Chapter Four Part I
Sophia's P.O.V
I felt so hopeless this was not happening to us. After thinking for a longtime I came up with a conclusion
"Why don't we buy a charger and those portable phone batteries." I told Ray. "Then we try to find the nearest plug to we can plug it in and wait till it charges. We found a best buy store and here able to buy the Chargers and battery, but unfortunately after walking in circles for what seemed like eternity We couldn't find a single plug that we could use in this big store. It is so sad we got desperate that we ask people around us where the nearest library is, well I tried people didn't seem that willing to tell line I guess no one can trust a person who covers their face. So Ray asked and they just answered it was nowhere near the mall with was sad.
"Let's call Abi or 'Amu." Ray asked
"Ray really 1+1 much? We don't have a working phone"
"What I meant is let's use a pay phone and call them"
"Well okay but do you have your dad's number memorized because I know I don't." That why my phone is everything
"Well... No. But seriously it was just a suggestion. No need to attack me."
"It's cool, but it's almost Magrib. Let's try to find a place to." I stopped midsentence because I saw a Muslim sister with a stroller walking down the streets in the direction we are.
"Assalam o Alykum sister." I greeted her
"Wa alykum o salaam."
"We need help see we are new to this neighborhood and it's almost Magrib time and we need to find a place to pray."
"There is a Islamic center nearby I was just headed there to pick up my son." I could drop you two off InshaAllah."
"Jazakhallahu Khayr sister" I said gratefully as we followed her to a near by building. The building seemed lively with kids who just got off madrasa/dugsi getting ready for Salah as well as elderly and young adults. It seemed beautiful because it's been a while since I saw a place of worship this filled.
Rayaan fixed up her hijab and we found a place to plug in our phones. I always thought Jama'aa is beautiful as long as someone doesn't try to stomp your feet when you try and distracts you or squeeze you so much you don't have room for sujood. But Ya Rabb you got to do what you got to do after prayer we looked up the bus route and found it so we decided to leave after writing it down on paper, but there was a problem Ray couldn't find her shoes it's like they disappeared from the shoe shelf from the place she placed it. We tried looking around other sides of the shelf but it was nowhere in sight.
"Sisters, is there a problem?" asked the women that helped us before in finding the place
"We can't find my shoes."
"Ya Rabb they did it again didn't they?"
"They? Who?" we asked the same time
"The shoe snatchers. If they see a nice pair of shoes they take it rarely happens but when it does... it does."
"So now, what are we going to do Sophie? We can't ride the bus if I am shoe less."
"You guys are riding the bus home? This late at night?" she had asked and we just nodded "this isn't a safe neighborhood to be riding the bus after sun down anything can happen. Where you live I'll ask some to give you a ride there." she demanded and we told her. "That's where my cousin Michael and his friend Ethan live. I could ask them to give you a lift."
"That's not necessary." Ray started to say but was cut off
"You ladies aren't riding the bus and that's final. I can't have your death or harm on my conscious and I can't have you walking bare foot." She took out her phone and dialed what I think was her cousin. I was okay with it thinking though if Ray and I met a neighbor with those names until I saw who was driving us it was our next door neighbors. It was the guys from this morning I was seriously debating on just telling her I'll call our butler
"Assalamu Alykum sisters, we meet again." The bearded guy says looking at Ray and I.
"wa alykum Assalam brother Ethan you've met them?" asked the women
"Yeah cuz they are the new members of our block." The long haired guy replied
"Wow no need for introductions, Ya Allah I forgot to ask you your names."
"My name is Rayaan and this is my sister Sophia."
"Mine is Zaynab and my daughter Ayaan and my son Saleem. Wow Ayaan Rayaan. Rayaan Ayaan quite similair just add the R."
"Zaynab you're going off track again." The guy who I assume is Michael reminded her.
"Well off you guys go, salaam alykum. It was a blessing to meet you two. I hope to see you too around." Zaynab said as she pushed the stroller to her car and her son following her
"Allah Hafiz."
"So let's got." Michael said leading the way. Ray and I got into the back seat as Ethan drove and Michael was in the front. Passenger seat he turn around to us after a while of silent driving
"I have to ask who is older between the two of you."
"I am." I stated proudly
"Sophie only by a couple of minutes."
"It's a whole day in the calendar."
"11:57 p.m. and 12:03 a.m. isn't a big difference." she complained and I just made a satisfied safe under my niqab.
"So fraternal twins wow Masha Allah." he concluded turn upright again. Ray and I just stared at each other and agreed not to correct them.
"How would you know if they are fraternal?" Ethan asked
"Eye color."
"They could just have that difference."
"Well...good point." he sighed and no one talked after that until we reached home when we did we noticed our apartment door was open. I stared at it horror
"Ray did you lock the door when we left?" I asked her still looking at door
"I don't think I did but I did close the door for sure."
"What's wrong?" Ethan asked worriedly looking at us then turn to where we were looking at
"I think someone broke into our place"
"Maybe it's your parents or siblings" he suggested
"Impossible because we don't have any siblings and our parents are out of town."
"Wait here." he said as left going to the apartment next door and coming back with a baseball bat and Michael right behind him
"Call the cops." Michael ordered seriously with a stern face as he went in after Ethan Ray took out. Ray took out her phone and dialed 911
"I think someone broke in to my....apartment.....waiting outside... my neighbors went in to check it out.... My cousin... Rayaan Malik... Sophia Malik...18...both of us...okay...okay I'll stay on the phone..." she said stuttering just as she said that. Just then some men wearing all black ran right passed us knocking me on my butt and flipping my niqab over I quickly fixed it. And got back in to my feet only to be knocked down by another man. I rolled over to the other side just in time before before I got squashed like an ant. After hearing Ray shrieked I looked over to check if she was okay. She was also on the floor with her phone near the door looking broken. I could see pieces of her screen near me.
"Ray are you okay?" I asked franctically getting up and looking at her to make sure she was okay. she just groaned as she got up.
" Are you guys okay?" Ethan asked coming back out.
"Yes." We answered at the same time.
"I think you should look at what happened to your place and tell your parents what happened.
"what?what happned?" Ray asked
"I don't know man but I think you guys should take a look." Michael stated rubbing the back of his head. Ray and I just looked at each other and walk to our apartment slowly as the floor creaked.
Inside we noticed that our place looks like it was over turned and one thing that caught my eye was my mac was missing I left it on the cofee table with my phone charger, speakers and Rays Mac but it was all missing. Looking around more I notice the TV was missing as well only God knows how they manage that. I went to my room to check if anything else was missing while Ray went to the kitchen.
"NO!!NO!! They took my baby." I heard Ray Scream in pure agony from my room. I came running to where she was she was sitting on the kitchen floor and Ethan hover over her.
"Ray what did they take?" I asked
"the...They...To...ook...my ...percious...co....coff...f..coffee maker and all my cofee. in the kitchen... Sophie how will I survive without my coffee. Sophie.!! Sophie" she wailed. Ethan looked at her with a confused frown then looked at me as if asking me if she was mentally okay. I just nodded a bit amused at her outburst and crunched down to were Ray was sitting. Only Rayaan would cry over stolen coffee other than everything else stolen from the room.
"Rayaan I'll buy you new ones don't worry."
"Promise."
"Wallah" I swore which brought a smile to her face.
"When mom finds out about this she is going to seriously kill us."
"Yes she is and it all your fault." I accused still grateful they didn't steal any of my books.
