so he can be my uncle?" Blake asked, causing my to choke on a piece of my pancake. Layton snorted, before patting my back as I coughed. I knew Blake was just a child who knew nothing about what marriage actually was but.... as if. The day that happens I'll get all of my hearing back.

"Audrey.. Why are you red?" Layton laughed. Despite being married, and a dad, he was just as annoying as any other older brother when it came to teasing. "You're almost as red as the clothes he wore!"

"Shut up." I swatted his arm, not amused by him.

"And about the marriage thing," I started to say, as I looked a Blake.

"That's not going to happen Blake. And please.. stop calling him uncle, he's not your uncle. That was probably the last of him we'll see."

Blake gave me those puppy eyes he always gave me when he wanted something, I hated when he did that because as soon as he gave me that look, he almost always got what he wanted, and he knew it. That's why he did it.

"I'm going to go see Martha and your grandpa, wanna come with me Blake?" Layton asked, piling up all of our plates once we were done eating before walking to the kitchen.

"I wanna stay with my aunt, can I?" Blake begged, as he followed after Layton. Layton smiled and nodded before ruffling his hair.

"Of course, see you guys later then have fun." Layton said as he walked out of the house.

"Bye daddy!!" Blake and I waved through the window as Layton got in his car. He smiled and waved back before driving away.

"Do you still want to see Isaac?" I asked Blake when Layton was gone.

He shook his head eagerly. "Let's go and see him!"

I shook my head. "Sorry bud, I don't know where he is...

"I'll find him."

I shook my head and started walking to the living room.

"How about we play hide and seek instead? I'll be it. I'll count to 20 and you go hide. You ARE the best hider anyway Blakey-" I stopped talking when I realized Blake was gone.

Oh boy.

"Blake!" I called out as I look for him. I realized the door was open. Crap. He left the house.
